  1. I did some more digging around. Its definitely not Pentosin....I dipped some out of the reservoir and compared it to the stuff that's leaking - nowhere near green enough or fluorescent enough!! I'm told the aircon system would have the fluoro green dye in it to aid leak-finding, so, bearing in mind I've got the orange/red coolant, I'm going for refrigerant! I'm going to have to take it into the workshop though, as I've no facilities for doing it myself, unfortunately.

  2. Are you sure it is not coolant - from the heater core?

    Hi Loren.

    Just spoken to my wife....she's out in the car (only spotted the liquid on the floor after she'd gone!). She's looked under the car and says the leak's coming from a pipe that runs more or less the full length of the car, at a point roughly under the driver's (r/hand drive) door handle, and seems to be where a bracket's supporting the pipe. So.....I'm thinking coolant pipe, possibly worn through by the bracket? I was sure the coolant was red....presumably not!

    The wife's Cabrio is currently running 285 30 18 rears. Just been offered a pair of 35 profiles at a bargain price. Other than making the speedo under-read slightly, anyone know of any problems using these?

    Speedo indicates 60mph, you will actually be doing 62.7 mph

    Stock revs per mile = 815

    285/35 reavs = 780

    Stock Sidewall = 3.4inches

    285/35 sidewall = 3.9inches

    Circumfrence stock = 77.7 inches

    Circumference 285/35 = 81.2 inches

    Well you might notice less handling higher sidewall and probably less footprint, and better make sure they 35's dont rub anywhere.

    Porsche tunes it's suspensions to the use specific tire sizes. Personally i would not do it!

    Someone over on 911uk directed me to a specialist who can re-bush the whole front for us - in years gone by, I would definitely have had a go myself, but these days....well, I'd rather pay someone! The front of the car feels quite vague and 'floaty' at the moment, so I'm hoping re-bushing will sharpen it up a lot, although I'm a bit wary about mention of a harder ride....its very hard now!!

    The wife's Cabrio has started making the well-documented groaning noise from the front suspension. Its booked in in a couple of weeks for new discs/pads, so we'll get this sorted at the same time. I was always under the impression that this would mean new control arms as bushes weren't available seperately. Then I found this place http://www.powerflex.co.uk/products/911+(996)-525/1.html.

    Has anyone re-bushed the front, rather than purchased complete new parts?

  6. Well, I had a bit of luck! :) First, I did the reset on the upper/lower window stop positions, then I had a look at the seal itself, in the area of the top of the windscreen pillar.

    I didn't do anything very precise, just fiddled about with the 'floppy' bit of the seal at the top, to see if it could perhaps have become mis-positioned. The good old English weather obligingly gave me the ideal opportunity to test my 'adjustments' that very afternoon, and guess what?! The leak's gone! :D

    Not sure if it was the reset or the seal that sorted it, but its sorted! :thumbup:

    I was hoping for some feedback to convince me I was about to spend around £150 on the correct part!!! Ah well, its only money, and I can't see what else could be at fault really. I'll order the part tomorrow and let you know how I get on. :rolleyes:

    Have you checked to make sure that it is not just an adjustment to the door glass that is needed?

    Have you compared the height and forward to aft position of the door glass on the driver's side with that of the passenger's side door glass to see if there is any measurable difference?

    If there is a difference, you may be able to adjust the door glass that is leaking to match the positioning of the "good" side.

    You can actually adjust the inboard/outboard position of the top edge of the door glass without removing the door panel, as well as raise or lower the final closed position of either (or both) the forward top corner or rearmost top corner of the window.

    If you think this might be a solution to your problem, post here and I will look for a write-up I had done on a similar issue a while back.

  8. Evening all.

    Whilst parked up in the wife's Cabrio the other week, in pouring rain (top up!! :rolleyes: ) I noticed a small amount of water coming in from the top of the passenger door glass.....it was dripping off the windscreen pillar. As we intended to put the hardtop on fairly soon, I didn't do anything remedial in case it was just a soft-top issue. Anyway, the hardtop's on now. Today, parked in heavy rain, the drip's there again! :angry:

    I'm therefore assuming that its nothing to do with the seal on the softtop, but that its the door aperture seal, which runs up to the top of the windscreen pillar. I can't see any splits in the seal. I've found the part number for it, but am wondering if anyone's fitted a new one themselves. Anything awkward about it at all? Can anyone direct me to the workshop manual instructions for carrying out the job?

  9. Good question....and one I've been meaning to ask myself! Ours is blue, and despite cleaning it with 'highly recommended' products, it still has marks that I'm convinced can only be eradicated by a re-colour to black. I'm pretty sure though that fold-marks and creases will still be visible - I see plenty of cars with black tops that have these...even quite young ones.

    I've just replaced the header tank on the wife's Cabrio. What a PIG of a job....but a great feeling of satisfaction now its done! Thanks by the way to the people who put the info on here....really helpful.

    Quick question regarding the bleeder valve. I've been out a couple of times with it open....the engine's still hot....the valve won't close. Am I right in thinking that's because the coolant is still stinking hot? Will it close once everything's cool....or is there something wrong with it?!

  11. Afternoon all.

    The rear window seals ('gaskets' in Porsche-speak) on the wife's Cabrio are looking tatty (the ones that are fixed to the windows' rear edges), so I ordered a new pair - very reasonably priced for Porsche bits at about £9 a side....in fact, the recommended Loctite 480 adhesive is twice the price! :o

    The instructions in the manual seem easy enough to follow, but do say to refer to 'service no. 61 71 19', which looks like a sheet number. Problem is, I can't find it anywhere in the manual I downloaded! Has anyone got this? I can't see that its going to be anything major....but would like to put my mind at rest!

    Has anyone done this job themselves, by the way?
