  1. A leaky water pump is not uncommon, and is often an indication the pump will fail soon. My recommendation would be to replace it.

Once you have replaced the pump and have all your hoses back on, you can refill the system via the fill tube located in the trunk next to the oil fill tube.

Take a moment to run a search, there is at least one DIY thread here on renntech on the proper procedure for filling and bleeding the cooling system.

    Good luck!

thanks Kabel..found the thread..still waiting for the seal and the hose I ordered from porsche....

  2. The tensioner is spring loaded and self adjusting. To remove the tension from the belt so you can get it on and off you turn the nut on the end of the tensioner clockwise. The nut does not actually move. The nut moves the tensioner pulley away from the belt. There is nothing to tighten. You will figure this out when you get in there.

thanks tool pants...i feel like an idiot asking that question about how much to tighten the tension...i dont know what I was thinking... ...but find out today too that I need a new belt drive...man, this just keeps getting better and better...i'll probably replace the thermostat since i already drained my coolant...what are your thoughts???

again, this has been a great website for DIY on boxsters....and a lot of good people :renntech:

thanks..it was funny though, I came across a water pump online for Boxster and decided to buy it; this was 4 months ago...I had it sitting in my garage since then, and now I needed it....All I need to purchase is the sealant as well...I found the procedure for filling and bleeding...will be working on the car this weekend...

Thank God for Renntech...Porsche dealership's labor charge per hour is now $96.00!!!! Other fees= tax, shop towels, disposal fee, and of course you have to buy the parts from them, and if they breakl something, they'll tell you that it was broken and it needs to be replaced! All in all, I will be saving around $800.00 for this... :renntech:

  4. post-27827-1212474529_thumb.jpg

Ok, so I thought I figured it out and went ahead and cut the old hose where it is connected to the (hold on I have to look at my manual to see what’s it called) ahhh filler hose clamp...a T-shaped hose...I will have it this Thursday. Anyway, I looked and noticed at the bottom where the filler hose is connected to(red arrow) it seems that the leak was coming from the coolant pump(or I’m not really sure if its leaking from there). I checked the old hose and it seems to be intact(before I cut it and drained my coolant) Now, I need to figure out how to refill it correctly!

I need some advice on :

    1. How do I replace coolant pump or just the seal? Any special tools?

    2. How to properly fill the coolant (bought the coolant from Porsche dealership) but I need to mix it with distilled water (this probably is a stupid question but here goes: where do I get the distilled water?; chemistry lab?? Heheheh I don’t know that is why I asked..

    3. And lastly, is the leak from the coolant pump common on boxsters?

    :renntech:

  5. porsche spoiler control

I have it in my car. It's only an LED that blinks as the spoiler goes up and down and stay red when it's up and off when its down. I thought it was also a switch so I could raise and lower it as well, but it's not. Its pretty cool to watch it blink when its going up, kinda lets you know its there and when the folk behind you are noticing a spoiler appear out of your car.

Took about 2 hours to install with ripping the dash cluster apart but not a hard install, just some quality time sitting in the driveway.

Here is the link where you buy the switch to lower and raise your spoiler..I was thinking about getting one but I'm not sure if I can install it myself...

  7. I went to the dealership because I am attempting to replace the windstop clips on my boxster 1998. They told me that I had to buy the whole roll bar pads. Does anyone know if the clips/ bushing that holds the roll bar pads in place can be purchased separately or if you know the part number so I can take it to the dealership...Thank you
