  1. I think I see. So what if my goal is to have the engine compartment fan turn on automatically, a little earlier (at a slightly cooler temp) than it normally would? Would connecting pin 85 of the engine compartment fan relay (relay # 8), to pin 85 of one of the radiator fan relays (say left, high, relay #20) achieve this (I know it's a long wire run)? Would it hurt anything? how do these relays work, regarding pin 85? I see from the wiring diagram that that goes to the DME (on both the rad fan and engine comp fan relays). Is pin 85 normally no grounded, then when the DME decides it wants to, it connects pin 85 (of whatever relay) to ground, then that sends +12V to pin 87 on said relay?
  2. Thx. That's good info. I'm loking for something automated. how bout that link I showed about making low speed radiator fan speed equal high speed.
  3. I'm interested in doing this too. I see this: http://www.ppbb.com/boards/ppbbphp/showfla...;Number=1509504 But it's for a boxster (will it work with a 996) and I don't fully understand it. you run a shunt wire in the relay panel then reinstall the same relays?
  4. This is the diagram I'm referring to. Is the engine side the lower left or the upper right? I, myself, cannot tell. http://picasaweb.google.com/rollingglue/Tm...941699897561938
  5. Awesome, thx I'll try it. I'm hoping since I plan to use LEDs, the draw should be low and shouldn't blow anything.
  6. ;-) I just cleaned the radiators (and boy they needed it). 'got the 3rd one, cause it's Tip.
  7. 'looking to lower temps in there a little. How bout adding a resistor after the sensor?
  8. Ah, thanks Loren. I actually used that wire already when I did the Ipod mod. No prob to use it again, of course, but does it dim? If not, I guess it's no big deal, the footwell lights will just be on during the day also...
  9. Hi. I'm looking to install some interior lighting (did search) in the footwell area. i don't want a switch and I'd rather not go up to the dome light. Is there any way to tap into an existing 12 V wire down there, that's already connected to the other (e.g. instrument cluster, other lights on switches) lights?
  10. Hi. I'm looking to replace some coolant hoses on my 2000 C2 Tip (engine code M96/04). I see a nice coolant hose diagram in PET with all the part numbers. This may sound silly, but, which end is which? The picture doesn't show the engine or radiators so i can't tell which is the radiator side and which is the engine side.
  11. The one that shows you how to chk the wires on the engine fan connector?
  12. Hi. I wanna check mine. I remember seeing the TSB for that, but now I can't seem to find it.
  13. Thanks. Well lucky for me it's leaking on cyl 4-6 (right side, U.S.) where the manual says remove four screws, pull out oil extractor. Whereas, for the right side, one must first remove the exhaust, cyl head cover (which requires a special tool)..... I guess I'll just remove it and replace the seal.
  14. From the manual, this is (somehow) called an oil extraction pump (looks like a simple cover to me): "Fit oil extraction pump. Use new sealing ring and new micro-encapsulated hexagon socket head screws. Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)" What does micro-encapsulated mean? Can I just unscrew these four screws, remove the cover, replace it with a new seal and new screws?
  15. It's not leaking from that gold plug in the pic. It's leaking from the round, camshaft cover (held on by 4 torx screws), above the gold plug, not shown in that pic. looking at that round metal cover (attached to the cylinder head cover), i don't see why it *wouldn't* leak ;-) Is this a typical prob?
  16. OK, thanks. I have a compressor but that blows air (not sucks, as I imagine you would need to create a vacuum) and that thread that Loren pointed me to (thx.) explains that this thing works by creating a vacuum?
  17. Hi. I saw from another thread that this may work for us, when we replace the coolant: UView 550000 Airlift Cooling System Leak Checker and Airlock Purge Tool Kit Does anybody actually have it? Does it fit our coolant tanks?
  18. Hi. I think I have a slight oil leak from one (well both leak a little, Porsche doesn't use a gasket there, huh.) of the cylinder head covers. Is it a do-able job to remove the cover with the engine in the car? I guess I'll check the torque on the reverse torx screws in the problem area first...
  19. FWIW: my engine (2000 C2 Tip) has an "AT" in it, and I can tell, it's all been replaced: alternator, PS pump, A/C compressor, block, heads, ...).
  20. that sounds like something. I keep a couple of bandaids in the car and that's a good enough first aid kit, for me ;-) so if that thing comes with a nice, small, plastic box that mounts nicely in the trunk....
  21. Hi. My spoiler sounds like it's struggling when it closes (bad squeaking). Is there a DIY for lubing it?
  22. Hi. I don't have the CD changer in there, so i was wondering if they sold some kind of small storage cubby?
  23. Hi. For my 2000 C2, Tip, I'm looking to buy some coolant hoses. In PET, there are always, like, three or four different part numbers for the same hose. The only diff seems to be this "Model" in the right most column. It has weird numbers like M 398.
