  1. I paid $90 four years ago on eBay but I can't remember the manufacturer. That was for all four pedals made for the Boxster. They're aluminum with raised metal bosses around the holes which really give a good bite on your soles. I never tried the rubber knobs but I can't see them giving as much traction. Couldn't be happier with them and I couldn't justify the $300 for Rennlines or Gemballas.

  2. When I bought my 2003 Boxster S last October, I was kidding my wife that I need to upgrade my old Triumph with a car that was made after cup holders were invented (air bags are nice too). Now she has a laugh about the Boxster because I can't find a cup that will actually stay in the larger of the two cup holders. At first I didn't realize that they were different sizes and then going around a corner my cup went tumbling out onto her legs - luckily for me it was pretty much empty.

    Why the heck Porsche would make such a crappy cup holder and go the extra mile to make sure they make one of them so big it won't actually hang onto a cup is beyond me. So my question is, has anyone found a cup that will actually stay in the larger holder on an 03 Boxster?

    For what it's worth, I remember reading that when the Germans were told that US cars needed cup holders they were appalled. Seems their philosophy is driving is something you do for the sake of driving. That you would distract yourself with eating & drinking was foolish. It shows in their lack of effort regarding cup holder design.

  3. 30 years ago, as a teenager, I worked at a gas station in CT. The rule then and now was cars had to be turned off during refueling. This one old guy in a Pontiac would come in on occasion and when you finished pumping his gas (filler behind the license plate), he would restart the car. It never failed, that beast of a car would backfire. It would get your attention, particularlly at night. So here's all these just-dispensed fuel vapors, hanging out by the rear of the car, when this things blats out a tongue of flame. So I guess it's a matter of perspective.

    Now static charges around the pump, that scares me.

  4. Are you mats not locked down with either the velcro patches or the straps to the seat mounting bolts (depends on the year)?

    I have the little velcro patches on the bottom but they don't stick to the carpet at all. The factory matts are just kind of...floppy looking if you ask me. I really hate floor matts anyway but I guess they are a necessary evil. I would like some crisp low profile looking matts that fit if they exist.

    The little velcro patches need to match up with 4 plastic 'hook' disks mounted into the rug. These disks are about 3" in diameter with a plastic screw underneath. Just screw them into the rug in an area underneath the velcro disks on your mats. With this setup you won't have any more problems.

  5. The car was optioned with the exhaust and there is no on/off switch.

    TP, if the bypass valves are vacuum actuated then wouldn't disconnecting them leave them closed? The valves are located in the middle of the bypass pipes that circumvent the exhaust, so I'm assuming here that they're opened when the electrical relay activates and allows vacuum to the them . Also, if they energize at as little as 27-42 mph, why bother having the bypass at all?

    Not trying to pick a fight (you've probably forgotten more about the breed than I know), just trying to clarify what I should try.

  6. I have a 2001 ‘S’ with the Tequipment Sport Exhaust. The car sounds great from about 4500 rpm on up. I believe this has more to do with the exhaust’s bypass valves than with the engine coming on cam. I’d like to get this great Porsche sound earlier in the rev range without buying a new exhaust system.

    I don’t know how the bypass valves are actuated: mechanically or electronically. Has anyone ever modified the valves to get them to actuate earlier in the rev range? Any ideas out there? Thanks…
