Cris - If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I would greatly appreciate you looking into what you did with the HU purple wire. I have essentially done the same as you with the camera (power, ground drain hole) and I know the camera is working fine b/c when I put the camera rca into A/V1 or A/V2 , select A/V on the HU, and put the car into reverse the camera video works fine. Just to confirm, your system works as follows: while moving forward you are listening to radio, you put the car in reverse, the video on the HU changes to the rearview camera, when you put the car into another gear the video changes back to the radio screen. If this is the case, I could really use your assistance with the purple wire as I have otherwise recreated your set-up. Thanks!!!! - Jeremy

Cris - I am very pleased with the DNX-9140 and attempted to install my back-up camera today. I can confirm the camera is working fine, b/c I get video in A/V 1 and A/V 2 when the camera is hooked-up to these inputs. When the video rca is hooked into the back-up camera, however, I am not getting any video. My assumption is that this may relate to not having the reverse wire hooked up. Did you ground the reverse wire (purple) or connect it to another lead? I would really like to be able to put the car in reverse, have the 9140 automatically switch to back-up camera and then go back to radio/ipod once I put the car into another forward gear. FYI - I have the back-up camera grabbing power and ground from the reverse lights. Thanks for your assistance! - Jeremy

OK - mirror is back to functioning fine. I think I moved the mirror position switch during the install and that is what caused the mirror not to adjust. I moved the switch in the other direction and it is working fine now - just thought I would leave this as a post in case anyone else experiences the same problem - Jeremy

Cris - Thanks again for your assistance - I am almost done with the installation and will be moving on to skinning. I did not hook up the reverse wire from the head unit. An unexpected consequence has been that my passenger mirror no longer adjusts when going in reverse. I am not sure if this is based on the aftermarket head unit, the disconnecting of the battery or something else. I have been searching several forums for an answer without success - so does your mirror still adjust? Thanks - Jeremy

Perryinva - I have been trying to finish the install and have been away from the PC. By removing the stock Becker head unit, my alarm system now thinks that the center console has been tampered with, but is due to the sensor wire no longer being connected to the Becker head unit. You can accomplish the same affect by leaving your center console ajar as previously suggested - Jeremy

I am in the process of finalizing an aftermarket head unit install. I am aware of the brown/blue wire and what is required to stop the horn from honking upon alarm activation. I personally like the audio cue that the alarm is armed and have not found any other posts describing any concern that I am not willing to live with (e.g., I am concerned that I will leave my trunk open). Is there any other major cocnern (an eventual need to clear fault codes, alarm will not be fully armed, etc.) of which I should be aware prior to just leaving it to honk? Thanks RoastDuck88 - I am actually looking to replicate the delay the headunit shut_down after the key is removed - this keeps music playing until you open the door. I believe constant in the wiring harness would require me to turn off the headunit to turn off the music and keep it from drawing on the battery. Please advise if you are aware of something to the contrary. Thanks again. If you are referring to the power, you can try wiring it up to "constant" meaning power is available even after the key is turned off. Decks are normally wired to the accessory on meaning if the key is on the "assesory on" position then there will be power supplied to the deck. I hope this helps.

I am almost finished with the installation of a Kenwood DNX-9140. I really liked the feature I had with the Becker head unit of music continuing to play after removing the key until I opened the door. I would have thought that this worked off of a switch triggered by the opening of a door - but I seem to have lost this feature with the new install. Have others experienced the same with an aftermarket head unit - any solutions? Thanks - J

Cris - Perfect!!!!! You have saved me at least an extra hour of work. Do you have any recommendations as to placement of the mic, voice command button or ipod cable. I am undecided on the mic, but was considering the bat wing below the climate control and the ipod cable to the locked console. Many thanks!! - Jeremy

Cris - Thanks for your comments - they are very helpful!!! I also am not concerned about viewing the behind me as I am going forward. Is it correct to assume that you do not manually need to switch the video input in order to use the camera when going in reverse - in other words, does the Kenwood automatically toggle to the backup camera when you put the car in reverse? I would like to access the reverse gear wire on my 2001 996 with memory seats. I have read the threads that suggest accessing this wire under the driver's seat. Given that my passenger side mirror adjusts when I put the car into reverse, is there no way to tap into the reverse gear wire closer to the door/mirror than having to remove the driver's seat ? I am looking forward to swapping out the becker for a Kenwood DNX-9140 in my 2001 996 :D . I would like to add a back-up camera during install. My understanding is that the following is preferable: 1. Mirror or reverse image capabilities 2. great than 90 degrees - prefer 110 - 120 3. CCD is better than CMOS 4. Night visions is important, especially if I go with color camera 5. I am undecided as to whether to go wireless I would appreciate any thoughts on the above or suggestions for brands/models that others recommend :D :D . Thanks - J

Key FOB still not working

Many thanks Loren. I did try reversing the battery - I simply flipped the battery and reinserted it for a few seconds - please let me know if that was not the correct procedure. I am getting a flashing red light in the FOB, it just isn't opening things remotely. -
I have read the posts in the forums and have tried inserting the key in the (i) door and manually unlocking then pressing the FOB, and (ii) turning the ignition on and off. One FOB works correctly, the other opens manually but will not work remotely. I just purchased the car and PO said that it was synced at one time and that he just had the battery replaced by the dealer. Is there any benefit to trying to unhook the battery or should I resolve myself to pay the dealership? Thanks - J
