  1. yeah you can use the female hex socket...but I decided to buy one online. Found one on ebay. Just keep checking ebay.

my porsche tool kit doesn't include that headlight removal tool, i guess the previous owner lost it :( i did some research and it seems like it's a 6mm female hex socket, is that correct? i tired using it but it just keeps turning and turning, the headlight doesn't even get loose. anyone know what the problem could be? thanks!
  2. thanks!

Any reason why we shouldn't grease the back of the brake pads(not the one touching the rotors) but the one touching the pistons...I just did my brake pads on the rear and I put on some disc brake quiet grease...just needed to know what would happen greasing up the back of the pads...thanks

I wouldn't use brake grease - I would use the Porsche anti-vibration pads.

  3. so, how do you fix this problem? thanks

P0446 - EVAP Canister Shutoff Valve (Function) - Below Lower Limit

The task of the shutoff valve is to seal the purge air line to the EVAP canister during the fuel tank leak test.

    Potential causes:

    Purge air line blocked.

Flow resistance of EVAP canister too high.

1 - EVAP canister purge valve

    2 - EVAP canister

    3 - Purge air

    4 - Tank

    5 - Pressure sensor

    6 - Shutoff valve

    7 - Operating purge valve

    8 - To intake manifold

    9 - Vacuum control valve

Thanks very much for the detailed reply.

I plan to follow this up w/ my mechanic.

  4. You got it Loren! We will focus only on selling our own stuff on the forum :D . Just kidding, what I meant to say is we will respect your request and keep it toned down. Have a good weekend.

Please limit the "advertising" of your companies partners.

    Loren,

Your the admin - and I realize you have your reasons and I respect that. Let me be clear though, we don't have a partnership with them. I did offer to help them out with some interior upgrades for a rebuild project they are planning on doing and it is simply my way of thanking Karl. My point is, we have no affiliations with Fiberwerks nor do we have any financial interests in "advertising" for them.

Like Jerry, I'm a customer of Fiberwerks and I sincerely believe they have something of value to offer to the Porsche community. Loren, they are more than just a company, they are good people that do honest work, and their products are stellar. My hope is that others will get a chance to appreciate some of Karl's creations and I would vouch on his behalf any day. But just to set the record straight, they are not my company's partner(s). Thanks.

Ok, just don't overdo it. You are welcome to recommend folks here -- but you also sell something and this board has a strict policy about no commercial posting.

Good catch loren...I've seen these pictures everywhere...On ebay...The same photos and the same stories...Then when they get their attention, of course they'll ask where they got them, and how much it cost..And then they mention their website...It's a 100% advertisement...

  5. I replaced mine this past winter and got the same codes. Did you purchase Walker or Bosch O2 sensors? My CEL came on after several starts and the engine was good and warm. After about 5-8 starts the CEL went out and didn't come on again until 8-10 starts later. It has never come on when the engine was cold and never went off unless between starts. The gap has widened and the CEL hasn't come on in the last 30 starts. Here is a thread were others had similar experiences. O2 thread

If you get it figured out let us know.

hey thanks...someone suggested pull it out and turn it 180 degrees. Is that even possible? doesn't it only go one way to the connector???

  6. That rules out a bad splice. They could be the wrong type. If you still have your old ones, and an ohmmeter, measure the resistance of the heating circuit - across the two white wires (though yours may be different), and then unplug your new ones, and measure them.

will try to work on it this weekend. I got a new codes besides those four that I just listed. The new code is P0137 Oxygen Sensor After Catalytic Converter (Cylinders 1 - 3) - Signal Wire Short Circuit to Ground or Incorrect

It's not a walker or bosche..Here is the link from oxygen geek.com. I don't recommend these oxygen sensors. So stay away from these guys!!!Might as well buy the bosch ones from the dealership....I tried to contact oxygen geek.com but they haven't replied or returned any of my calls....it's a scam!!!

here is the link to their website: OXYGENGEEK.COM OXYGEN SENSOR DO NOT BUY!!!

I'll just put the old ones back and will try to return it....wish me luck..

  8. Ok, I just replaced all four oxygen sensors. I haven't driven the car since I replaced the water pump, belt, spark plugs, and oxygen sensors. After 15 minutes of warming up the car, the check engine light came on:(. Here are the codes:

P1115 Oxygen Sensor Heating 1 After Catalytic Converter - Above Upper Limit

P1117 Oxygen Sensor Heating 1 After Catalytic Converter - Below Lower Limit

P1119 Oxygen Sensor Heating 2 Ahead of Catalytic Converter - Below Lower Limit

P1121 Oxygen Sensor Heating 2 After Catalytic Converter - Below Lower Limit

Any ideas on how to fix this issues??? I erased the codes myself using my OBD...but not really sure if it will come back again. I got the oxygen sensors from oxygen geek.com...

    Thank you

Can you provide a bit more info - year/model, and describe the O2 sensor (direct fit / universal)?

They might have sent you the wrong sensors, and you may want to double-check your connections (particularly, if the sensors are universal with a spliced connector).

it is for a 1998 boxster, direct fit.......

  10. I was pulling out of a parking lot in MY '97 and I heard a strange clicking sound from somewhere underneath the chassis. Sounded sort of like there was debris stuck underneath or something so I got out to inspect and found nothing stuck or hanging under the car. 2 minutes later as I'm driving down the road I see my temperature gage climbing slowly toward red line. So I put the heat on full blast and pull over and shut down. The heat is blowing cool though so I'm assuming that the thermostat got stuck somehow. I let the car cool off for an hour and drive it home as the temp starts creeping up again. Wondering if any of you guys have had to replace thermostats before and if so, how involved of a job it is or if I should just take it to the shop.

    Thanks in advance

and here is another link I got from TOOL PANTS!!

My car is a 1998 986 and I had to replace the pump with only 46,000 miles on the car....Renntech.org has a lot of good people to help you out...and a lot of good information to get the job done... :renntech:

I just replaced my water pump due to leaks and the thermostat..if it's your water pump, it's a really simple process..all you need is time and patience...

  14. Will, if you wear the pants, then it is your responsibility to empty the pockets. For example, if you left money in the pants, and she washed them, who's money would it be then?

Did you know men who help their spouses do housework get more sex! True, I read this last year. And it works. Just a tip for you. :)

Okay, a few points for the record:

My wife took my pants while I was in the shower (I know TMI). I always empty my pockets after I get out of the shower and in my new pants.

My wife is a very successful business woman and doesn't need money found in the laundry.

I probably do more housework than my wife as we have a housekeeper and about the only thing we (I) do is take out the trash. It was a rare occasion that she did laundry.

We have a 16 week old baby and a 4 yo so as for sex.....you get what you get when you can get it :)

That being said, how does all this get my darn key fixed? This board has been pretty light hearted lately. Must be summer :)

    Will

    this is funny stuff! :D

  15. Need help!! I've been trying to pull my oxygen sensor off for half hour now and it seems that it is stuck from the connector. Is there a proper way or technique on how to remove it from the electrical connector? Thank you

Just press the release on the connector (red circle on attached photo) and pull down. Photo shows passenger side O2 connector before the catalytic converter.

    Derek

thanks Derek but your connector is different than mine...
