  1. I had this problem on my 02 boxster. had to replace the driver side door latch mechanism. There are 2 switches that trigger the window to go down about 1/4 inch when you open the door. one on the inside door handle, and one on the outside. if you pull the handle a bit, and the window goes down, then they are working fine.

Inside the door latch mechanism there are several other switches. One senses the condition of the door latch, letting the computer know if the door is open or closed. What you are describing is a failure of the door latch switch, which unfortunately, is not servicable. I bought the replacement part from the link on this site, Maybe sunset porsche, for 128 bucks. Spent less than 2 hrs one saturday installing, pretty easy.

pellican parts had a nice write up on the inner door panel removal and latch mechanism replacement too.

  2. Hello,

Thanks in advance for your help. my driver window is not staying down when i open the door from either inside or outside handle. I mean, it lowers when i open the door with either handle, but as soon as i let go the window moves back up even if the door is open. I have not been able to find the exact problem by searching so thought I'd ask for help. can you help me diagnose / troubleshoot the problem please? thanks

  3. Update on the leak. Local independant mechanic has replaced the 1/2 shaft differential seal. I think that's what he called it. Anyway a seal with a spring around the inside where the spring holds the seal tight around the shaft. I wish i had kept the old one to show. it looked like it had gotten hot and melted just a bit. maybe a dry startup at one point? anyway, leak fixed and didn't cost too much.

  4. Hey renntech viewers, i need your help. I noticed a very small quantity of oil on the floor of my garage under the back of my 02 base boxster with tiptronic. Upon further investigation i noticed what appears to be oil dripping from the passenger rear boot where it connects to the transmission. Please see the attached photo. I took to top off and looked at the AOS and it does NOT appear to be leaking, so any thoughts? Thanks

  5. Hello, I'm wondering if anybody has done the mod to add 3 blink control relay to a porsche. My wife's Touareg has this feature where if activate the blinker just a little, it will blink 3 times. This way it doesn't stay on all the time. I have found a VW part 000-998-229-A that I am not sure if it would work on a boxster. I tried several searches for comfort signal, three blinker, etc. but no luck. If anybody knows how to do this mod I would appreciate a link. Thanks

  6. mine squeaks a bit too, and I tried all the adjustments I've read here. So Before I install every fall, I spray some food grade silicone spray onto a rag and wipe all the seals / gaskets thoroughly. this seems to take care of them. no need to remove the top, just release the front latch and lift up slightly. Hope this helps.

  7. OK, so I took my TB apart to clean this morning. when reassembling I broke this Y fitting for the air lines between what I think goes between the supply of the TB and the intake manifolds right above the heads maybe? The air lines are pretty old and tough. Any ideas as to how to get these air lines apart and replace this part? I've also posted a request for the part on the other forum. Thanks all.

  8. I've done some searches on the site to no avail.

My 2002 base boxster 2.7 has an exhaust rattle. I've tried everything I can think of and it appears to be internal to the cats on the headers. My question is does anybody know if an exhaust from a 2003 3.2L will fit my 2.7? What would need to be replaced if anything? can I keep the muffler and just change the cats / headers? Thx

  9. Hi all, so I bought a set of Porsche sport design split rim wheels made by BBS. They had the normal corrosion on the outer rim. After researching all around the internet I decided to tackle the refurbishment of these rims myself. After completing this project I am not sure what all the concern is about splitting these rims. They separated easily; they went back together as if they were new. Other than some minor difficulty finding a couple of replacement screws that I broke off upon disassembly it was pretty easy. Anyway, attached in the PDF is my DIY. I hope you like. Thanks RennTech for all of the help in the past. B)

  10. I'd say DON'T DO IT. Also living in VT our roads are terrible. This year seems to be especially bad. How much packed snow and ice are still there today? Vermont roads + snow and ice + low ground clearance = damage to your ride. If you must I would agree you need some dedicated snow tires. I'd be willing to sell you a set of 17" boxster rims from my 02 for a pretty cheap price if interested.

If you want to take a Porsche in the snow, you should get a Cayenne.

  11. When I bought my boxster it had the Kumho Ecsta ASX. Overall not a bad tire for the price. My 02 has 17 inch rims. I've recently puchased some 18 inch sport design two piece rims and am in process of writing a DIY for center removal and refinishing of the outer rim. I found some new continental sportcontact 2 tires on ebay for very cheap. I've read some good feedback about them, but also some negative feedback. So I bought them and will have them put on. It will be a couple of months before I can judge as I am moving from Vermont to North Carolina. Anyway, before finding such a great deal online i nearly purchased some Goodyear Eagle F1 All seasons. Excellent reviews all around, and according to Goodyear website, 50K mile warranty too! check around for prices. Tires.com tirerack.com treadepot.com and easy-tire.com are good places for info and reviews.

  12. i had the exact same problem with my hardtop. I tried to switch which side I engaged first but still could not get the driver side in. What I found was a burr on the roll pin or ears of the engagement part. I lightly sanded the edges of the roll pin (not the pointed part, but the "T" parts) down and the next try it went right in.

  13. Hi, I just dropped my top off this morning to a local body shop for repainting to match my car. I stopped by on the way home from work and it was all disassembled. They carefully pried the two metal strips off of the top from around the gaskets. Basically there are 4 plastic clips that hold them on. The rest was pretty simple they said, they did leave the glass in however. They had stripped the inside lineing out as well. If you like I could get some specifics but the way they spoke it was pretty straight forward. you could check out https://dcauto.gotdns.com no www in there.... i found some good exploded view drawings. I have never bought anything from them so i couldn't tell you about their customer serivce etc. Hope that helps
