  1. Hi Michael, I contacted Spec cluth via e-mail and had no reply. Is this usual or do I just have to keep on e-mailing them? Regards Pieter
  2. Hi Michael, Thanks for the reply and the website link. I am really considering the stage 3 clutch as it is the same price as the stage 2. Why would the stage 2+ be more expensive? (i see that you recommend the 2+) (I read what the Spec Clutch website says but all I could interpret were that they were all good!) Should I buy the 996 clutch or the Boxster's? I guess the Boxster's as the flywheel is on the engine? Should I fit a light weight flywheel? Does my Boxster have a Dual mass flywheel? Regards Pieter
  3. Gentlemen and Ladies. My 3.4l engine is on it's way from the USA to South Africa for my MY97 Boxster!!!! A few questions please? 1) Best clutch to use? 2) Any gaskets that I must pre-order so that the swap can be done without to much standing time? Let me see: 1)I have somebody with PS2 to programme my DME. (spare DME comes with engine with programming codes) 2)Have spare harness so that I can get the pin for the extra wire to the resonnance valve. 3)Have 1 week leave to do the swap. 4)Have clean overall. Have I forgotten anything? Regards Pieter 1997 2.5l Boxster (soon to be 3.4l) 5 speed Manual Guards Red
  4. Thanks everybody for your replies. I will install the 3.4, find somebody to programme my DME and hope for the best. Regards Pieter
  5. Hi Bill, Oops, I have just read in Todds write-up:"some MY97 DME's cannot be re-programmed"...... Worst case scenario is then: 1) Extract my cars security codes from the existing DME, or get the codes from Porsche AG. 2) Get the 996 (.04) DME and programme it with my car's secrity codes. Is my assumptions correct? Regards Pieter
  6. Hi Bill, Thank you VERY much for your reply. I have studied Todd's swap in detail and that is exactly what I want to do. It seems that all swaps are from MY98 up and none for the MY97. I was just alarmed by somebody saying that the .02 was not re-programmable... did'nt make sense to me that my DME was not programmable while all the other's were. I understand that I must stay within the same base DME. (The part number of DME of the engine that I can get is 996.618.601.04) So the .04 is just a little "newer" than the .02? Thank you much again. Pieter PS. my Boxter has a 5 speed and not 6 speed as mentioned in my previous post...
  7. Gentlemen and Ladies, I can, for the life of me, not find any information on if I (or somebody with a programming tool) can re-programme my Boxster's DME Part number: 996.618.601.02, for a 1998, 996 3.4 engine. The 3.4 engine is for sale and I would love to install this engine into my Boxster. I know that the 3.4 engine has the DME: 996.618.601.04. In South Africa the dealers and mechanics are very reluctant to help in this regard unless you commit for them to do the swap. I searched RennTech (and the internet) and could only find that somewhere, somebody mentioned that they are not sure if the DME part number ending with the .02 can be re-programmed. Please, any direction on where I can find information will be dearly appreciated. Regards Pieter '97 Boxster 2,5, 6 speed manual.
  8. Gentlemen, '97 Boxster 2.5, 6 speed, Guards Red, 200k km (123k miles) on the clock yesterday. (Previous exact same model with 249k km (154k miles) on clock before a taxi drove right in front of me from a side road and the car was totalled) Had the engine replaced @18k km (11k miles) under Porsche warrenty (porous block problem) (Both cars) Normal Porsche services by Porsche SA every 30k km. (18k miles) Replaced all 4 brake discs @ 100k km (62k miles) (Both cars same at same km's) Replaced coolant expansion bottle @ 100k km (62k miles) (Both cars at same km's) Replaced front radiator fans @ 159k km's (hot here in South Africa) Replaced Climate control fan @ 159k km's (hot here in South Africa) Tyres, brake pads and that is that! Cheapest cars I have ever owned. Trying to get to 300k km's dodging taxi's and other strange occurances on SA's roads. (potholes the size of California, donkey's, bicycles, rocks, gunmen, street vendors etc... lol.) But it is time now for the 3.4 996 engine! Regards Pieter.
