  1. Airbag light is on and Durametric lists code 31 - ignition switch passenger airbag as the cause. A while back I had a window regulator issue on the passenger side and while disassembling the door panel I admittedly broke the airbag connector. While the vehicle was in service for the regulator they replaced the airbag connector in the door. Light just came on last month, about 2 months after service. It may be unrelated to the connector repair but I thought I'd mention that.

Can someone point me towards where the problem may lie? Vehicle is a 1999 Boxster.

  2. Sorry if this is not the appropriate place, but can anyone recommend a Porsche repair facility in eastern NC? I live near Greenville and have been taking my car to the dealer, Performance Automall in Durham, at least 90 miles each way not mentioning the fact that I have to leave it and take off work to do it.

I had a problem with the fuel gauge not going to full when I filled the tank, it would hover around 1/3 a tank and after 4-5 restarts it would then raise up to full. They had diagnosed and replaced the fuel sender and my gauge still doesn't give the correct fuel level and I have restarted the car about 10 times and it is still sitting around 1/3 tank even though it is almost full. When I got it from them the fuel gauge was at full and I ran it back down to less than a quarter tank and filled it yesterday.

I can't help you with a repair shop closer to Greenville, but I can suggest two "home remedies" to try.

    1. Remove the key from the ignition. Fill the car full. Disconnect the battery and leave disconnected for five minutes or so. What we are trying to do here is re-calibrate without the benefit of a PST2. Try this over 4 - 5 fills.

    2. Related, do you leave the key in the ignition when you fill it? Try removing the key completely. There is something about some continued contact sometimes with the key in that can mess up the reading.

I have not had this issue, but I understand many other 986s have.

Good luck, from a former North Carolinian.

Thank you for the reply, I will give this a try. BTW I do always remove the key when I fill it also.

  4. I have a problem with the passenger side window on my 99 Boxster. Normally when you pull up on the door handle the window will lower as you open the door and then raise back up to create a tight seal when you close the door. Right now when you pull the door handle you can hear it sound like it is trying to lower the window but it won't actually do it. Like if you gently pull the handle, not enough to open the door, you can hear the motor kick in and you will see the window act like it wants to move but won't. I took the panel off the door today and couldn't really find anything wrong except that there seemed to be a significant amount of play on the front cable. The rear cable seems very tight with no play. Take a look at this picture, this is when the window is fully raised:

The window raises and lowers fine with no problems at all from the switch however what does seem to be strange is that when the door is open, if you raise the windows to maximum it will go all the way up to the level the window is supposed to be at when the door is closed. Usually when the door is open it is only supposed to raise so high and not raise that extra 1/2" to create the seal until the door is closed.

I haven't made any adjustments to anything and not really sure if that will help anyways. Up until yesterday it seemed to be working fine. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

  5. ROW My 99 986 remotes have only 1 button, just the doors. Later MY's have 3 button remotes, doors, rear trunk and front trunk, i think your car use a 2 button 996 remote, there are a lot of on the road. I could be wrong.

I have a 99 986 and my key has both the doors and boot release buttons. As far as I can tell they are stock and have never been replaced. I have only had the car about a year or so.
