  1. .........I coasted through 5 lanes of fast traffic, stopped and put it into Park, but it didn't engage Park and kept rolling......... I could not engage any forward, reverse or park position.

    Apart from all the other issues going on with the 4 wheel drive system, selecting the transmission into Park is a mechanical function of the selector lever via a cable to the gearbox which engages a pawl into a gear inside the transmission and thereby locking it.

    If you indeed selected transmission into Park and the car kept rolling, there is a mechanical failure between the tranny selector lever and the transmission.

  2. I had the same issue recently.

    Servo failed due to a fault that had developed in the control module.

    Had the dealer change both the servo and transfer case control module.

    There is a TSB recommending both be changed if year model is 2004 or earlier.

    The servo motor and control unit have been updated since 2004.

    No coding required when changing either part.

  3. The fans can and do run with engine off. I have heard mine on several occasions.

    Here's why as explained in the Porsche Service Information Technik section 2 page 45.

    Fan Run-On

    To cool the engine compartment the fans are switched on with the ignition OFF, depending on coolant temperature and the last driving cycle (map on fuel con- sumption). The switch-on threshold is between 90 °C and 93 °C and running time is between 15 seconds and a maximum of 13 minutes. Once fan run-on is concluded, the fans will not start again with Engine OFF.

    In the Cayenne Turbo, the electric coolant run-on pump, which provides cooling for the turbocharger (to prevent oil coking), is activated through this function. The run-on pump is located behind the left front wheel wheelhouse liner. In addition, this pump is activated on the Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo by the air-conditioning control module to utilize residual engine heat.

  4. Normal to see a cupful of oil collect in that pipe.

    My service advisor says it is due to the breather circuit of the engine etc.

    I get both left and right pipes drained every year at the annual service and oil is always evident in the left hand pipe, very little if any in the right.

    Nothing to worry about turbo seal wise, as long as oil isn't evident in your exhaust tailpipe.

  5. Fault P0481

    Fan control output stage 2 - open circuit/below limit value/above limit value

    Diagnostic conditions

    • Time after the engine is started longer than 10 seconds

    Possible cause of fault

    ♦ Break in wiring in power supply to fan module 2 (small/to the left)

    ♦ Short circuit to ground in control line to fan module 2

    ♦ Short circuit to B+ in control line to fan module 2

    ♦ Fan module control module 2 faulty

    ♦ DME control module faulty
