maybe you should take your old tires out on the track day before replacing them? sometimes having a tire with a lower amount of grip is better/safer/cheaper for beginners

Cleaning the IAC valve is very very very easy. Definite DIY and helped my (now deceased) engine's idle immensely.

i'm hoping this wil fix my engine woes, can anyone show me a picture of the IAC valve so i can know what i'm looking for?

I looked at your profile.

A MY99 C2 is not egas so you have an idle control valve.

Chances are this needs cleaning or the solenoid is bad and it needs replacing.

Either way you should remove it clean it (and the throttle body while you are there).

This process has been documented here many times so please do a search if you need details

thanks for the tips loren, i found how-tos of the throttle body cleaning but i cant seem to locate insturctions on how to get to the idle control valve. can anyone help me out?

whats up fellows, up until now my 996 has been nothing but reliable. but recently when i start it up in the morning the idle will go up and down until the engine warms up. after that all is fine. is this something that should be expected? ive got no cels or anything like that

notice how the tire looks darker (less road debris embedded on it) on the outside compared to the inside. that means it's not contacting the road nearly as much as the inside tire is. expect the inner portion to wear away first, which is normal with p-cars unfortunately

check your owners manual, there is a minimum engine RPM you're advised to upshift at. it's pretty high for first gear (close to 3000rpm i believe) because it's so long.

but beyond that it's really driver preference

hi folks, i bought a new lip front and rear for my 996 C2 aerokit, i'm going to have it painted soon, i was wondering since i've seen body colored center armest consoles out there, can i just have the paintshop paint mine too? or are the pre-painted ones made out of a different material?

The advice I was given by the P dealer service writer on my 04, was "drive the hell out of it while under CPO, and if the IMS fails take the motor under CPO and enjoy the car, if it doesn't go, trade the car one day before CPO expires".

well, hopefully there was no water in the key when u pressed it. if there was, you coudl have shorted the circuits and now need a new key.

coincidentally i washed my volvo key last weekend, i didnt press any buttons, just opened it up and let it air dry. been using my spare key since never got around to putting it back together.

My dealer will give out the history. I have checked out cars for friends that were thinking of buying. But then I have known the folks at my dealer for 9 years.

i have a 99 996, it only came with 1 key and that key only has 1 button on it.

i called dealers to get a spare key, they charged anywhere from$300-500 (is this reasonable?)

i've searched other threads and it looks like they all pertain to 2button remotes.

It is my understanding that 996 prior to 2002 were not recommended to have over 18 inch wheels.

here is my stance on the situation

i think 19inch wheels and tires were never listed as a recommended size by porsche, but porsche has never oficially said that they DONT recommend putting on 19" wheels/tires. think about it, 10+ years ago who was thinking about 19inch wheels? not that many people so porsche never R+D the possibilities.

this car is mainly a daily driver, i'm well aware of matching the overall rolling diameter if i decide to change sizes, actually the 305-25-19 on there now has a smaller rolling diameter effectively lowering my gearing. not good for cruising at all.

my original question is this. Looking at the width of my rear wheel, would a narrower tire fit?

Even worse news is that my aftermarket warranty company appears to be playing some games now that a $15K engine replacement is in the cards.

you should let us know what the companies name is even this early in the game since they're being apprehensive.

are you the original owner? do you follow porsches recommended minimum upshift RPMs when driving?

whats up fellas, i originally purchased this car second hand. i don't know how wide the rear wheels are, they are Work Brombachers, which come in a myriad of sizes.

the tire on it now is a 305-25-19

i need to change them out soon, i want to get a taller tire with more sidewall, also i was wondering if i could make it narrower too, a 295 or maybe even a 285 section tire?

by removing the airbag you are already technically disabling it; hence the airbag warning light lighting up.

WORK W-ITS Brombacher 19" 3 piece wheels. it's their Porsche specific model and it comes in a whole lot of different sizes so i dont know how wide this one is.

i've checked the options on my 911, but none of them mention a wheel or pedals

i know its a regular 4 spoke, but all other 4 spoke wheels i've seen arent so shaped around the rim. mine have thumbrests and perforated leather. is this an oem option?

once again i've searched all aftermarket pedals and none look like this. anybody have a clue what they coudl be?

the rears are a massive 305-25-19 and i was wondering how many more miles were left in them?

i was also wondering if i needed to replace them, can i go with a more narrow tire? tire rack doesnt even stock this size and i dont think i need a tire this wide. i'm not sure how wide the wheels are, can anyone tell me how i can find that out?
