  1. Exact same thing happened to a friend of mine. I believe it is a spring axel with a torx end that attaches to the railing that moes the seat. Porsche will only replace the whole seat bottom.

What you can do is remove the axel, find out where it is broken, and weld it back. This will work fine but you need to make sure you keep the spring for flexibility.

    Hi,

I have a 2005 997S with sport seats. The motor that moves the seat front to rear has two small axles that connect to the gears that move the seat. One of those axles has gone bad on the passenger seat. I am told that you can only replace the axle by replacing the entire motor assembly.

Does anyone know where one could just purchase these axles?

    Thanks!!

    Mark

  2. Drives beautifully, I cannot feel a huge difference from the old engine since it was it great shape and not a ton of mileage...

However, there is an auxiliary noise that I wasnt hearing before, sort of a winding noise on the lower rev range... 1500 to 4000 and only when in gear. If it doesnt go away I will have the dealer look at this again since it bothers me.

The # will be on your invoice Hamad (it will note the OLD ENGINE serial as well as the REPLACEMENT)

    UPDATE:

Heard back from Porsche this morning after 8 days of suspense; VERTICT: Porsche will cover the engine, parts, fluid costs for me - I have to pay labour + $100 of the engine cost which will entitle me to 2 years of warranty on the new motor.

Cost are $3500 after taxes + the initial $1100 I had to pay to get the engine dropped/inspected.

your comments are appreciated as always guys.

Congratulation on new engine! Which one did you get exactly? Do you know?

  4. woohoo! can you update you registry plz?

I have an 07 GT3 with nearly 36K miles on it. I have had a sharkwerks by-pass installed on the car since about 12,000 miles and an OEM RS LWF since about 16,000 miles. These are the best mods I have ever had on any Porsche I have owned, period!! I can't imagian not having this combo on my GT3. I owned my first Porsche in 1962 and this Gen-1 GT3 is by far the best one so far. The only thing that could make it better is Sharkwerks 3.9 conversion, which will be installed on my car later this month!!! :D
  5. Thanks guys... especially the ones who told me not to worry... I would have lots twice as much hair had it not been for your ongoing advise and support. :renntech:

I shall speak to the service manager when I go down to pick up the car late next week as they promised (which is pretty quick in my opinion). My service rep has been exceptionally nice and prompt in my case and has made me feel like I matter to them as any owner should, he even mentioned they will be covering most of my rental costs for the few weeks even though its just a BMW

I will bring up the fact that i am not comfortable paying the initial dismount charge since it would need to take place either way as porschedr mentioned... any other suggestions or recommendations on how to bring this up with the dealer will be appreciated. I'm just relieved I'm spending $4500 instead of 23k and getting a new engine + 2 years of warranty out of it!

  7. I hope so guys... I'm supposed to hear back today...

The dealer has been overly nice to me in my case and keep telling me not to stress until I hear back from Germany as well - I am keeping my fingers crossed.

If it comes back negative I'm going to try calling 800-PORSCHE myself and if that doesnt work write a letter... but the dealer is definitely on my side, they really like me

    Sam

Excellent advice Hamad. Tekky, hopefully Porsche will do the right thing and replace your engine. Seems the norm for the 05's
  8. Got a call from the Porsche Techs... Intermediate Shaft is broken.

They have sent the info to Porsche (Germany) waiting to hear back on if they will provide financial assistance.

Isn't the shaft issue very common with the MY05 ? They said over-reving has caused the issue but not in the high ranges - the rep said they may or may not come back with a positive answer so I'm just praying they don't blame it on something I did.

  9. Thanks a lot for your detailed reply... I think I need to take one out for a few runs around the block to see if I can live with the stiffness; I'm not a track junkie so I would not be buying it for that purpose. Perhaps a turbo would be a better fit?

I'm still waiting to receive a call back from Porsche on exactly what happened to the engine. see my post in the 997-1 carrera forum which I will update as I go.

My engine blew on my 05 c2s this weekend, its at the dealer and may cost me a pretty penny to get a new one in there, an option would be to do an upgrade that way the dealer will work with me... thoughts on the vehicle above?

Nice car but you could order a new one today for less than US$162,260 (today's exchange rates) even with a $20k markup (which I don't think you have to pay these days). I could be wrong but since the new RS is about to be available, these very high premiums being asked over a regular 997 GT3 are probably unobtainable from buyers.

By the way, how did your motor blow? Oiling problem?

I do have a winter car but the porsche is/was my daily driver, will this be uncomfortable? I do enjoy the roughness and always drove with stiff suspension mode on in my c2s. How different is the RS from the regular gt3?

The GT3 or GT3RS is much stiffer than a C2S in sport mode and lower to the ground. Will it be uncomfortable?--not to me but I do have to be careful on the lousy roads in Massachusetts. BUT, and this is simply my opinion, buying the 3 or 3RS is a needless waste of money if you are looking for a daily driver rather than a track car. In addition, since there is no weather sealing underneath the car (that's why GT3 variants have a short rust-through warranty in the States, anyway), driving the GT3 in winter will rapidly shorten its life span.

Differences between a GT3 and GT3RS can be found with a search but the big items are the slightly wider track in the RS, lightweight flywheel, and rear spoiler.

    any comments are welcome.

Your best bet is getting a crate motor replacement from Porsche for your C2S cab. Unless you are a track junky AND don't mind driving your winter car more during the shoulder seasons, I suggest you stay away from the GT3 and GT3RS.

  11. Add me to the list.

I took my C2S out on a road trips this Sunday; fun day towards the end of the evening as we found some good roads to let her rip. Out of one of the turns I heard a clunking noise coming out of the back of the car, pulled over thinking maybe something lose or a splash guard came off the bottom and is dragging. Found nothing. Drove for another half a mile where the noise didn't worsen but definitely wasnt healing either.

Pulled over, called a tow straight to the Porsche service center. Engine gone.

Car is 3 months or so out of warranty, the rep told me they will try to ask porsche for assistance but there is a chance they will come back negative.

I am losing my mind as the appx cost of a new engine + labour is around $22k.

I paid $60 for the car and its got less than 30k miles on it.

all thoughts and comments are appreciated. They are pulling the engine out today to diagnose it and see what was broken (to me it sounds like a broken valve or cylinder head and you can definitely hear one of the cylinders hitting all over the place...) - besides that a couple of days before I hear back from Porsche. Losing my mind over here.

    :(

  12. Front Pad Set (different part numbers for different years) -- US MSRP $365.92

Rear Pad Set (different part numbers for different years) -- US MSRP $385.03

You don't want to replace the ceramic rotors though - about US MSRP $4000 each!

    Holy crap...
