  1. every time i drive the car, i smell an odd burning smell and i can't tell where it is coming from and if it's something to worry about. i pop my hood and can't smell anything... but if i put my nose to the fan, it kind of smells like it's coming from there. is this a potential issue? has anyone else had anything like this?

the car is an '06 C2S that I purchased fairly recently. The car has 30K miles on it.

hi. look under your car. it should be the grease dripping on the exhaust pipes and burning. the grease comes from the rear wheel arms (not sure what these are exactly). just lift the car and you will see grease all over the place. easy to fix. cheers

  2. Is your car a Tiptronic? If so the mufflers need to have a flex joint, or corrugated section in them. Others have found if they put a straight connect muffler on a Tip then vibration comes into the car when in gear at idle. Goes away once under way.

yes. it is a tiptronic. so i guess it is not a big deal. what is a flex joint? if its inside the muffler, then nothing i can do about it. i can only feel the vibration when i am in gear in idle and when i just step on the accelerator a bit, thats when it comes out very noticable. once under way it is gone.

  3. hello. 986 my 2004. i just replaced my muffler with the cargraphic one for boxster 2.7/3.2, and noticed vibration in the steering wheel and even in the doors at idle and when i just touch the throttle to start moving. once moving, no vibration and just nice deep sporty sound from the new exhaust. is this vibration normal? can i somehow get rid of it or does it come with the sport exhaust as a bonus? thanks

  4. Shboxster, LoJack is a theft recovery system, hidden in the car, FYI.

thanks, theft of the car is not my concern. my worry is the headache and bills i would have to pay if somebody takes off some parts they like. correct me if i am wrong, but the original alarm does not sound unless someone tries to open a boot or a car. this means that anything on the outside can be removed and taken away. i am looking to install something that makes hell of a lot of noise. is it possible?

  5. Why would this be necessary? What about adding someting like LoJack instead?

to make some loud noise when someone tries to push, lift, touch the car and steal lights, mirrors etc. just to scare people off and attract attention. what's a lojack? i am not worried about the being stolen? just about not very smart/good people doing stupid stuff i don't want to pay for.

  6. thank you for the responses and tips. i have found the websites, and have asked one of those if they ship overseas, in my case china. an interesting and not very fun thing for me is that i have tried for a week to find ANY wheels in china, and failed. anything porsche or suitable for porsche is simply not available. nothing. apparently there are no orders now from anywhere (us, eu) for export so the factories don't have any stock and the car repair shops have no stock either. to order from a factory one has to order 500 sets of wheels. well, i have no choice now but to first buy one OEM wheel and wait for a month. i will get it through a car dealer from the eu at half the price of the official porsche quote. supposed to be the real deal. anyway, the whole situation is unpleasantly amazing. the factory of the world of anything real and fake has nothing to sell. anyway, a good thing is that now i know where to look for parts and will be ordering some stuff on the net (real stuff). cheers all

  7. hello. my ride is 2004 986 2.7. i am looking to replace my 17" SII wheels with 18". i was not planning to do anything about the wheels and was happy with the 17" ones, but **** happens. one wheel was stolen a few days ago. porsche prices are simply stupid (i live in china, where everthing branded costs crazy money). it takes more than a month to get the wheels from germany. so porsche oem is not gonna work for me at this time mainly because i am not gonna wait for a month for a wheel. i will order one rim later to make sure i have a full set of oem.

aftermarket wheels are priced all right, expensive by US standards, but cheap for me in china. what is the difference between the oem and other wheels? i assume all or most of the stuff is made in china anyway in the same factories with the same machines and materials, so the only difference would be a porsche mark up if you buy the wheels from porsche. is this right to say this? does anyone know who makes wheels for porsche?

  8. hi all. i am a new owner of a 2004 986. just noticed something strange while driving. i think it happened after a sudden stop right after sudden acceleration. "tiptronic emergency run" warning light went on and almost instantly went off. there was also a round red OK sign under the message. the car runs fine, gears change as if nothing happened. what is it? did tiptronic or the computer did not know what gear to engage because of my rough driving? anything to worry about? thank you for your comments.
