  1. I do not mean to preach or sound like a jerk because I do not mean this comment in a bad way but before you mod up your car you should invest the money in more track time/schools. That will improve your performance far more than bigger brakes or whatever and will be improvements that you will carry with you no matter what car you drive. I say this because I wanted to do all sorts of stuff to my '99 but after getting some seat time I discovered that the limits and capabilities of a bone stock Boxster are well beyond my skill level at this point so I need to become a better driver first. This is made abundantly clear when better drivers in "lesser" cars can drive circles around you. Maybe you do have tons of track time but for me, this is the best revelation I have had in terms of driving performance enhancement.
  2. Hope you don't mind me chiming in on this one. First off, $300 for a set of Lits is great. I got my very lightly used set for $1000 with all original wiring unsued still in the wrappers and the original parts boxes. Are you replacing '03 lights? If you're intending on using pre-'03 housings then you're going to have one amber headlight and one clear one. The Lits are amber-free on the outside lower (signal light) portion whereas the pre-'03 ones have that part a solid amber. That is also contingent upon whether you can swap out housings. Good luck.
  3. That's the ticket Jeff. Hopefully I'll get mine soon.
  4. I tried the denatured alcohol removal on an old broken off mirror cover and used a soft toothbrush with denatured alcohol to to avail. I also wound up with a mess. Luckily it was on test piece. Maybe the sticker come off better when they are new and haven't been exposed to lots of sunlight and heat. If you really want to cover them up do what I did. I got some black contact paper from Michael's art supply. I cut out pieces to the shape of the decal and slapped them on. It's not the most permanent or elegant solution but it covers up the airbag stickers. Arthur K: Unfortunately here in the litigious US of A, the SRS stickers are painted on the mirror covers. It's stupid, I know. Heck, if a fat person can sue, unsuccessfully, Mc Donald's for making him/her fat, why not sue Porsche for not warning them about airbags not working in lieu of seatbelts?
  5. From what I have seen on actual cars rather than pictures, there are two straps with Velcro that wrap around each wiper arm to hold the front down, two straps that go under each mirror, two straps that go under each door handle, and two straps that go into the trunk. The straps were a soft nylon material and the ones that go into the trunk were felt like material. I'll post details about the one I ordered when I get it in about 10 days.
  6. I made up my mind and ordered one from Califorina Car Cover Company in Chatsworth, CA. I don't think they make them, rather they buy them from Covercraft. They are $60 and made of "Stormweave", which is fine for my climate. I had seen their cover on a Boxster at an autocross and knew it was a Cal Car Cover because it had their logo printed across the front. I no likey that so I called them and they can sell them sans advertising. Just thought some of you might like to know if you're like me and don't want to provide free advertise for companies. Thanks for the advice.
  7. Thanks for the info. I actually had one of those "canoe tonneaus" but never installed it. I got it for $60 from Suncoast down in your neck of the woods. (Who would pay almost a G note???) I checked out a Boxster that had it installed and it was more work than it seemed worth. The drilling of the dash and some metal body panels scared me and the inability to use the windstop was a big deal breaker. I returned it unopened. I too live in an almost always warm environment but I want something to keep the dust and bird crap out of the interior while the car is parked top down. I think I'll go with the Cal Car Cover one that is actually made by Covercraft. Weathershield material or Stormshield seems to be the right fabric for my climate.
  8. Summer is coming and I want to get a cockpit cover to protect this interior without having to raise and lower the top. I found one on this site made from "Noah" fabric: Cockpit cover Any idea if this particular one is well made, well priced, a good one to buy? Has anyone bought from this e-tailer? I also found one at this site made from "Stormweave" fabric: California Car Covers Any other suggestions for places/manufacturers to go with? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
  9. Thanks for the feedback about my suspected RMS leak, especially Toolpants. (Recap: After my car sat for several days, a small pool of oil was discovered on the passenger side, immediately ahead of the rear tire, flowing over from just inboard from the pool.) I got the car up on a lift today and poked around a bit. Having pretty much ruled out the RMS leaking oil, the it was the valve cover that could have been leaking oil. (I have been told that the valve cover leak is not uncommon.) The only place that I could see any oil leaking out of was the oil pressure sending unit. There was no oil at all on the side of the engine from the valve cover. I would guess that if the valve cover was leaking oil that I should be able to actually see it running down the side of the engine but I saw nothing. The oil around the sending unit looked quite fresh and clean. There wasn't much but there was a think, shiny film of fresh oil. (Sorry, no pics due to a technical glitch.) What I am wondering is whether this is a common thing. I hear that it is common on BMW's. Has anyone seen this? Any opinions?
  10. Thanks Jeff! The last time I was under the car I remember seeing the tray under the engine but I don't remember its exact configuration. Can the oil, if it is coming from the RMS, drip down onto the undertray and then run out the right side? Or if it's from the RMS does it tend to drip straight down unimpeded? What is your opinion of running the car so long as I keep the oil topped up? I don't really want to cancel the track school but of course I don't want to kill my car either. Thanks again.
  11. Sorry if this is an oft-posted question but I'm in a tiny bit of a panic. What are the symptoms of an RMS leak? Is there visible amounts of oil leaking? If so, where would one expect to see it? My '99 has 50K miles on it and I noticed this morning there was a small pool of oil collected on my garage floor just in front on the rear passenger side tire. This is the first time I have seen any oil on the floor. The car sits mostly as it is my weekend car and has been infrequently driven lately. (No time to enjoy the Boxster.) I bought it with just over 48K miles on it and it had a final pre-warranty expiration check up at Claridges. I'm obviously a bit concerned but there is some extra concern as I am supposed to track the car in a couple of weeks. TIA
  12. I'm asking this question for a friend with an '03 Boxster S. His CD player stopped working and he got a message "CD TEMP" on the display. What does this mean and is the remedy to go get a new one under warranty? Thanks all.
  13. Mike, I sent you some info to your e-mail. What did you replace your console with? Are you selling your original one? Kevin
