service manual calls for new sealing rings for all the drain/inspection/fill plugs
i've gone through all the parts catalog but no luck finding them. any one knows how to get those? :thankyou:
-
The Porsche liquid tire sealant actually works well. Always keep a fresh bottle in your vehicle -- the bottle lasts for five yeas or so and then you replace. Sunset sells them. Liquid sealant and the electric or on-board air-compressor should be all you need for the vast majority of punctures and flats.
Also, I found a Cayenne spare wheel/tire and all the mounting parts (exactly like above photo) on craigslist for $110. Fits like a charm -- 2004 Cayenne S w/subwoofer, no aux battery under subwoofer. The spare is stored not-inflated so you'll still need to inflate the spare with a compressor (before mounting). And it only has enough tread to go 50 miles at low speeds.
hi can you tell if your subwoofer was downsized (manufactured after 06/03) ? thanks.
-
oops, the spare may not be useful for me. The subwoofer is too big to have enough space for the spare tire installation...
It's my understanding that not only do you need the small subwoofer, but you cannot have the second battery either. That second battery saved my behind once. Initially, the second battery was standard, then it became an option. The sub was downsized around 06/03 production, but many 04 C's have the large one -- mine does as it was built in 03/03. There has been much debate over this issue, and the net result is that some believe that the second battery is more important than the spare, some believe otherwise. Remember, there's always the goop. Anyone used the goop yet? -
service interval for transmission is 200Kcan i change atf in a lazy way: without opening the cooler line, simply change out the atf a few times to get rid of most of the old fluid?
well, engine oil change interval is 20k, but i don't run the oil more than 5k in my ctt
-
the installation should be fairly straightforward
1, the control unit is located under the dash near the foot brake
2, one antenna for each wheel under each wheel's housing liner (a little bit more work than the control unit)
3, ask a tire shop to install the wireless sender unit for all the wheels
4, ask a dealer to reprogram the control unit and related components
now just need to verify if the factory wiring exists for the control unit and antenna
total cost will probably be around $700 (assuming you can handle step 1 & 2)

in my area only the dealer can cut the blade and reprogram the remote.
you can try to talk to a dealer to see if they can cut/program a key blade/remote which you may be able to buy somewhere online for a lower price without the original key

Mine has a subwoofer in the trunk instead. And to make things worse it doesn't have a TPMS. So I am just wonder how people usually cope with this.
Someone stole your spare I would think. In mine, the spare is just on top of the woofer in the trunk, bolted down. Of course the P.O. didn't bother to put the air-compressor back in, and no I don't have the air suspension.
For future notes, the touareg aircompressor and the cayenne ones are exactly the same, touareg one is 75 bux or so vs 150 for the cayenne one.
Thanks man. It looks like some Cayennes just don't come with a spare. Found a spare tire installation guide online:

I think you just need to follow the instructions in the user manual.

I did take TCS off about once or twice a week for fun...
Wow, Cayenne shouldn't be a dedicated offroad machine. Being in dirt once or twice a week may be too much for its tranny. You should at least service your tranny on a regular basis.
I think you will probably be able to find a used tranny from a junk yard for about 2k ~ 3k.

As wvicary stated "Japanese transmissions fails as well" you have the best example, Cayenne automatic transmissions ARE Japanese made.
wow, im amazed
-
great, i will get the I7K4 set including the control unit, antenna, and sensors. :D
Does your 04 CTT have any prewiring installed from the factory for the TPMS or is this going to be a completely new installation?
i heard that there is an open connector where you can just plug in your control unit. you will probably need factory software, PST2 or PWIS to activate it.
i will check the wiring before i actually place the order.

Can i use ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid instead of ATE Gold Brake Fluid Type 200? So it will be easier to spot the new fluid.
-
just did the brake bleeding job. yeah, even 15 PSI is enough ^_^
the old fluid was so clear, i couldn't tell when the new fluid came out
it's embarrassing that i almost used up two liters of ATE fluid. not sure if the last caliper was bleed completely since i stopped early in order to keep air from getting into the brake line...
-
Thanks Loren. I assume the larger the part# is, the better quality/design the part should be
I guess I will just get the I7K4 with part# 955 618 160 13
-
Hi, the service manual is calling for 2.0 bar bleeding pressure which is roughly 30psi
however the motive power bleed tool use direction says not to exceed 20psi
im confused...
-
Any difference between them? either is about $340
The latest part # for I7K3 is 955 618 160 06
The latest part # for I7K4 is 955 618 160 13
After finding another nail in one of the tires, I am going to add TPMS for my 04 CTT just for peace of mind
-
just make sure they are 948.602.104.03 / 05 or newer
the old stuff is cheaper

the ignition coil problem is so easy to fix by yourself...

"Adjustment of Inlet Camshaft in relation to Crankshaft, Bank 2 – Signal Implausible"
No CEL yet. Is this pretty bad or just benign? My 04 CTT drives just fine. Should I take it to the dealer to fix this?
Possible cause of fault
♦ Dirt in oil circuit
♦ Sealing strips on inlet camshaft adjuster faulty
♦ Oil pressure too low
♦ Mechanical fault in intake camshaft adjuster
♦ Magnetic hydraulic valve faulty
Just changed the oil about 400 miles ago with M1 0w-40...

I have 2004 Cayenne with 78K miles and I would like to change the transmission oil and the differential oil. Has anyone done that? Also, what oil is recommended?
In the past I have found that Motul or Redline oil worked better in my Bimmers and Benzs then factory oil. So, any recommendations?
Also, should I change my fuel filter? Where is it located on the V8 Turbo??
Thanks in advance for your help.
Mitul
I think Porsche uses Mobil 1 ATF 3309 in all Cayenne's auto tranny based on my research.
However you have to idle the engine and make sure the tranny temp is 40C to get the correct fluid level
Too bad that I haven't found where to check the tranny temp in my Durametric software.

never mind. found detailed info about it.

Have you tried an OEM battery? They are about $200 each. (95AH, 110AH etc.)
