Hello all,
Has anyone suffered a loss of all the audible warning noises from the dash? or does anyone have any idea why, on my daughters 04 S there are no warning sounds for the lights left on, indicators, temperature or low fuel etc.
She has been told it will cost circa $2000 to fix by a non Porsche shop and naturally she has concerns so she turned to her old Pops who now hopes someone here can make me look good here!!!
Thanks

Hell all,
Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of the Dension Gateway 500. My son in law wants one and is going to take advantage of the cheaper prices in the USA so would like a name of a supplier that will get the unit sent to his West Florida address.
Your suggestions are warmly welcomed
Thanks guys

I confess that I've just now become aware that the 2 lights on the PCM1 CD-rom of my MY2000 996 are both ON when the car is running, is this normal?? The sat nav seems to be working OK otherwise. When I switch the ignition off they go out.
??
Alex
That's normal, Alex
So the Stigs first name is DC then????

Fixed her...
Spliced new wire at the headlight for parking light and turn signal. Turn signal I ran new wire to the hazard light switch (green / black), Parking light I ran to the back of the headlight switch (grey / red). Tested, and everything seems to be running smooth now.
A huge sigh of relif on your part no doubt!!! Glad it turned out OK in the end
Use a new version of the old carpenters mantra next time - Check twice drill once!!!!

I just bought a -99 996/C2 with the 8 bit system in. I later bought a 16-bit system with the original 2002-1 cd for germany so that one is now installed and running nicly with the old German cd 2002-1. Now, i am in Finnland and therefore need the scandinavia cd and not the german cd, + a little newer would be nice B) . When pushing AC-button and right button i get info: PONA642D and PCM/IDIS V3.85.. (the 16 bit nav system is a 996.642.122.12 so that one should be the latest there is before pcm2 came along).
I understand that the pona part is correct (PONA642D) by reading in other forums etc. but the pcm/idis should be V5.43 to be able to use the new opel/Vauxhall cd:s.. How can i upgrade to get this version? I heard that you need both PONA and IDIS right to make it work? is this correct? I also heard that only PONA is important?? Wich one is the importent one or is it both?
I bought the Navi from a guy that have used 2007 Opel cd:s for portugal in it, but i dont know what his IDIS version was.
I guess that his PONA was the same since i now have his machine and my understanding is that the Pona is for the Nav unit and the IDIS for the PCM (screen)??
Am i totaly out flying here or have i understood it correctly?
Please advice anyone!!
I'm bought at ebay a new opel cd70 2008/2009 scandinavia and waiting for it to drop in to the mailbox anytime, so it would be nice to get it to work with this.. Will this have the V5.43 in it?
Sincerely
Åland (an island between Finnland and Sweden)

Carefully remove the airbag (no key in the ignition) and the detach the electrical connector - being careful of the clock spring.
Tighten the steering wheel nut and then reassemble.
Loren,
Do you reckon the guy might need to know about the two bolts on the wheel to undo first?

Cheers Gundo,
Handy tip I will try this next time,

This I don't know as I said I can't access the config anymore (I will try again when I install the next update) If you do manage to configure it so the selection is made without "turning a page" then let me know how and if I ever do get the config up again I can change. Turning the pages is the one bug bear I could do without.

Action,
I have the Dension 500 and I have at times, had display issues with the unit and Ipod. the latest update has helped but I do "loose" the data on the screen from time to time. When I say loose I mean that the menus don't configure correctly. At first I thought I may have misunderstood the very poor instructions and configured the text incorrectly and I tried to access the Config by the 6 x switch operation. I simply can't access that config anymore for some reason. Having said that I don't seem to suffer with loss of the screen data anywhere near as much as before and things have settled down nicely now.
I have the same screen as Berty and like his my main text is through Disc 5 If you have your screen on Disc 5 I would say you don't need to re-config as the way I understand the instructions is that this is the preferred position for PCM.

Nice one Paul,
Glad you sorted the codes out. I had a similar experience down here in the sarff with my code. Keep your eyes open on ebay for a nav disc.
RB
-
Paul,
I had a 996 with PCM 1 (8 bit) which given your year was the same as my car yours will be 8 bit too. I seem to remember needing two codes. One for the Nav and one for the PCM. You don't say if you have two codes?

Andy,
I think what maurice is looking for is this touble shooting guide I put together some years back. Its a way to test the operation of the microswitches that sequentially operate when you press the button to put the top up or down. The idea is you test each circuit until you find the switch that is not operating. Favorites to give problems are the parking brake switch or the switch in the roof hook recepticle.
Anyway try this link to the guide but you will need a voltmeter but don't worry if you never used one as I have a diagram showing where things go and when.
Hope you find the problem

I have done my own and I never come across the need to do that. I have just checked Lorens instructions on changing rotors and there's no mention of having to carry out that job there.
I have had no trouble and I am predicting you won't

Happens to me too on my 04 C4S - I took out my Nav Disc and the sound changed to even noiser the next time it happen so I am convinced it is something to do with the CD.
I have not suffered any degrodation in the PCM performance as of yet and the noise has been happening for at least 6 months.
RB
I just noticed on reading the posts again - am I the only one with PCM that this happens to?
-
I guess that will be a No then?

Got the chance of fitting a telphone handset into my MY2004 C4S Tip Cab with PCM2. The handset comes from a MY2002 pre face lift Boxster connected to a PCM1.
Can I do a straight swop or are there two versions of the handset? Anyone know?
TIA

Thanks TP,
It is exactly that, the buttons look like the previous owner had a nervous disposition and used the key to repress his anxeity by chewing on the them. He did so it much that they are dificult to press. Could have been whilst waiting for his service bill in a UK OPC.
And thanks again Loren for the tip regarding alternative assistance from other speacialist.

Thanks Loren,
I have a My2004 4S Cab so I expect the key will be the expensive one with the top and trunk buttons onboard. So 100 bucks for the key and another 100 bucks for the programming thats $200 coverted into UK pounds £100 - this is an expensive repair for a key as I am not to confident that the OPC here won't be more than $100. I gonna ask the PCGB if anyone has had it done recently.
Anyway thanks again

My car only came with one key... last owner lost the other I guess. Speaking of.. does anyone know where I can get a nice key that wont cost me $300 at the dealer?
have you tried Sunset Imports (Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost)?
They sell just the heads for $88.45— $105.55
Loren,
Excuse my ignorance regarding the keys but If I have a "chewed" head of my key can I simply buy a replacement head and do a swop? If so how does all the coding stuff work?
Thanks

There are a series of simple voltage tests you can do if you have a volt meter. All is explained in the troubleshooting guide attached to the post below
Check out http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=18477 which covers the same issues you have (and I had once upon a time)

Thanks for the photos!
Yes, I am accessing the lists through CD6 (menu). There you will find ABC-Search, which is helpful to find a certain song. The problem occurs only in CD6 mode!!!
Sorry Gert,
Been away on business so didn't get to see your post. I will look at your configuration on my GW this week-end and see if I can re-create your issue to see if it is the same for me.
Ron
Had time to have a look this evening and this is what i was able to see. From the CD list menu I chose menu but I do not see ABC Search anywhere?
RB
Thanks for looking! After choosing menu, there should be a lot of options, such as source, songs, playlists and so on. If you go to songs then, ABC Search should be offered.
Anyway, after you have chosen menu, and go go to track view, what is the first highlighted item? Can you choose this by pushing the knob?
Yes I can, I see the first song on that particullar list. I can highlight any track by spining the right hand button to my desired choice and just leave it highlighted and in a very short while it will automatically be chosen by the GW and play or I can turn the button to the required track and just press the button once and the track plays immediately.
I take it this isn't how yours operates?
