  1. I have been lurkin on this forum and it's been a lot of help just by doing searches, but I've just hit a brick wall and need help, here goes:

The car is a 2002 Carrera 4S and we're trying to install a 996 GT2 wing. I got the engine bonnet and wing itself, the other hardwares the attaches the wing to the legs are on the way. My question is: can I use the C4S fan on the GT2 engine bonnet, is there a way to retrofit the bonnet so I can have the air duct at the correct side. We haven't taken the C4S bonnet apart just because we want all the information we need before dismantling it.

I hope somebody in here has done this mod. Any help is appreciated.

i don't think the oem gt2 wing fits the C4S. you have to get the one from www.mashaw.com, email the guy, he has one for the C4s. I'm getting it soon, i'll post pics once it's installed.

Actually, it should fit with a bit of fabricating. Just be sure you have the right front lip tp compensate or you'll have one squirrly ride. At the very least the oem TT lip. Misha makes one that retains your stock lid, only replaces the retractable unit. But the problem with aftermarket wings or mixing and matching oem aero parts is the total lack of any AD testing, maybe not important for street/bling use, but at the track/high speed instability will become a problem. I had the misha gt2 wing with TT lip, switched it out to a oem aerokit.

The OEM aerokit is tha way to go imo. I may be selling mine before too much longer if you're interested.

  2. hey guys!

bad news. i was in a really bad mood tonight and i think i broke something in my transmission...

i was at a light and when i saw it turn green, i decided a little gas will cheer me up... so i gunned it..

sadly, my mind must not have been paying attention since i must have let out the clutch before shifting completely into 2nd gear.... some of you knows what horriffic sound i hear next... clik lcikc lickkkciclicic....

uh... so tell me, did i break something???!?!?!?

i drove home without any problems and 2nd gear still works.. but i want to know the long term effects of this and if i need to get anything checked out...

    thanks for the advise!

    regards,

    jason

Just the synchros grinding a bit, I wouldn't worry about it, just don't make a habit out of doing that!

  3. I lease cars all the time, mainly because I can write the thing off. My practice(pc) makes the payments in pretax dollars, same goes for all the consumables associated with the car (tires, gas, etc). Never put down a dp on a car you are going to lease, you want to minimize your out of pocket/up front costs (that's not deductable). Roll the taxes into the lease pymnt and pay it all with pretax dollars.

Remember, negotiate down a price, zero dp, zero sd, and minimize up front costs.

Leasing isn't for everybody, if you can't write it off, I wouldn't do it, check with your accountant.

  4. When I was a resident, I bought my wife a beater( nissan, first and only japanese car, sorry bad taste in my mouth) to get around in, blew the motor after two weeks, numerous other problems, finally got my money back for the car. Later I did a carfax on it just for kicks, nothing showed up, not even the fact that the car was scrapped after I returned it!

  5. Thanks to rockitman, this should be helpful.

Thanks kiyo I installed them last night. They are super loud I love em I'm planning on keeping them on unless my neighbors start complaining or the cops bust my chops. The only problem that I have is I got a system fault return to workshop. I'm thinking it might have to do with an o2 sensor. I'm just hoping they don't charge me an arm and a leg for some B.S. when I bring it in.

I would take them off prior to visiting the workshop, your cats are fried, known to happen with bypass pipes. The cats are 1495 each plus labor, zero under warranty. If they see the pipes, might deny the claim.

  6. Resolution:

Took the car to Rennwerke in Elmsford, NY and we looked at it together. Problem was easily tracked to Part #12 above. It seems the "spoiler transmission" that lifts the spoiler is shot... The piece I am referring to is the quarter-circle PVC pipe looking mechanism, on the right side near the spoiler motor.

The mechanic said you cannot open it because there are springs inside, really have to replace. In addition I think the spoilers days of lifting are numbered, because if the decklid is raised and the spoiler extended via the manual switch, the spoiler had trouble extending... in fact was lopsided when it came out.

In the end, I will have part 12 replaced. The dealer was right all along. Hope this helps people out... I don't think I am the only one who will have this issue.

    Ross

He's wrong, you can take it apart, uses a small torx, there are no 'springs inside', there is a cable and slot mechanism that easily goes together. Your 'tech' has obviously never taken it apart as I have. Just pick the bones of the used peice you have, it's a 1hr job, max.

  7. What is actually the difference between the two? Do they have the same dimensions ie. thickness, mounting holes etc? Also if they fit a standard C4S do they provide a braking improvement?

    Many thanks,

    Damian

I think the C4S/TT big reds are a larger diameter, better stopping. If you want to upgrade for the track, just throw on some pagid orange pads on yours, hand of god stopping at the track.

  8. Has anyone had experience with the spoiler not retracting smoothly? I ran mine up and down the other day when I was washing it and noticed that it almost acted like there were some bad gears or something in one of the extension tubes.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

Sounds like a problem in the tube-in-tube elevator mechanism (all plastic, no gears), try spraying the mechanism with wd40 as well as the hinge mechanism on the spoiler itself. I've had mine apart several times troubleshooting after instillation and subsequent fixed spoiler removal, very quirky peice of equipment.
