  1. Thanks Flying Cat! I get it next week. Can't wait... post some pictures!!!
  2. Yep! I'm enjoying the new engine! it feels much better and the 2 years warranty is also another good thing. B) all the best mate H
  3. Sam: Get a readout of the DME on the supposed "overreving". The DME records each time an ignition occurs in the various ranges, and it also records the operating hour during which the "overrev" occurred, in tenths of hours, along with the total operating hours of the engine. On the early M96 engines, there are only two ranges, on your 2005, I believe there are 6 ranges. The readout will tell you, independently of anyone else's opinion, exactly what is registered regarding the RPM's of the engine. Regards, Maurice. I was told the exact same thing with mine. It depends on the report your dealer sends to Germany but again Porsche are generous with 05 models even with overreving! I would NOT ask for the register now, I would wait and see what Germany says first. Asking for the register might come up as if your questioning your dealers inspection and maybe they will be neutral with your case. My advise to you now is to BE NICE TO YOUR DEALER because their report is critical to getting the engine covered, if they are on your side your chances are higher. Its not over yet, Germany will get back to them with questions and the dealer will have to get back to them. In my case this process took around 1 month and then they had to ship the broken engine to Germany for 'experiment'. In my case also Germany said that they will only cover the engine if my dealer cover the labor (that's what i was told by the manger). Because the car had good service record and I was welling to pay for the pre-owned warranty even though my engine was broken they were nice to me and won me as a customer and covered labor, so I didn't pay anything except the pre-owned warranty. Another advice: Keep a record of everything and be prepared to recruit a lawyer, just in case.. that's what I did but luckily I did not need the lawyer at the end PM me if you want more details All the best and keep us posted. It will be ok Hamad
  4. I had the same feeling in my stomach when I read your post like the one I got last year nearly same time!! It was IMS problem with my 997 05.. it was out of warranty as well.. someone in this forum (not sure if it was Loren or someone else) told that Porsche will replace the engine free of charge and I did not believe them. But guess what? around 3 weeks after engine striping and photos sent to Germany I got the news that I will get a free brand new engine all together! Car was stopped for nearly 2 months but I was happy that all was covered free of charge and I got a brand new engine... Someone told me that time that Porsche are generous with 05's with engine failure even if you are out of warranty! It is true. It is unpleasant news indeed, I know exactly how you feel... all the best mate and let us know how it goes. Hamad
  5. Now I understand. The Porsche logo/lettering must be on the 'back side'. Yes it is, the one I sow previously had the logo in front and back but I couldn't find it online. Hamad
  6. Here are some pic's. Its phone pictures so might not be as good as reality. I like it B)
  7. It lights up when you break while the rear spoiler is up
  8. At the rate our taxes will be going up after our friends in Washington figure out how us taxpayers will have to line up to pay off the debt & national healthcare we'll have lots of these 'tax disc holders' on our cars. :censored:  :censored: lol @ AP - just be happy you're not in canada... 7-8% much better than 15% ! I still dont know what that thing is? you put candy in it? can you take a pic with it in place on the car? Sam Sure will do when it arrives. It supposed to be here sometime within the next 10 days. H
  9. I have an 05 launch car and had the IMS problem. Engine was replaced free of charge and I can't be happier with the car! I would buy the extended warranty just for the peace of mind. Goodluck! H
  10. I am sorry I misspelled it. Its 'badge' holder In the UK they call it 'tax disc holder' (or that’s how its named in the web-site I ordered mine from). It’s used to stick your tax badge on the windscreen. The 'Porsche tax disc holder' has a Porsche logo on it :clapping: I've seen it on another car and it looked good, plus the sticker I used in the past leaves marks after removal! Hamad
  11. Thanks for this Paul! I assume its fine if I fill mine with nitrogen for normal use? not for track I mean? Many thanks Hamad
  12. unfortunatly I didnt take a picture! :( I will post one if I see it again. Do you guys have any other suggestions? Found it finally and ordered it :D check it out
  13. I heard about using nitrogen in tires. is this recommended and is it really better then the normal air you get at gas stations? worm weather/roads is an issue for me too and car starts to act weird with the grip sometimes. appreciate your advice, Hamad
  14. unfortunatly I didnt take a picture! :( I will post one if I see it again. Do you guys have any other suggestions?
  15. Hello all, Just re insured my car and got the registration etc. done. Few weeks ago I sow a registration budge holder on a 997-2 in a car park somewhere here. It was aluminum looking round budge holder with Porsche logo. It looked really good and seemed that it wont leave the marks you get from the normal side sticker. I tried google/ebay with no luck. Have you ever seen something like this? any other recommendations? Thanks, Hamad
  16. it is a burnt disk, but I have been ejecting it fine the past couple of weeks. I have tried with a dental pick but it seems the CD sits slightly lower with respect to the opening so would have to get under it somehow to pry it up towards the eject roller... how did you get this to work? and do you have a PCM or the older style unit? Thanks Sam Use something thin and flat to guide it out while using eject. If the disk is low, then go lower. You just what to insert something smooth a centimeter or two. Try a flat plastic card, like an un-embossed credit card or a thin putty knife. Happened to me in another car and I used another CD while ejecting. Thanks, Hamad
  17. I read this post this morning and it made me drive my car to work, on sports mode all the way! :drive: I am thinking of trying my car on the track sometime but is there anything I should worry about? (e.g. tires, brakes, oil, maintenance)
  18. There's a rev limiter that prevents over-revving on up-shifting through the gears, but one has to be really careful in down-shifting or mistakenly selecting 3rd when aiming for 5th after pegging the tach in 4th, which I've done, but fortunately caught my mistake in time. A good (well, fun at least) way to determine the rev limits when down-shifting, is to note the rpm drop when up-shifting from a particular gear. Can't tell you anything about the Sport Mode usage, but probably the only thing that suffers is your fuel economy! Cheers This is helpful advice! The only advice I got from Porsche when getting my car back (after new engine installed) is avoide down shifting on high speed ('don't down shift from 6th to 2nd!') Thanks :renntech:
  19. I have heard this many time. Is it really better for the car if you drive it hard? can you guys please explain more?? Since I had the intermediate shaft problem and got the engine replaced on my MY05 C2S I've been very careful how I drive it and always trys to drive on low RPM. I push it rarely and only drive it on weekends please advice. Thanks H your advice is really appreciated Sure: moderate RPM's during the break-in period, but with the new motor and its revisions that addressed the IMS problems, you can then drive it even HARDER! I'm guessing that higher revs at longer periods means reduced sludge and better lubrication all around. Besides, these are honest-to-goodness SPORTS CARS! Don't be afraid to DRIVE it! I'm gonna track mine this Sunday at a high performance driving class. You'll be the first to know if I had to walk home! Cheers! I get the point! :) I have to say after having the engine failing last year, I am definitely very gentle with it but still enjoying it. Do you have any specific advice when driving it? (e.g. I read in other posts that over reving especially in gear one is not recommended and down shifting on high speed is also something to avoid) I love driving it on sports mode but I'm not sure how much is too much? Is there any harm in over using the sports mode? Thanks
  20. Get an extended warranty, so you'll sleep better. Also, increase your oil/filter change frequencies to 5-10K miles, avoid frequent short trips, and don't be afraid to drive it vigorously in the higher rev ranges. If it's gonna blow, it's gonna blow, but the motors are happier and seem to be more reliable when driven hard. It's more fun too. Cheers. I have heard this many time. 21. Having the intermediate shaft problem is the best thing that happened to me (after receiving a new engine for free of course) :) car is running perfectly so far (10K km after new engine).. I wouldn't drive without warranty though. Goodluck and dont worry. H
  22. Yes, buy a MY2006 or newer - the engine problems were sorted by then. I have an 05 and its running fine, but can never drive without warranty.. engine failed last year and was replaced under warranty all the best
  23. They are from Porsche... Originally ordered that way... I think they are the Porsche 19" sport wheels in black... Mine are Porsche 19'' sport wheels. they were originally gray but I had the dealer to paint them in black for me. it cost around $700 in here.
  24. Happens to me as well (05 C2S) I also experienced it in other cars in the past (Mustang and Vette). I usually press the clutch again and engage in 2nd then take it back to 1st. it always work. to be honest im not bothered by it unless its a serious problem??
