  1. Nothing to worry about with the air suspension.

    Only issue I had was the compressor failing after 150,000 km and replacing the compressor was not expensive.

    The Turbo engines have been bullet proof as your research will find, the piston slapping and cylinder scoring issues seem to plague the non turbo motors, attributed to the fact that they do not have piston cooling oil jets.

  2. I havent carried out the mount replacements so don't know if it can be done without engine removal for the turbo.

    Below is the statement from the maintenance manual 10-35-19.

    This task can only be performed in the Cayenne S (M48/00) if the engine has been removed or suspended on the body. This description covers suspension on the body.

    The engine must be removed on the Cayenne Turbo (M48/50) → 100119 Removing and installing V8 4.5 l engine - section on "Removing". The turbochargers are removed next. → 213021 Removing turbocharger - section on "Removing" [9PAAF1 9PAAJ1]→ 213021 21 Removing turbocharger - section on "Removing" [9PAAE1 9PAAE7].

  3. Yep, the engine mounts are hydraulic and they do settle as gbratk mentioned.

    The engine then transmits its vibes to the chassis without the dampening of the hydraulic mounts.

    Cayenne S engine mounts can be done without engine removal.

    Cayenne turbo needs the engine removed to replace the mounts.

    Regarding the idle drop, the new mounts mask the vibration felt during the sub idle condition when coming to a stop.

    The new mounts do not fix the root cause of the sub idle condition.

  4. Sounds like you may have to inspect and confirm the disturbed plumbing inside the tank whilst changing the filter has indeed been installed securely.

    There is no "primary" pump on the vehicle.

    It's either left or right.

    With the activation of drivers outer door handle - left pump primes fuel rail.

    starting procedure: left and right pumps on

    Fuel tank qty >60 L

    right pump on

    full load: left and right pumps on.

    Fuel tank qty < 60 L

    left pump on.

    full load: left and right pumps on.

  5. Common issues include front control arm bushings, cardan shaft centre bearing support, water pumps, coolant pipes, ignition coils.

    Transmission is solid except for the hydraulic solenoid valve body unit.

    Change the valve body unit when transmission starts to do hard shifts.

    Recommend changing transmission and drivetrain fluids at half life to extend life of components.

    The M48.00 engine had some issues with cylinder scoring and piston slap due to no piston cooling oil jets being fitted.

    The turbo M48.50 variant however has the ccoling jets and has proven to be bullet proof.

  6. Both flanges as in one under the left fuel pump access cover and the other under the right fuel pump access cover.

    If you were to change the updated pipe they mention, you would have to access both left and right fuel pumps thereby requiring 2 new flanges and sealing rings.

    BTW the left side has the fuel filter, the right side has the fuel pressure regulator. Could be a good idea to change the filter when accessing the left side.

  7. From the notes i have left: with the activation of drivers outer door handle - pump 2 (left side) running starting procedure: pump 1 (right) and 2 (left) running part load fuel tank < 60 L pump 2 running full load fuel tank < 60 L pump 1 running part load fuel tank > 60 L pump 1 running full load fuel tank > 60 L pump 1 and pump 2 running both together. Hope it helps.
