Just use an ohm meter to test the switch.
got it!
Do you know if the glove box has to be removed to get access or can it be accessed without remove the assembly? And do you happen to know the part number
-
If the footwell lights work then the control box "should" be okay.
The microswitch is held in place by this holder (item 23).

thanks! it looks like i have to remove the the glove box to get to that? is there a part number or anyway to test it once i get to it?
-
Sorry, no fuse.
Do the footwell lights work? If so, then it is likely the bulb, bulb holder or glove box switch.
If the footwell lights do not work then it is likely a problem with the VES control unit - re-programming might fix this if it is indeed the problem.
yep, foot well lights work. I don't think it's the bulb/holder as i've tested and they both work (tried it in and from another 997.2).
Where is the glovebox switch? I assume i need to go to the dealer for the VES control unit? would unplugging the battery reset it?
-
sorry, 2011 GT3 RS, thanks!

Does anyone know the fure for the glove box light? the glovebox light stopped working but interior lights still work (i've tried changing the bulbs already and even the housing from another car as i noticed there's a resistor on it) and when i lock the door with the glovebox open, the alarm doesn't chirp so I assume it is not registering that the glovebox is open anymore.
thanks!

Is the radio (part of the PCM) antenna cable disappeared? Take a good look behind the PCM.
this is what the back of my PCM looks like... the plug circled in red is not used. everything is working (radio/GPS)
-
i've had two dealers look at this and none of them were able to get this to work. they said they got the activation codes from Porsche but the functions still do not work.
I was wondering though, is there an additional wire that runs from the sports chrono to the PCM? My PCM has 3 plugs (1 for power, one for MOST cable, and not sure what the 3 is for but it is plugged in) and 2 antennas (one for GPS and second one is unused). Is the unused antenna for the phone antenna? or is this for the sports chrono?
-
is the sports chrono plus package plus actually hardware related or just programing?
i retrofitted the nav in my 997 with sports chrono, but i'm unable to get the sports chrono to communicate with the PCM for the lap time functions. the dealer was able to program the nav to display on the dash lcd screen, but the functions of autolock, DRLs, etc... are not there.
any ideas?

Mine's just developed the same. Same place, same noise but only between 3,000 and 4,000 RPM - strange how it only happens at those revs....
If anyone figures it out, please let me know.
still no luck, but asking around, it seems like it might be from the a/c unit/box, which requires the whole dash to be taken apart...

I just went through my install and you need make sure you get the right parts!
do you have a C4 or C2? C4 takes vertical mounts and the C2 takes horizontal mounts. also, with or without bose? with or without CD changer
I believe the PCM is all the same and works with the Navi, no need to update, but this i'm not sure.
hope this helps!

Thank you! It looks like i have the correct dvd drive and mounts but need a few more hardware to mount the nav drive.
I do not have a horizontal unit for sale. i purchased the dvd drive knowing i needed a vertical mount one. I also bought the pcm paired with the dvd unit.

I just bought a used PCM 2.1 and Navigation for my car. The PCM install within 5 mins and everything is working correctly. However, I'm having trouble with the navigation unit. I believe the 997 S and GT3 (mine) uses the vertical mount navigation and my part numbers below should be for this. I cannot find a space to fit the unit! Am I suppose to remove the plastic cover in the center of the trunk to place the DVD drive?
Navigation drive 997.642.159.01
Bracke 997.642.231.00
Some help would be great! Thanks!
997C4 and apparently your GT3 use a vertical mount in front of the bulkhead. The 997C2 & S use horizontal mount where you have the black hump.
thanks! but where is the bulkhead? am i missing other mounting materials?

I just picked up an 07 GT3 as a second owner. The car is great, but there's a stupid rattle/tapping that sounds like it is coming from the front dash, under the chrono clock. It sound like a wire or plastic plug is tapping against something metal.
I've taken it to 2 dealers and none of them can find the problem and do not seem to be willing to take apart the dash (don't really blame them as it may cause more sounds when returned). I've taken out the cup holders, ashtray, AC vent, radio, and AC controls all to find nothing! I've searched and thought it was the AC vent as it seems like a few people had this before. I did find that the door lock switch does shake and rattle a little but this was not it as I've driven the car with the whole thing out.
Any ideas on what could be loose?
Thanks!
pop out the chrono clock and check, directions have been posted here or rennlist or 6 speed.
already tried that, unfortunately, it's not the problem.

This thread also shows Dension bluetooth install.
PM me with questions.
it doesn't look half that bad! Thanks!
Watch it when you remove the panel with the 12 volt outlet, it's easy to short it out and blow the fuse if you are not careful!! No biggie if you do!
thanks for the heads up! removed the glovebox without a problem! not too bad...
now i have a possible lead, need to test drive tomorrow, hopeuflly it's it!

Since the car is likely under warranty let the dealer/OPC fix it.
i've tried 2 dealers already and no luck. the sound only appears on certain road conditions. oddly, on bumpy roads, it does not always happen. but the sound occurs around where i live and the freeway on travel on most. and with just my luck, the sound was hard to duplicate around the roads near the dealers!
-
It is a bit work... might I ask why you need to remove it?
i was afraid of that. removing to see if i can find my rattle in my dash! it's sounds quite annoying
-
does anyone have a DIY on how to remove the glovebox on a 997?
