  1. What: Work on Cars Event in Walnut Creek or Fremont-- Specific location is TBD

    Date: Sunday, Dec 6, 2009 @ 11:00am

    Who: Anyone with a Porsche!

    Address: PM me for it

This is a follow up to the 11/15 Sunnyvale work on cars event that Max held at his home.

Feel free to join us-- We will be finishing a few OBC Hacks (be sure to bring your parts!) and doing a few other small winter maintenance items. Bring any tools you need.

  2. Now people need to get their parts to do the retrofit.

Good news-- I order my parts from Sunset :)

    996.613.219.10 EWC -- 4 Stock assembly: $179.88

    000.979.009 -- VW wire (need 5 of these): $1.69x5 = $8.45

    999.650.513.40 -- Wire connector: $3.62

993.552.573.0101 C -- Rubber gasket for the new stock: $6.77

    Parts Total: ~ $198.73

    Shipping Total: ~ $10

    ====================

    Grand Total: ~ $208.73

Note: you can save ~$2 by using a BMW wire connector. (BMW part #: 61.13.6.909.058)

Let's aim for a follow up Work-on-cars day the 1st weekend of December--

    How about Sunday, December 6th?

  3. ** Update **

Tool Pants brought his System Tester to the work on Cars event-- he was able to do what the Dealer claimed would not work and enabled the OBC.

It turns out the Option Code Spec was missing from the computer. Once we enetered it, we were able to access and enable the OBC. The software faults on the Instrument Panel & AC (from the radio change) were non-issues.

Now that the OBC is enabled, I'll order the parts.

If anyone is having a similar issue and needs more details-- let me know.

  4. The OBC was turned on for all cars, including the one the dealer could not do. One of the cars did not have cruise control so that was turned on as well. Even managed to program a remote key without screwing things up.

Now people need to get their parts to do the retrofit.

    Nice work all!

Thank you for all your help & expertise Tool Pants!

I'll order my OBC control stalk assembly this week along with Maxodus for his car & his friend's car.

We'll do another WOC event after thanksgiving-- Aiming for 1st week in December.

At the very least, this should give us 3 cars for the retrofit.

    Thanks again!! :)

  5. ok--

I'm trying to complete the On-Board Computer (OBC) Hack to enable the OBC on my 2003 Boxter--

But, it seems I'm unable to bypass a software instrument fault using the new System Tester to get to the OBC options to enable it.

I swapped out my Radio last year for a new DVD/NAV system. Doing so obviously created a Fault in the computer for the instrument Panel & AC (since the old radio talks to both)... No big deal-- except, I did not have the dealer enable the On-board computer beforehand.

Now, with the new touch screen System Testers, the dealer seems unable to bypass the fault to enable the OBC. They think it's possible with the old PST2 testers-- I obviously do not own one and the dealers don't seem to have them anymore.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

Putting the old radio back in is not a viable option...

Here is a picture of the old PST2 -- If you have one & live in Northern California, please let me know!! :)

  6. If anyone has a PST2-- please, please, please bring it! :)

I would like to use it enable the On-board computer to do the OBC Hack.

Since I changed my radio, I'm unable to have the dealer change it for me. The new dealer testers do not have the ability to override/make changes to items that have faults. (Changing the radio creates a fault on instrument panel & AC).

    Thanks!!

  7. lol that's a great pic why i didn't think of that! Looking forward to meeting you Tool Pants! Let me know your brand of beer so i can stock up ;)

Haha, now that's a luxury bottle opener!

I'll bring some food for everyone to grill.

Let me know if anyone has meet/vegi preferences.

Maxodus, send me a count of how many people you expect as the date gets closer. :)

  8. What: Work on cars Sunnyvale

    Where: Max's house

    When: 11/15 Sunday

    Time: 11:30am

Who: Anyone with a Porsche! And their significant other(s) of course~

Addresses: Please PM me for addy

The season is changing and I've racked up a few maintenance items to do before the colder, rainy season hits us (oil change, rear brake sensors, belt inspections etc). Instead of working alone in my garage (house), I'd love others to join if they have small projects of their own to complete. I can fire up the BBQ at the backyard as well, for some BYO style munching.

Btw Anyone can do the OBC hack here? Drinks reward!

    Sounds like fun-- I'm in.

I have some maintenance work and would be interested in the OBC hack.

I should find the part # & order the arm from Sun Coast if we're going to do it.

  9. Anyone interested in a Bay Area work on cars day?

Due to the holidays, a number of us should have a bit of free time this month into the next.

I'll be glad to host it at may place in the East Bay (there is plenty of room), or I'm up for other options (South/North Bay etc...)

There are number of new mods I'd like to work on as well as a sound system overhaul.

Any suggestions on dates? I'm flexible.

  10. Anyone interested in getting together to do a work on cars event? Looking at my calendar, the Saturday after Xmas (29th of this month) is open for me.

I'm up for it (even if it is a year later then you posted about it!)-- I want to do the OBC hack and a few other mods.

Anyone in the bay area interested in a work on your car day?

  11. ... I believe Porsche upgraded in 2003 model, sound muffler that is Im talking about. But I'm not 100% positive....

You're correct-- I went to de-snorkel my 2003 Boxster today and to my surprize, I found a grill behind my vent (attached with a screw on the top)! Also, the snorkel looked a bit different from the 3rd image juniinc posted in the 1st post of this thread.

I modified his photo to show the endcup that is missing from my 2003.

    post-32592-1229330142_thumb.jpg

Again, my snorkel looks the same as the pre-2003 (pictured above), just without the bottom "cup" at the vent end.

Has anyone pulled the snorkel out of a 2003?

Does it still improve the sound even though the “cup” is not on the 2003 model?

I'll see if I can take a photo of it.
