  1. I just bought a 2000 boxster s and put a cold air intake on the car. Almost immediately after that the began to stutter big time. I took the car back to the shop and everything checked out o.k., so they did some diagnostic work. The check engine light had started coming on and threw out codes for misfireing in 3 different cylinders. The car recently had the 30k service done but the shop replaced the spark plugs and reset the computer. I didn't know the spark p[lugs had JUST been replaced right before I bought the car but the shop told me they were probably original. After the computer was reset one of the codes still was present, a misfire in cylinder 3. The shop told me they tested the coils next, compression test was performed and still the code was present. I lost confidence in this independent import shop when they told me they then tried to get online with a Porsche tech service and then called the local Porsche dealer, I guess I figured they were at their capacity with my car so I took it to another local Porsche dealer. The Porsche tech went over my car thoroughly checking many of the same things the import place did and now thinks it may be a valve spring that has broken. That doesn't sound that bad..... I thought! The dealer wants $5,000 to pull the enginge and rebuild it. Can someone please help me!!!!!!!!!!! Someone please tell me it may be an oxygen sensor or throttle body probelm! Chris in Columbs Ohio

what kind of intake did you put in your car?

  2. I need to remove and bend the metal rotor shield that is directly behind the rotor. When I turn the vehicle hard left or right the shield is rubbing the rotor. It cannot be bent enough without removing it. Can anyone tell me how to remove it?

Say....what kind of sound do you get from it? I turned a tight steep curve the other day and heard a terrible metallic squeal coming from the rear. Assumed it was a brake, but it has not done it again. Could this be what I'm dealing with???

    Bob

Squeal or a roar? I would check your wheel bearings. They can be hard to diagnose sometimes, noise in a tight turn makes me a little suspicious of a bearing.

I really doubt bearing woes..... First it only happened once for 5 sec. Second it was a high pitched squeal, sounding very metallic like something made of spring materials or sheet metals may sound. Third, it also sounded very direct, rather than internal.

Ya know, us guys should become physicians the way we dissect a symptom or sound and diagnose diseases of the car bases an 5 sec of exposure to it. I wish my Dr. did as well!!!!!!

I had the same issue before. I just bend mine and it worked. I thought about removing it as well but looks like theres more involved to it. Try bending that thing a little more...

  3. I would give Wevo a call in San Carlos. You could

also try Jerry Woods in Cambell. I know that Wevo would

do a Great job for you.

    Paul

Paul, hey im a san carlos man myself as i work on laurel st! anyway, i had given both wevo and sharkwerks a call today and neither want to take a project on like this......

thanks for your input though and see you on the track soon! just joined pca and starting school and the 11th.

so far i have contacted these shops with no luck:

    1) GD racing (south san francisco) - NO

    2) Wevo (san carlos) - NO

    3) Sharkwerks (santa clara) - NO

    4) Jerry Woods Enterprises (campbell) - havent heard back yet

    5) TRG (petaluma) - possibly doing the work

thanks for your input guys, i may have to goto arizona if TRG cant assist me.

Arizona? Try Reno. You're only 4 hours away. A frind of mine owns a shop and it's called Modified Auto. He works on ny cars, rebuilding engines, installing turbos etc. His phone number is 775-412-7884. Ask him to see if he can install it for you. I think a lot of them don't want to install it due to what's involved. It a PITA to install and it takes too long. Where did you get your supercharger from ? TPC? or Ebay?

  4. This is made by www.precisionporsche.com not Kokeln. It looks the same but way cheaper. If you buy Kokeln, you'll end up paying $3,000.00. This one cost way less. The spoiler is attached to the centerpiece which they made as well. Ask for Tony when you call. His phone number is on his website.

Yeah, I see that now. I was just looking at the smaller pictures and not the bigger detail. With the pictures blown up I can see that the Precision Porsche rear deck part is just an add-on deal (glued on?). I think the Kokeln part replaces the entire rear deck lid, which may account for some of the price difference.

I haven't seen this particular part on a Boxster before. You're bold to try it. I guess maybe it's the same rear deck as this car, at least a picture of this car is featured on Precision Porsche's website, so I "assume" it's the same rear deck. I had always thought that guy used the Kokeln part. It's funny that this car is labeled a "GT3 RS" same as yours. What's up with that? Does Precision Porsche give out those decals as a part of the deal or something?

    Kirk

With Kokeln, it requires for you to remove the whole deck lid and your existing stock spoiler. I kind of like the stock spoiler especially when it automatically goes up when you reach 75 mph and retracts back down when reaching 55mph(that's what the manual says but I never really looked while driving coz it's hard to see). I'll send you new photos this weekend. I had to re-install because the body shop where I sent it to, did not align it with my deck lid. They also put longer screws so I had to replace those as well. And I painted the aluminum part of the spoiler black to match the risers. Came out really nice....

here is the updated photos after re-installing it and painting the aluminum part attached to the spoiler.

It's not glued to the deck lid that he made. I'll take a photo of it to show you what it looks like up close. Also, the GT3RS sticker I bought separately on ebay...

  6. Who made your GT2 bumper cover? Where did you get the lower lip portion?

    Thanks!

The bumper cover I bought from www.precisionporsche.com. It came with the package deal including the side skirts. If you have any other questions, please PM me, I don't want the administrator to hink that I'm affiliated with them. I live in Reno and the company is in California.

  7. Is the rear decklid still made by Kokeln? It looks exactly the same to me. Is only the spoiler (actually it's a wing) different?

    Kirk

  8. windshield repair for your automobile. Whether your personal vehicle is in need of auto glass repair or replacement, or a business vehicle is in need of auto glass ny repair or replacement, we give you the ability to search for and compare the best deals from the leaders in the industry to remedy your auto glass chip, crack, or break.

Got mine replaced about two months ago. Didn't go with the dealership just went to the local glass in town. Cost: 380.00 including labor. Then again, my Boxster is old that's why it cost less. They have aftermarket and I know it cost less than that. Since, you'll never know what's going to happen in the future and the same incident may happen, my opinion is go with aftermarket. But if you have an extra money to spend on OEM windshield, then I'd go OEM.

  9. any ideas in CA for a shop to install supercharger? i live in the bay area, but anywhere in CA will do fine with some experience with this procedure

Any mechanic can do it. With experience is about 16 hours to install and without we're talking about 20 to 24 hours to install. And it's a pain in the a$$ to install superchargers. You can do it yourself. I hope yours came with an instruction on how to install, but then again the instruction doesn't really tell you much about installation. Just take it to any auto shop preferably that does modifications.

  10. I need to remove and bend the metal rotor shield that is directly behind the rotor. When I turn the vehicle hard left or right the shield is rubbing the rotor. It cannot be bent enough without removing it. Can anyone tell me how to remove it?

The dust shield. On track cars we take those off to help dissipate heat.

It has been a good 2 years since I removed mine, and I only have a vague recollection...but I seem to recall...

There are only 3 bolts holding the dust shield to the wheel carrier. The problem is the hole in the middle of the dust shield is not large enough to fit over the wheel hub, so if you want to remove the shield, you have to press out the hub.

You might find, though, that if you remove the caliper and the rotor, that you will have plenty off room to use your hands to reshape it or bend it out of the way. It is not a critical piece - like I say - most track cars have them removed.

I had the same issue when I replaced my rotors and pads...all i did was bend it to make sure it's not hitting the rotors and it worked...

  11. I am proud to be the first one to have a custom made GT3 type spoiler for BOXSTERS....After 2 years of trying to find a GT3 type spoiler, I finally found one that makes it. This type to fit my 1998 PORSCHE BOXSTER. Thought I'd share it with you guys. The price is half of the KOKLEN(not sure if I spelled it correctly) type racing spoiler. This one is lower and does not look like a grocery cart  that you see out there. Just about the right height and it looks nice from any angle you look at it. The price is half of the KOKLEN spoiler. Some may like it some may not but it's really a matter of taste. But I really really like this one. PM me if you want to know who makes it and I'll give you his contact information. Not really sure if I can post his contact info here. CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS..

no, you cannot post that info here..

  13. Ok, finally got my air box out of the engine bay. I have been searching for it here and surfing online to see if anyone has removed their air box and replaced it with a cold air intake. After 2 hours of cutting this thing into small pieces, I found out that the tube that goes on the side vent(left side) is the one that's catching on the hole. Therefore, there's no room when you try to yank it out. However, a good pull from the driver's side vent(remove the side vent in order to access the tubing) will pull this tubing out. You don't have to cut your air box(just like most of us did) or lower the engine, all you have to do is removed the three screws, one on the side fender and one below it and one on the driver side firewall, then pull the long tubing from the driver's side vent, and then you'll be able to remove the air box. So, now you can install your new cold air intake. What a pain in the rear cutting that thing...hope this help you guys when you replace your own air box air filter....

HERE ARE THE PHOTOS...ENJOY..SOUNDS REALLY AWESOME...AND I CAN FEEL THE DIFFERENCE ESPECIALLY WHEN REACHING 4 TO 6000 RPMS...NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AS WELL....

  15. It was time...

After looking at these pictures I was embarrass to post the before shot , anyway here's my results.

All four wheels and calipers were painted by me. Calipers I used Dupilcolor Red ceramic paint and the

wheels I use Wurth Silver and a 2 part clear coat from Spray Max 2 (expensive) but worth the cost.

I cleaned with Brake Cleaner then rough off the old clear coat with 320/600/900 and 000 steel wool.

No priming just 2 even coats of Wurths and 2 Coats of Clear.

The caliper were prepared with Cleaner and a lot of wet sanding. I was as careful as I could be to remove very little of the factory powder coating.

You need to feather out the edges where the clear is peeling. I was nervous using the Dupicolor it both matching the color and how well it sprayed.

I very satisfied with the results. The 480 pic's photos do not do them justice.

I was quoted 350+ (powder coating) for the Calipers and $400 for the wheels.

My cost with apprx .$75 and 10+ hours labor in the garage.

    .

looks cleaner...i'm planning on doing my C230 kompressor..thanks for the info

  16. That's what I did too....just cut the **** thing out. Wasn't like I was going to put it back in anyway. I do recall however, reading somewhere that if you loosen the engine mounts and drop the engine down about 1/2" the box will come out in one piece. I thought about taking that route, then said the hell with it and just cut it apart.

i know..dropping the engine sounds like a lot of work than cutting the air box and just trashing it. it's always easier to break things than to fix it :D

  17. I installed the EVO cold air intake on my 2001 Boxster S today. I have to say, I'm quite impressed. I've never been one to get caught up in the manufacturer's hype of added horsepower, so I wasn't expecting much other than a different sound (which is monstrous by the way). As far as the horsepower gains go, evolution motorsports claims it adds up to 9hp....frankly I don't feel it. It's probably more like 3 or 4, and that's hardly noticable. It does, however, increase the throttle response immensly. From about 3000 to 5000 rpm (especially in low gears) it feels like a different car! Much quicker off the line and a bit more passing power. If anyone's thinking of getting this system, I'd highly reccomend it. If nothing else, It's worth it just for the music that comes from the engine!

PS I was wondering if anyone with this intake has had any trouble with the MAF...............

how do you remove the air box? I'm working on mine right now and was struggling to get that thing out. All screws were removed, removed the screws from teh intake manifold and with no luck, the air box is still won't come off. thinking about cutting the air box into small pieces until it's out...any help would be greatly appreciated..(almost passed out today due to hot weather. Was workng on it for 5 hours trying to figure out how to remove it. The outcome: I GOT A MASSIVE HEADACHE!!) and probably was dehydrated...WAIT! i was dehydrated...

  18. Any one out there replaced their clutch? I can't seem to find the thread on Renntech. I know there's got to be one or two out there. I have a boxster 1998 non-s model. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

    post-27827-1243728503_thumb.jpg

BTW. Sweet Boxster! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

thanks..replacing my old spoiler next week..found this shop that customize porsches..I asked for a GT3 RS spoiler type and he made one for me...getting it this week...once I get it, I'll post some photos. I know there are many spoilers out there for the Boxsters but none have made one for a race look type spoiler. He sent me some photos and it looks really nice.
