  1. The diagnosis

    approach I would use is to run the car ~50 miles at speed so you know the battery is changed well.

    Use a multi-meter to verify that the change is around 12 volts by measuring across the battery.

    Most Starting Car batteries have a fairly high reserve capacity or amp-Hour rating.... Most modern radar detector draw minimal current, but if your battery was marginal, I guess it could drain it in a week.

    A multimeter should read between 12.6-12.8V an hour or 2 after u turn off the car if it is close to 100%... 12.0V would be a pretty flat battery.

    might check that the courtesy lights inside the front and rear "trunks" are really going off

  2. Just a little side note on oil seperators, there should be a very slight negative pressure in the cranckase on a normally asperated engine while idling. The quick test if the oil cap is opened the vehicle should not die emediately or sound as if it has extreme gasping noise, there are gauges to measure this pressure, but a trick that we used in the shop is to use a latex exam glove with a rubber band around the fill tube, it should pull in when started showing slight negative pressure, if it balloons outward the seperator is bad, or if the extreme gasping noise is heard when opening (sometimes it can be even hard to get the fill cap off when this occuring) .

    Can the AOS be bad and not have smoke???

    I have been reading post here for several days to try to gleen some info on the problem I am having. I have had no luck so it is time to ask for some help.

    I have a 98 boxster with manual trans and no mods. A few weeks back I had a problem with check engine light coming on. I had it checked and got a P0102(if I remember right) I ordered a new MAF and installed it. I thought that would be it. NO Way... I was driving everything feeling good so I decided to have some fun. Bad choice...at 5krpm the engine falls flat on its face and dies. I, somewhat embarrassed, make my way to the side of the road with my fine piece of German engineering. I was able to get it started but run very bad and when trying to accelerate to let the clutch out it died....several times. I was not too far from Autozone and had them to check the codes and they got P1124, P1126, P1128, and P1130. The car ran real bad until the CEL came on then it seemed to get better. I have looked for the vacuum leaks and did tighten up some clamps.

    I took it out again after changing the battery and everything again seemed ok unit the magic 5k rpm mark was crossed. It stalled again except this time I could not get it restarted. There was no check engine light on at the time. Being not too far from the house I set leather to the road to retrieve a wrench to disconnect the battery. After disconnecting the battery it took a couple of starts to get it going but finally started and went on to the house..under 5k rpm... :)

    Please help I am missing my fun time..
