  1. Just got finished changing the sparks on my 2002 cab, personally I do not know how anyone can do this without taking the mufflers off. It took me about 5 minutes per side to drop the mufflers. The outer most plug on the passenger side was still challenging with the muffler off, with it on I do not see how it could be done. If you want to change the plugs with a minimum of cussing and fussing, drop the mufflers. Easy breazy

  2. my 04 CTT was shaking/vibrating when you step on it and turbo kicks in. I thought it was may be one of the engine mounts or tranny mounts, but when I read one of the threads here, I noticed someone had a same problem and it turned out to be their coils.

So, I decided to check my coils and sure enough, all of them had cracks on them. So, I decided to look at worldpac to see how much they were there and I got a great deal. They were $14.25 a piece. Amazing deal. If you need them, check worldpac. They are OEM BERU parts.

seems you have to be a dealer to buy from them.

  3. 2002 C2 Cab 59K

I saw a few posts a while back and am having a hard time finding them. The listed things to look at during a 60k service, I believe they were cam chain items, tensioner etc.

does any one know the posts or can someone point me to them?

Just looking for extra stuff to look at when i do my 60K.

Is there a top service called out? I live in Ventura and my top goes up and down quite a bit :)

  4. I have just installed a new [aftermarket] regulator via instructions here and at rennlist [also posted this question there]. Not a hard task at all.

But, I find that the travel downward is short by ~2 inches. Up stop is good as is fore/aft in the channels. I have looked via searches here/there, but can't seem to locate a procedure to adjust the lower stop. I notice a strange screw on each of the window clamps which would move the clamp up or down. Is that the vertical adjustment? It is in the most upward position. It looks like a reverse [male] Torx screw. If I move the clamps down via that, won't it also affect the top stop?

    thanks

    99 coupe

there is a plastic stop at the bottom of each track that needs to be removed.

  5. Did a pretty complete search in the 996 section for this, and found nothing.

    I have a 1999 996 Carrera 2, blacker than night.

I came out of a hotel in Vegas and find my hood wrinkled, looked like a 340 pound wrestler sat on it.

Supposedly it isn't that noticeable to people unless I point it out, I suppose because it is black.

So now I am faced with a dilemma, should I:

    1. Replace it with a carbon fiber hood...since it is black, it should look pretty good.

    2. Get the stock hood repaired (bondo?!?!)

    3. Replace it with a new stock hood.

If anyone thinks I should get a carbon fiber hood (which is what I am leaning towards) does anyone have any good info on what to look for in one, or better yet, where can I buy one that will fit my car correctly.

I would recommend getting a new factory hood. $661 from Sunset Porsche. Use Sikkens paint and it will match fine. I "bent" the front fender on my 02 996 cab and with a new fender and matched paint, you cannot tell.

  6. Yes, that will put less stress on the other mount.

Just a little off topic, but still on engine mounts, I have a few questions I hope you could shed light on.

I've read alot of old threads about busted mounts from jacking the car from the engine.

It seems to me that from the design of the engine carrier and the mounts themselves, in normal circumstances the engine pulls down on the hydraulic filled mounts, and when jacked up, would put them under compression instead.

How would one be able to bust the mount under compression? The casing on the top side looks extremely robust and should constrain the compression easily. It seems more likely an issue if the top mounting bolts of the mounting can take the weight of the car, pulling the engine mounting up from the engine bay area.

I didn't hear any pop or other weird sound that would indicate a problem. Pretty straight forward. The engine moves quite a bit when you jack the car up though.

  7. Loose and/or remove the left rear motor mount - lower the engine using a jack just enough to let the tank clear (less than 2 inches).

Hi Loren, not to be totally dense, but which one is the motor mount? The one in the back (rear of car) or the one that the suspension hangs on? I loosened the one on the back and nothing happened. Are there any gotchas? Thanks! this has been amazingly frustrating.

  8. Ok so I read the 996 C2 coolant tank replacement, however it is for a model year 99. Has anyone replaced a tank on a 2002 C2? I have worked on a lot of cars and I cannot figure out how to get the tank back in. There seems to be no way of fitting the tank back in without taking the upper bracket off, but then there seems to be no way of getting the upper bracket back on. The only way, and I repeat, ONLY way I can guess on how to get the tank back in is to lower the engine. How do you lower the engine? Where are the motor mounts? There are two in the back and there seems to be two that the rear suspension hangs on.

The tank was just an absolute joy to get out, the lower fitting hits on the fuel injection rail. I wish I knew some German curse words as I sure could have used them. The little spring clamp on the lower hose had rotated and it was near impossible to get off.

    Please help.

Well on the plus side I finally figured out why they put 18mm sockets in sets. Any one want a low mile 996 cab? This car is way too hard to work on, time for a Corvette
