  1. RE: Caliper painting. IMHO...I think caliper painting is fine as long as you are painting them red and done professionally so they it looks like the factory brakes. Brembo brakes (what is on these cars) are red not black and the brakes on these cars are larger than just about every other car on the road today. I understand that Porsche wanted to paint the brakes black to denote entry level model, red to denote the higher level model, and yellow for the PCCB top of the line model. But......they screwed that up when they painted the S brakes on teh 986 red that are the EXACT same brakes as the standard black ones on the 996 narrowbody cars. So, black or red is fine on any model of Porsche. But, yellow should be left to those guys with PCCB. I am just one of those guys that belives Brembo calipers should be red no matter what size they are. Have you seen some of the older brakes systems on the 911??? Anyway, just my $.02
  2. That's a real deal. Nice I might add!
  3. ROFLMAO!!! Those are almost as bad! Nothing like the C240 AMG or the 318 ///M Don't they have 0-60 times in the 9's??????
  4. Looks like quality work. With regards though to your rear decklid......You really need to remove the "S" from that car. Nothing worse than applying a badge (emblem) to a car that it is not and looking like a poser.
  5. Well my dealer (both Porsche and MB) pour ONLY 0W-40 in the cars. If Porsche and MB states (more specifically Porsche) that Mobil1 0W-40 is the factory fill and approved oil for the cars then that is all I am going to pour as a DIY'er. What I was more interested in was if anybody had info that either is was discontinued and if so what Porsche has changed to. I did find the oil at Checker (Kragen's).
  6. So I was out shopping yesterday at the local automotive store and I asked why they haven't had 0W-40 for some time now and it is getting harder and harder to find. He said that Mobil1 is discontinuing the 0W-40 line (funny since Mobil1 lists it on the webstie) and rec'd owners to use 5W-30 b/c Mobil1 tests have shown that is actually performs BETTER. I haven't seen a Porsche TSB nor a change to the approved oils list. I didn't believe a thing that counter rep had to say but it got me thinking....... So..........2 questions: 1) Is 0W-40 discontinued? 2) What is the replacement(s)?
  7. You might want to let the poster JDL175 on 6speed that his take on the complete kit is not correct. The COMPLETE kit comes with the bumpstops he says are optional and there are not droplinks in the kit (they are already on your car). I am amazed b/c jdl175 is Justin Lane of Brandywine Porsche. It is true (as one poster said) that the group buy price really isn't that great of a deal since that is about what I paid a few months back ($1K shipped) without the need of a group buy. The price is still great but the for the numbers you are sending his way the price should be better.
  8. I would ask you the same question as Loren......"what are you cleaning your wheels with". I had this problem in my sport designs when I was experimenting with this different cleaners and low and behold I got paint that peeled.
  9. Just do a brake bleed while you are in the process and you can easily move the pads back BEFOREHAND or take the pads out BEFOREHAND and either replace if time for new ones or just reinsert after the install.
  10. Personally I use a bungee tie down and hand it from the shock tower.
  11. I haven't heard anything, but that is one bad car!!! Thought that was a RoW production car only though. But hey, when you are a gazillionaire you can have anything you want.
  12. Try these guys. They are mobile: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/show...ad.php?t=194664
  13. Dan....that is too funny. I needed a good laugh this morning. Better safe than sorry is my take on your tape. You need to change your userID from Danyol to the BlueTapeTerror :)
  14. The Tech Wax http://www.meguiars.com/whatsnew/nxtproduc...e.cfm?SKU=G-127
  15. trust me....I'm not worried. By the way, there is also a sticker under your front hood that will have the rec'd tire pressures as well.
  16. FYI.....the X74 kit is roughly the same price as PSS9. Both are about $2-2.5K depending on where you get it.
  17. Having the car come from Germany doesn't mean the car wouldn't come with a manual. It was a simple question if you had one or not. Since you don't have one I would STRONGLY SUGGEST you get one so that you can answer basic questions about how the car is supposed to be taken care for.
  18. X73 is Wide Body (Turbo, C4S) X74 is Narrow (C2/C4) Both kits are for 02+
  19. Does your car have a manual?
  20. Sounds like the dealer is trying to pass the buck.
  21. Stefan, you are correct. But........liability in a used car transaction like this does not fall to Lizard1 after over a year and 22K miles on the clock. He sold the car in goof faith without deciet or witholding anything. No way to verify if the new owner has done anything, the driving styles, upkeep, etc........
  22. Say it ain't so........
  23. Maybe it's because they found out you are the "keeper of the truth" over here on Renntech. You mean you don't have answers for everything??????? :)
  24. X74 is for 02+ cars...not the 99-01. You would be best served (and the car) if you stick with parts made for your car and not try to "fit" other parts on. If you are considering X74 over M030 then just get the PSS9 setup.
  25. I am still puzzled why somebody you sold your car to called you after over a year and 22K miles. Not like you offered a warranty on it.
