  1. Hi there

I've just pick up a cheap set of litronic headlights on e-bay that came without any bulbs.

My question is what bulbs do I need is it just a pair of xenons for the main beams i.e. can I use any of the bulbs I currently have in my stock head lamps? Or do I need lots of new bulbs? Where is the cheapest place to source them from?

Also is there anything I need for retro fitting to my 99 Boxster? I don't need the headlamp wash or the levelling kit.

    Thanks for your help.

    Duncan

You will need set of Porsche/Philips Xenon bulb, part number is 999-631-036-90

who sold you that item? name the seller...

  2. One thing to note - Porsche OEM rotors have a grey rust proof paint on the hub. Zimmerman does not. After a few weeks, you can see the rust on the zimmerman hubs through the wheel trim - a bit ugly. I heard one suggestion to paint the hubs with high temp rust paint. I haven't done this - interested if anyone else has and what brand they used and what prep they needed to do. I don't need the paint flaking off at the wrong moment.

I had to paint my zimmerman rotor with VHT high-temp paint.

    Looks great now.

  3. When you say engine rod bearing, do you mean the crack shaft bearing, or the con rod bearing??

Either way, are these not just shall's that can be replaced??

part 12 is rod bearing and it will crack. easiest way to find out is bring your car to any local auto repair shop and have them drain your engine oil. Look inside of your oil filter if you see any metal debris.. If you have any metal particles, you know.. your engine is going bye bye.

You can have porsche authorized repair shop work on this, but cost of repair is almost same as getting new engine. Porsche lowered price of boxster engine after so many problems with these engines. So they knock out $10,000 off and bring it down to $7000.

  4. Hi everone, hope you are all well.

Just after some help / advice.

I know this is gard to diagnose with out seeing / hearing the car, but wondered if there are any ideas that is might be or any tests I can do.

Basically I am getting a knocking sound from the engine, it only seems to be at idle, and is more evident if you get on the floor and listen from under the car. Its kind of like the knocking noise you get when you start stalling the engine?

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Many thanks

    Russ

It's been cover few times. Sorry for the bad news.. but it's time for new engine.

  5. I know that most people will tell me not to use the front plate; however, that is not an option. My front plate holder keeps coming off. I have replaced the shims and screw twice and it does not seem to hold. Does anyone have any sugestions for keeping the front plate holder on? :cursing:

Apply Plastic Dip ($9 or less), wait for least 6 hour to dry out then put front plate again.

    Good luck.

  6. Sounds like you're having a great time being obsessed! From your post I can't tell if you are more obsessed with the car or the sound system and electronics you're installing. Or maybe obsessed with being obsessed! :-)

Probably obsessed with being obsessed... :D

I am going get some parts from Performance Products in Sherman Oaks after my oil change is done in the morning. May be I can check out your setup and I will bring my video camera.

I've been doing DIY to my car and help smistry007 for his 996TT Billet Diverter Valves from EVO.

Also I introduce him to Danny at "Upon3Racing" in Pasadena for his future projects.

  7. Hahahaha... I am fine.. I figured you are busy with your kid and.... your other kid (996TT)

Infact I took a new job in studio city OPS manager and been very busy. But weekend is for me to spend time with my little baby.... (986) Just added Valentine 1 and need oil change tomorrow. Then, install short shift from B&M and Momo knobs with boots too. I definitely want to check out your Pioneer setup. specially your AMP install... b/c I am not far behind that project. I am going pioneer all the way. ;)

After that, may be H&R coil and Bilstein shocks.... pretty much endless... YES! I am also obsessed..

    :P

  8. Hi all,

Since I'm about to change pads, I've decided to do some other things too (notably change the rotors too - for same-size, preferably cross-drilled). I've seen that a lot of people seem to like the Zimmerman rotor upgrades, but I was wondering if anyone had actually heard of any failures using these rotors, especially the cross-drilled ones? I'm not sure how Zimmerman construct these (can't find a manufacturers website for them!!), and whether they drill or cast the holes...

Also, it seems to be "general knowledge" that some German automakers use Zimmerman for their OEM rotors - notably Porsche and BMW - but does this mean that their aftermarket rotors are built to the same OEM quality standard? Or do manufacturers only use Zimmerman for their "low end" rotors, and someone like Brembo for their high-end rotors (effectively implying that Zimmerman aren't the best quality)?

Ultimately I will be using the car for spirited AND lots of track driving, so I don't really want the rotors to end up cracking on me... I've heard that Zimmerman does heat treat their rotors for stress relief, and also chamfer/radius/countersink the holes to remove sharp edges, but this is unconfirmed (and looking at a rotor I could only tell if they were chamfered, but not if they were heat treated)!

The other concern I have is that, although I don't want to spend huge amounts on rotors, the Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors are pretty darn cheap (generally around $112/each)! So, I'm not sure if this reflects on the quality at all...

Anyway, comments/suggestions welcome! If someone has a website for them, that'd be great too!

    Thanks!

    Shash

I've been using Zimmerman rotor since January. So far I have no problem and with lots of street braking..

One thing I noticed is it cools down much faster than solid rotor. Using good quality pad is also PLUS+

  9. I took some video today, I almost burn my transmission... I can still smell it.

You will need Quicktime 7 with MP4 support.

Let me know what you think of sound.. it's much heavier sound than old stock exhaust.

Not too loud after 1000miles I put on it.

I don't know about anyone else, but I cant get to the link for some reason....

I took it down... too much traffic to the server..

  10. Did a search but need a little more info....

Just got new alu- look door storage lids and want to install them myself. I popped off the handles to change to alu but am not sure how to get the door lid off- I see a pin at one end of the inside hinge. Do I just pull the pin out? Having trouble grasping onto the pin.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Sameer

I can help you this weekend.. I had mine fixed last year.. so I know how..

may be you can show me about my new short shift replacement while we are working on yours.. :D

  11. Hi guys,

My wear indicator just came on so I need to change the pads. Looking at the pads it looks like the rears have plenty of meat, but the fronts are a little low. I am about to leave for a 2500 mile round trip, so this is pretty annoying (although I guess it's best it happened before we left!). Anyway, I'm in the bay area (near San Mateo) and I just want the front pads. Which pads should I get and where can I get them fast - no time for mail ordering (I leave Sat AM)? I called the dealers just to see what they have, and they want stupid money for standard pads...

    Front Sensor In-Stock? Total

    Carlsen $142.96 $18.14 Yes $194.03 all in

    Rector $143.03 $24.34 Yes $207.53 all in

    Sunset $87.49 $10.18 Yes $107.85 all in

Sunset are obviously the cheapest (by almost half - dealers around here should be locked up for extortion!), but they are in Oregon - which is a problem. I'm thinking of not getting the wear sensors since most people don't use them anyway. I'd like some aftermarket pads, but nothing too expensive - just equal-to, or better than, OEM. When I start going to tracks here (later in the summer) I'm probably gonna get some Pagid Orange for track-use-only.

    So, any recommendations??

    Thanks!

    Shash

You can find Textar pad, which is own by Pagid and I like it very much. For street use and cost is very reasonable. Currently I am using brembo/porsche which I bought from dealer just before I had trip.. just like you.. my brake warning lights came on this past April and replaced it 3 days before trip to San Francisco from L.A. I paid $150 but I am not too happy with it.. often squeaking sound and I wish I had time to look for Textar like I did before this brembo. :(

I am waiting for new Textar pad which I bought from eBay anyday... :D

  12. I have a 00' 2.7L I was poking around in the pass. footwell and there was what appeared to be a small speaker hanging under the dash. I just bought the car a month ago. I thought it might be a alarm speaker, but any ideas would be great! Thanks

    Pictures?

  13. That looks great on a silver boxster, I would like to get some black mesh for mine, something that blends in with the car. I cleaned out mine after 40,000 miles I am not the original owner but it looked as if nobody cleaned it out before me, I even found a lottery ticket in there from the state I bought it in. This is definetley something that should be done if mesh is not installed. Looks great toddwess!!

anyone have any advice on how to reduce the size of a picture in bytes to add as an attatchment to a post?

if you are using photoshop or image ready, resize image resolution to 640x480 72 pixels/inch and save as jpeg and select FORMAT options to Baseline Optimized, Quality between 7 and 5.
