  1. Hi Jason, The screenshot gives us one more piece of the puzzle. The upstream o2 sensors should be switching 200 mV to 850 mV. for a 14.7:1 fuel ratio. Your o2 sensors 0.4 mV to 0.74mV is giving a lean bis command to the ECU in turn adds more fuel. Do you know if you were in closed loop when you took the screen shot? the cat needs to be at least 600 F. to go in to closed loop. You really need more than just a fuel presser gauge and a vacuum pump and gauge to get to the root cause of the issue. You should also have scan tool that can show what the long term and short fuel trims are doing for a proper diagnosis. If you get a MIL light again before you clear the codes I would get the freeze frame data as this will give a clearer picture of what was happening when the MIL was triggered. There are several issues that could be the cause. 1.fuel pressure 2.leaking injectors 3. vacuum leak.4. unmetered air just after the MAF or at the exhaust just before the o2 sensors.   3. I agree with Mijostyn, I would pass! The car sound like a problem waiting to happen. Whenever you look at the paint and interior should be almost flawless. They are out there you just have to keep on the lookout. I can tell you this about Porsche, If you take care of it they will last forever. The first Porsche I owned was 85 911 Carrera for 23years it was my daily driver and I tracked it on the weekends. I loved that car but stupid me my cell phone rang and I looked down for a split second that was it, I totaled it. I can tell you if I did not make that mistake I would still own that car. Now I have a 97 993 C2S that’s my daily driver. Have had it since 2008 put 41000 miles on it without any issues just normal maintenance. Be patient and picky it will pay off in the long run.

  5. Hi Krjohnson, Whoever cleared your codes should have informed you that all the monitors need to run before you retest! You can force all the monitors to run with an OEM scan tool if you can get your hands on one. If not just follow the drive cycle procedure you should be fine. Also the EVAP monitor will not run if your gas tank is over 3/4 full or below 1/4 tank. I have also attached the drive cycle procedure for you to follow. I know this procedure well as I am CA licensed smog tech that owns a 1997 993 C2S. Hope this helps let me know if you have any questions. 993_obd2_readiness.pdf
  6. Before you just start reprogramming the DME you need to get to the root cause of the issue. IE: Mechanical, Fuel, or Ignition / Electrical related. Once you drill down on or more of the list it will point you in proper direction of diagnosis. Do not just shotgun this you will waste a lot of time and money. As for fuel you used up the tank of Costco so I would move on as you do not have a sample to test for ethanol or water. As for using racing fuel to solve your issue its not practical and a waste of money unless you planing on running at the track. Also sounds like this car has been on the track? You might want to find out when is was over revved. The DME records when the vehicle has used the rev-limiter and at what RPM and Hrs of operation it occurred. As for the flywheel diagnosis I would use a lab scope to see the sensor waveform before starting to condemn the flywheel. Don't you just love technology! :D
  7. We must remember that scan tools are not magic. They pull codes to point you where there is a possible issue. For instance just because the tool gives a P2181 coolant performance does not mean we just throw a thermostat at it for a fix. The tech has to prove what has failed in the system by testing with DVOM meter or a lab scope. IE: temp sensor, wiring, harness, connecters. Once he sees that everything is working normal and to spec. now you replace the thermostat. I have seen techs at a lot of shops throw parts at issues because the scanner has given a code with out any further testing. This shows a misunderstanding of how the systems work and lack of proper training. As for Durametric it’s a good scan tool for the money however it can’t compete with OEM PIWIS @ $4000 $6000 depending on how you have it setup. The moral of the story is no mater what scan tool you have it's not a silver bullet.
  8. Did the last shop get the freeze frame data? if you had that it would point you in better direction than just throwing parts at it. You need to verify if the coil is intermittently bad. If the CEL light is on you will need to get the freeze frame data and make note of it then clear the codes. if you have P0302 its cylinder #2 misfire. Next take a sharpie and number all the coils on there cylinders. now take the #2 coil and swap it out with coil # 4 or #5 whatever is not giving you a issue. Drive and see if you have a misfire on the new cylinder with the #2 coil. If you do that coil is bad. Hope this helps please keep us posted. Also if the flywheel is out of round you would see more then one cylinder misfiring.
