  1. CAUTION! Make sure you get the correct "Carrera" emblem. Starting in model year 2002, Porsche started installing the Carrera emblem lower down (close to the bumper), where the engine lid is curved upward. As a consequence, the top of the "C" in Carrera is concave. If you get that emblem, the top of the C will stick up from the engine lid when you place it in your original location. There's a thread on this from 2005 when I discovered this myself (after torturing myself).

    You need to get part no. 996-559-237-07-4PU (for silver). If the parts guy says that has been superceded by part no. 996-559-237-10-4PU, go to another parts guy. If you really can't find the 07-04PU part, then you'll need to stick the new one on where the 2002+ models have it.

    Oggie, I got part 996-559-237-10-4PU. It's "flat". But the trunk of my 2004 C4S is not flat even when the "Carrera" is installed in the middle and not towards the bottom as you say. Thus, when I stuck it on, the top of the C won't stick down since it's not "curved".

    Your post above is a little confusing. Are you saying that 996-559-237-10-4PU is curved? Or is 996-559-237-07-4PU curved?

  2. Wow... that was fast. I previously searched and saw the thread you refer to above. But it's for a 997. I'm looking for the same instructions (if they exist) for the 996 C4S. Thanks!

    And for those interested, the correct part numbers for the "Carrera 4S" emblem are:

    Carrera = 996-559-237-10-4PU-M100

    4 = 996-559-241-01-4PU

    S with the "cutout" = 996-559-243-00-D04-M100

  3. On a long drive from NJ back to Boston, my 2006 Boxster S, without warning, went into "limp mode". The car only has 13k miles on it.

    The Check Engine Light (CEL) went on and the car refused to accelerate despite me stepping on the gas. I ended up running along the breakdown lane and took the first exit. The car ran slllowwwwllllyyy...

    I parked the car and checked the gas cap. It looked fine to me, but I turned it to make "one click". After waiting a while pondering what to do with my pregnant wife, I tried to start the car and it fired up. It ran normally, but the CEL is still on. We were able to drive back to Boston with no other issues. The CEL stayed on.

    I plugged in a "Carchip" and turned the CEL off via the OBD2 hoping that I could take some data points in the event that the CEL would come back on. But it didn't. The car runs as STRONG as always. There are no oil drops of any kind in my garage and the oil level is perfect (not burning or leaking oil).

    So the question is, could it be "bad gas" in NJ? Or could it be just that maybe the gas cap needed "one more click" to be tightened?

  4. I did mine using becker telephone power.

    No offense meant... But your V1 location is at a very non-optimal spot. I've had Mike V. in my car myself (took him to the airport from a BMW CCA event) and he stated that the V1's best position is as high as possible on the windshield (with windshields that don't have that "film" that blocks the signal). He explained that the way I had it mounted (i.e. - I had mounted it like yours is now), the unit is pointing DOWNWARD. Signals would have to bounce off of the hood/highway before it would reach the V1. He basically states that you want the V1 mounted parallel to the ground and as high as possible.

    After he corrected my installation, I asked him about making a front/rear "bumper" installation. He again stated that they have found it to limit the range by being so close to the ground. Thus, they did not.

    In the exterior photo shown in a red circle is where he suggested I install it. The wire is tucked down the pillar on the driver's side. The "concealed display" unit is sitting in front of the gauges - again circled in red.
