  1. I'm currently in the same boat. Cardan (drive) shaft needs to be replaced. I've purchased a rebuilt shaft from Vertex Auto, as I've heard that their shafts have a stronger center bearing and are less likely to fail (again) in the future. Cost was approx $200 cheaper than OEM, as Vertex offers a core return incentive. ie: send your failed shaft back to them for a $350 rebate.

My current problem is the installation. I've received an estimate for $600 to R&R the shaft, labor only. Other forum members advise that this figure is extreme and that the DIY is relatively easy. I don't have the tools and am sure I'll be hiring the job done; I just don't wanna get ripped off.

Anyone know what the book lists for labor hours to R&R this part (1.5? 2.0?)

    Thanks!

  2. Sounds like the ever popular ignition coil problem. If this TT is being offered at a Porsche dealership, I'd inquire about the coils. Specifically, has it had the coils replaced, and if so, what part number did they use? If the coils have been replaced, you may still have the check to see if any are currently cracked.

There are many posts/threads on this issue and any Porsche dealer will know what to look for.

    Good luck.

  3. I also went with the Hawk Low Dust pads, under advice from Mr. Mud. I got 'em on eBay; roughly 100 bucks for each set. My rears weren't up for replacement yet but did them at the same time just 'cuz I didn't want the dust anymore. Replaced the rotors in the front; rears were fine so I left them. I went with TriNET drilled, slotted rotors. Painted the calipers when everything was apart. Everything's awesome.

  4. Mine is an '04 CS. I'm looking to change the exterior door trim from the brushed aluminum to black. I've purchased the black pillars and the door handles. Now, I'm searching for the trim that surrounds the door and quarter glass. I've checked the Mitchell manual and can't seem to identify the part number(s). Anyone been down this road?

  5. Thanks to the previous posters!! Those instructions made my mod go (relatively) easy and painless. A couple of small suggestions: 1) use a magnetic torx tip on your flexible extension, and 2) have a helper handy to hold/keep the wheelhouse liner out of your way so you can use both hands to work on that fun upper mount screw.

  6. I have an '04 CS; love it. Mine came with the external full size spare tire carrier/gate. I understand, from the Seattle dealership, that this is an add-on that they've put on several Cayennes, as it satisfies all the real requirements of a spare. The down side: it's about $7k!!

I was not a fan of the look of this whole 'unit' and opted to remove it. I've had it stored in my garage for a year now. If you're interested in this type of spare, I'd let mine go. I have all the necessary parts, including the bumper, the carriage, the wheel, tire, cover, nameplate, wiring harness, etc.
