  1. I have a Spec Boxster that I'm wiring some extra items in (cool suit, blower, camera, etc) and want to tap into the fuse panel from the back rather than the front as it has been relocated in the footwell and I don't want any dangling fuse jumper wires that could get accidently kicked out.

    I have several empty slots in the fuse panel that I want to use. What I'm looking for is some fuse terminal inserts that I can insert into the empty slots in the fuse block from the back (simlar to those pictured below). These are the terminals that each prong of the fuse slides into from the front. I cannot find a Porsche part number or any reference anywhere to these terminals. My dealer says they are only available in very large quantities. I could buy a salvage fuse block, but I only need two terminals. I've even tried a Volkwagen part that I was told was simlar, but it did not fit correctly.

    Does anyone have any ideas where I get a couple of these for my 986 Boxster fuse panel?

  2. Thanks for the link, logray. I'll definitely look at that part. Loren - do you know if there are any major challenges to know about ahead of time if I try to replace this part myself. It appears that it is just a lot of unbolting and re-bolting. I'll use fresh screws and nuts and get an alignment afterward. Also - do you know where I could find the appropriate torque values for the nuts?

  3. I have a 99 Boxster with a cracked suspension piece that is termed either a “Right Rear Wheel Carrier Inner Support F” or a “Side Section F” piece on the online parts sites. It is shown as item #3 in the diagram below.

    Two questions:

    1. The part on my car is physically stamped with two numbers:

    986 331 152 7R

    MBF 34102

    I cannot find that part number anywhere – all the online catalogs insist the part is either:

    986 331 052 06 – about $500 (ouch)

    986 331 052 08 – about $700 (double ouch)

    So I can’t tell which if the two above I need (06 or 08) and also can’t figure out why the part number stamped on my actual part does not show up anywhere?

    2. Does anyone know how difficult this part is to actually remove and replace? It is bolted directly to the tub and I don’t know if it will be just a simple matter of unbolting or if the attaching stud (part #11) will need to be replaced, etc. Is this something I want to attempt myself or should I take it to the shop to do? Obviously after everything is replaced, I’d get an alignment.

  4. I've searched for a while and couldn't find the answers to my questions, so I apologize if I missed them...

    I've got a non-e-gas accelerator pedal with a hinge that is ripping free of the base unit. The hinge is broken and the base unit screws are also stripped so it looks like I need a new base unit and hinge at a mimum, so I may have to just buy and entirely new aseembly. My questions:

    1. I've seen several DIY's (with pictures even) for the e-gas version of the unit, but not the wired-throttle version. Is the throttle cable difficult to remove and reattach to the unit?

    2. When I replace the assembly, will I have to re-adjust the cruise control or throttle cables or do they just pop back in with no adjustment required?

    3. Loren - can you tell me which part number I need? I've seen many part numbers online for mutliple versions of the assembly and it looks like they may have been revised over time. I have a 99 986 with cruise control and 5-speed.

  5. I accidently filled up with regular unleaded (87 octane) rather than the recommeded super unleaded (91 octane). I know the computer will adjust the timing so that the engine will run on lower octane (albeit with less HP), but will the prolonged period of running a full tank of 87 hurt the engine in any way?

    The 996 owner's manual says that the car will operate normally on at least 95 RON (I think 87 octane is about 91 RON?), so that doesn't sound good. Should I siphon out the gas?

  6. A couple of weeks ago I was tracking my 2003 996 at a DE at MSR outside of Ft. Worth. It was a very hot day (104-106) and during one of the afternoon sessions as I was driving through a high speed corner, my check engine light came on (solid). I drove back to the paddock and one of the other drivers had an ODB reader and it reported three codes:

    P0300, P0301, P0306

    I looked them up on the net and found that they were random misfires, cylinders 1 and 6. We reset the codes, but I wasn't going to risk taking the car back to the track. I drove it to a local dealership the next morning (the CEL light never came back on). The service manager told me that if the light wasn't blinking and didn't come back on after being reset, then the problem was probably just a random event, possibly related to the high heat and track conditions (maybe a bit of vapor lock) and not to worry about it unless the CEL light came on again.

    Since then, I've driven the car another 200 miles with no CEL. Any ideas what could have caused this? I do have an EVO cold air intake system and I noticed the air filter is looking pretty dirty - could a dirty air filter cause this?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated - not sure if I have a problem or not...? I have another track event coming up in September and want to make sure everything is in good shape before I go.

  7. Thanks, Loren. Is it just a 3rd party air filter or is it more than that? It appears that a large part of the normal air intake housing has been removed and replaced with the smaller air filter.

    Also - what is CEL and what kind of sound difference does the unit make? It's interesting that you found a flat spot between 4-5K, because my car pulls very hard through that range.

    Sorry for all the simple questions, but I'm a Pcar newbie...

  8. I just got my car back with a new set of side skirts intalled. It looks great, but there is a small gap between the edge of the skirts and the side of the car. It appears to simply be the thickness of the double-sided tape used to affix the top portion of the skirts to the car, but I'm not sure.

    If any of you have these skirts installed, can you see how large your gap is and let me know (also let me know if they were installed at the factory or if you had them installed after market)...

    I've posted a couple of pictures of the gap below...

  9. I have a beautiful new 996 that came with PSE installed without the switch or the electronics (in other words it is on all of the time).

    I absolutely love the sound of the PSE, but unfortunately due to a medical condition I have called "hyperacusis" (which is an increased sensitivity to loud noises), the PSE is often too loud for me and I have to wear earplugs when driving.

    As a result, I think I will eventually have to have the electronics and switch installed so I can turn PSE on and off. However, that will require a lot of labor and expense and I'm worried about creaks and rattles due to much of the interior having to be disassembled to install the switch.

    While I'm deciding, I'm curious if there is a way to just manually disable the PSE directly on the exhast itself by closing the valve so that it is off all of the time? Given that PSE was installed without any electronics, is that even possible?

  10. The older Aerokit Cup style side skirts are held on with epoxy using adhesive kit 000 044 000 37. The newer style Aerokit Cup II use only double-sided tape as they clip over the existing skirts.

    Here is the parts list from the Aerokit Cup (older one) for just the side skirts.

    So I assume there is really no difference between the 99-04 cars where the skirts mount and that any of these 996 narrow body skirts (cup and cup II) will fit?

    Also - any idea what the difference between the G2X part numbers you gave above and the 000-044-802-05 part number listed in the Techquipment catalog?

    Finally, am I to understand that the adhesive kit (000-044-000-37) includes the retaining strip, templates, screws, u-clips, adhesive film, etc... that you list above?

  11. I'm trying to determine the correct part number for the older "Cup" style side skirts to order for my 2003 996 Coupe. These are the older, more rounded skirts as compared with the newer GT3 or "Cup II" style skirts which have the razor-sharp edge.

    My dealer tells me that the part numbers for the rounded "Cup" skirts are 99655998001g2x and 99655998101g2x, however he says those are only meant for cars up to MY01 and that they don't come with any mounting hardware.

    The Tequipment catalog lists another number of 000-044-802-05 for what appear to be the rounded skirts for MY02 and newer cars, but the dealer is unable to find much info about them in his computer (he's going to have to check with Porsche directly on this).

    For those of you who have MY02/03/04 cars who have the "Cup" rounded skirts, can you tell me what part numbers you ordered? Was any additional mounting hardware required?
