I have a weird question. I've checked on the net and it is not clear.

When we buy the COBB Accessport for a 2014 Boxster S (981S), do I have to download the current car ECU map and send it to them to be modified and return to me after or do we simply order the COBB Accessport for the 981S and it comes with several maps like Stage 1 91 octane, Stage 1 93 octane, Stage 2 91 octane, Stage 2 93 octane, etc?

For example, this year my 981S is bone stock with Afe Power high flow air filters, PSE, Fabspeed true X-pipe exhaust tips. Normaly, Stage 1 93 octane should do the job.  Next year, I plan to add headers with 200 cell sport cats, then I guess the Stage 2 93 octane should be just fine.  Do these mapings arrived on the COBB Accessport or should they be bought separatly ?

If you are buying the system used, i cannot give you any insight on what the previous owner is including in the sale. If you buy it first hand from us I can guarantee all needed hardware is included and will be covered under our Lifetime warranty. 

 

We changed the design because customers reported droning in the 2-3k RPM band. The new Gen. is drone free and sounds incredible. Much more worth it in my opinion.

I have a question.  

If I deceide to make an offer on the used Fabspeed Valvetronic system (generation 1), is the retrofit of the anti-drone tubes is something that can be performed ?  If so, would it be very costy ?  This system is on the best sounding on the market, but I cannot take the chance to buy it knowing it will drone a lot between 2000-3000 RPM on higher gear.  But if the anti-drone tubes can be retrofitted that might change the situation, depending on how costly it would be of course.

I’m thinking about replacing my 2014 Boxster S stock exhaust (non PSE) by an aftermarket exhaust (non valve controlled).  

But, I still want to be able to take Sunday afternoon quiet rides...  I would like something that is relativly quiet at low RPM but gets really louder at high RPM.

I’ve check lots of videos on Youtube but I cannot decide.

The Borla type S seems to be too loud but sounds great. The AWE Tuning seems to be a bit quieter, but not sure. The FVD Brombacher sounds really good (seems to be the best one). The Agency Power is louder.  To be honest I really don’t know... 

What will best suit my needs, but unfortunately without any performance improvement, is the PSE with valve controlled but it is too expensive considering that it is necessary to buy new exhaust tips.  The muffler Itself is about the same price as the aftermarket listed above but the installation is more expensive considering the vacuum tubing and the valve controller unit that have to be installed in the engine bay (a bad place to work especially in a Boxster 981). And as it is necessary to buy new exhaust tips, the best ones are the true x-pipe from Fabspeed (they are way less restrictive than the awfully designed Porsche exhaust tips with two mufflers trying to fill each others...). But here in Canada these exhaust tips are about $800 (including all sales taxes).

Do you have any advise !

What you are overlooking is the simple fact that most PSE post delivery installations never hooked anything up as the default position for the valves is "loud", which is what people wanted the PSE for in the first place.  So who's valves are on the exhaust system is pretty much irrelevant.  We have probably installed a couple dozen PSE's over the years and I can only remember one that the owner wanted fully hooked up; and later even he eventually said activation of the valves was a waste of money.

The default PSE position is LOUD !  This is a really good news, I was not aware of that !  That means that if the muffler valves are not connected to any valve controler (the PSE button in the console or an aftermarket one like the Fabspeed or the Soul ones) they will be by open (loud) by default.  So If I want to be able to close them I will only have to add an aftermarket valve controler and perform that easy installation to be able to open or close the valves by pressing a button on the remote control.

Yes, it's what I think too.  

But to be honest I'm surprised, as a PSE retrofit at a Porsche dealership cost about $6,000 (canadian) when a PSE install (without the consol's PSE button and the button programming) at the local shop using an aftermarket valve controler unit (like the Fabspeed one) will cost about $3,300 (canadian).  Nearly half the price...  I'm surprised that no one ever tried that.  Considering that the Fabspeed valvetronic, or any other valved system, is a direct bolt-on for those who already have the PSE, you unplug the hoses from the PSE valves and plug them on the Fabspeed valvetronic's valves and it works fine, so why it would not work on the other way (PSE exhaust with Fabspeed valve controler using Fabspeed remote control to open or close the valves). In theory, I cannot see any reason why it would not work as fine.

Fabspeed John, the valvetronic system for sale is the first genetation product, the one without the upper pipe (seems to be in pretty good shape).  Is it a big issue ?  What are the advantages of the second generation of the product over to first generation ? 

Fabspeed John, I really need you advise on this.  Is a first gen product worth it or should I wait ?  I can get it for abour $2200 CDN (it would be $1750 USD to compare).  How this system hold in place, I do not see any mounting brackets ?  Thanks.

WOW, this thread is open since two days and not a single answer so far.  Seriously, nobody ever tried to install a PSE muffler using aftermarket valve controler !  It is a half cost job compared to a retrofit at a Porsche dealer, which make it an interesting option to evaluate.

I got a quote from a Porsche dealer to install a PSE (with the consol button and programming) for my 2014 Boxster S. It would be around $6,000 (canadian dollars), I consider that it is too expensive.

So I'm wondering if the PSE (the mufflers only without button in console and programming) can be installed using an after market valve controler kit like the Fabspeed one ? ($2,600 for PSE mufflers only, $300 Fabspeed valve controler kit, $400 to install. Total : $3,300

In the Fabspeed kit info they tell "For use with Fabspeed Valvetronic Exhaust systems only". But in theory, I cannot see any reason why it would not work with the PSE.  A valve is a valve isn't it ?

Note: All aftermarket valvetronic exhausts work fine with PSE hardware (button in console and PSE valve controller), so why the other way (PSE with aftermarket valves controller) would not work.

Any idea ?

Hello all !

Here in Canada/Quebec prices are very high and sale taxes at 15%, so everyting is expensive.

I'm looking for an exhaust system to replace the stock exhaust (not PSE) on my 2014 Boxster S.

Here are the options :

1 - The most expensive, Porsche PSE installed at the dealership including button in console and programming = $6,800

2 - The middle one.  Porsche PSE with and aftermarket valve controler = $3,500 plus $500 to install it.

3 - The cheaper.  I have the option to buy a used but never installed Fabspeed Valvetronic Exhaust for about $2,200 plus $500 to install it.

So I'm wondering how this exhaust (Fabspeed Valvetronic) performs compared to stock exhaust.  

When valves are close, is it very louder than stock one ?   

Any drone when valves are closed ?

Yes I'm sure and few minutes ago I got confirmation from the actual owner that since he bought the car brand new in 2014, he never washed the exhaust tips...  He was washing the car every time he used it but he never cared about the exhaust tips.

I've checked his car option list (using a VIN decoder) and there is no mention about a black exhaust tips option or sport exhaust tips.  So I'm 99% sure they aren't black.    But I do agree they look flat black.

I'll begin by washing them with water and car cleaning soap using a gentle brush (like the one we use for wheels) and I'll see what they look like and determine which product to use.

I've checked in 2014 Boxster S standard equipment in case they were talking about the exhaust tips, but unfortunatly nothing about it.

I guess that my newbee question will be easier to answer than my last one about amber orange dye.

I'm buying a pre-owned 2014 Boxster S with stock exhaust.  The initial owner NEVER cleaned the exhaust tips, so they are really ugly.  They are so dirty that they look black.

I'll get the car tomorrow and I want to buy the appropriate products to restore these exhaust tips promptly but I don't know if the tips are chromed ? stainless steel finish ? or polished alluminium ?  

Whitout that info, it is difficult to buy the appropriate products.

I bought a pre-owned 2014 Boxster S with full leather interior agate grey / amber orange.  The driver seat is a little decolored on the lower side (the color fades) and I would like to improve it, but I cannot find anywhere the appropriate color (amber orange) dye.

So, is someone know where to buy Amber Orange leather restorer ?
