  1. Hello,

    I'm selling my GT3 997 rims and I know that they fit on a Carrera.

    The problem are the tyres: will 295/30/19 (carrera size)fit on a GT3 rim? :huh:

    OEM wheels: 8J*19ET57 - 11J*19ET67

    Sport wheels:8,5J*19ET55 - 11,5J*19ET67

    GT3 wheels: 8,5J*19ET53 - 12J*19ET68

    8 to 9.5 * 19 rims will fit the 235 35 R19s tires without problem; however.....

    10.5 to 11.5 * 19 rims will fit the 295 30 R19s from tire size charts so assuming my charts are correct, your rims are too wide for the 295 tire and would need 305 or even 315s...

    what size tires did you have on the back?

  2. Hey All,

    I am looking to buy a 911 soon. I live in Minnesota and would be using it as a daily driver. In my price range I could get either a C2S or a C4 (there are C4S in my price range but few and far between) The question I have is if the PASM standard on the S makes the driving experience so much better in warm weather that it would be worth my choosing it even for winter driving (PASM is an option on the C4 but I have only seen that option on a C4 once)?

    I know that there are people who live in similar climates who drive C2's as daily drivers--and manage in winter. Of course I would be using snow tires. My attraction to the C2S is for the extra power, and the PASM. The C4 would make the winter driving far easier, but would I long for the S version in warmer months?

    I would appriciate any of your thoughts on the choice between these two porsches.

    Personally, as an S driver I wouldn't give up the S and the options/extras that comes with it for a 4 - thought if you are going to drive it during winter :o then it could definitely come in handy. But the again if you are going to grab a set of snows it will make huge difference in handling on the 2S. I have never driven mine on snow so cannot comment on that.

    I do enjoy the PASM a lot, and the additional horse power that comes with the S.

  3. Okay so I have been looking around and currently have access to the following with fair pricing:

    1) OEM porsche exhaust system including the sport exhaust tips

    2) Borla Performance Cat-Back System with 3.5in Borla Tips

    I can get them for virtually the same cost shipped to me, so my dilema is which to pick? I like the fact that you can turn on/off the sport exhaust for the quietER drive at nights and certain routes/company and the tips look good as well imo; however, the Borla gives you increased horsepower but stays on constantly and sounds quite different.

    Questions to the techies on the forum, my car comes equipped with the spors chrono plus package, will the installation of the OEM sport exhaust require additional wiring to the dash for the sport button to open/close the manifold valve or is this already pre-wired with the sports chrono ?

    I just bought a 997 MY 2007 C4S Cabrio with Sport Chrono Plus, but I don't know if the sport exhaust were fitted. If I press the sport botton I can hear a change in the sound, which become definitely louder and bold. Are there any other ways to check this feature?

    montego is right, if your tips look like the pic I have attached you do have the sport exhaust especially if you hear the 'ROAR' after you hit on the sport button.

  5. Hey guys,

    Just want to share this video my good friend put together showing clips of our last track day. The Macadamia 997 PDK is my car. The GTR and the STI was being driven my a F3 driver (man i hate to say it but the GTR is an amazing car). During the "playtime" between the PDK and the GTR, we were a bit cautious in twisty parts of the track but on areas of the track wherein we can really push the car... we try to go all out. What surprised me the most, if you look into 2:28 of the video (in the main stretch) my friend told me considering the GTR was in my slipstream, and that the GTR had 145 more hp, he couldn't seem to overtake me (and he was trying to)! We were trying to recon why...and we ended up with a conclusion that the hot weather affected the turbo power of the GTR and likewise since we only have 96 octane fuel available, the 530hp of the GTR wasn't being maximized.

    Without being bias I have to say PDK rocks! :jump:

  6. have just made an appointment with my Porsche dealer to go in and do the hand-over reset, cost $65. Will update this thread with results

    :o A good dealer would not charge for this obvious warranty/Porsche fault.

    That $65 is the least of my worries, they are going try and get my 'stuck' CD out of the PCM if not replacement is $2600 for the complete new unit! I say bull... my warranty was over 04/30/09 car has 25kmiles

    The solution seems to be having the dealer do something called a "hand over reset".

    Does anyone have any more info on this "hand-over reset" I'm having the exact same issues (mentioned in another thread). Kind of glad they're not separate issues, never-the-less still a problem.

    What do you want to know?

    Basically they just run a program the PIWIS that inventories the control units in the car and resets them to their new car delivery state. It is a no brainer.

    Leaning towards a manual 2005 Carrera; anything thing that should make me think twice, or look at 2006 instead?

    Lastly, I would appreciate input on after-market warranties - I've seen a bunch of different companies (US Fidelis, National, etc.) on TV these last few weeks - google searches tell me bad things. Is there anyone out there with such a policy that has filed a high value claim with good or bad results?

    Yes, buy a MY2006 or newer - the engine problems were sorted by then.

    If an '06 is out of your range, doesn't hurt to look at the 05s so long as it has (or you buy) a warranty. Not speaking from personal experience, but I made sure my C2S had a warranty (CPO) and would've bought one if it didn't. After seeing some of the failed bearing, d-chunk and other lovely pictures of grenaded low-mi engines here it was imperative.

    For your warranty choices, ask your local OPC sales guy for a brochure on what they sell. They'll mark it up $1000 or more, so talk them down to something reasonable or buy it directly if that's possible. Going with the OPC's choice of warranty means you're less likely to get hassle if your car is towed in dropping oil and parts.

    I second everyone's opinion. I currently own a 2005 CS2, and it runs perfectly fine with 35,000km on it (haven't had any problems with my engine), however after everything I read on the internet I wouldn't be caught dead without a warranty on it!!!

    I have owned an 05 C2S cab for about 3 weeks as well, engine and all other drivetrain comps run perfectly, few issues on having

    1) heated seats dont work

    2) homelink doesnt work

    3) my CD is stuck in the PCM! as of a couple of days ago and wont eject (this seems like a common problem)

    now get this, my warranty expired Apr 31st 2009, the car has 40,000km (25,000 mi) on it... what do you guys suggest? can I buy extended warranty from porsche? any pricing on this?

  10. I own a 2007 997 C2S. I love the GT3 look and have been thinking hard. Have a few questions:

    - The aerocup kit front bumper seems to be different than the GT3 front bumper where the GT3 one has a top grill opening. Can i order that separately? will it fit?

    - The bottom lip on the GT3 is not painted, which is what i like. Does that come standard if i order that part?

    - The rear bumper of the GT3 is obviously different and the aerocup kit doesn't include a change. Is there a way to replace that?

    - Is the height between ground and the bottom of the rear bumper different between a GT3 and a C2S?

    The aerocup kit front bumper seems to be different than the GT3 front bumper where the GT3 one has a top grill opening. Can i order that separately? will it fit?

    A: I ordered the GT3 RS front bumper from my porsche dealer, other parts you need for this are:

    1) the difuser for the bottom (plastic peace that attaches to the bottom of the bumper and is flexible plastic which you can paint the same color as the bumper or leave black) this piece is about $300

    2) the from bumper air vent which is what you are talking about and its $36 retail and $32 dealer cost if you want your paint/body/mechanic shop order it for you

    the above package are 3 separate parts.

    As far as the rear bumper you cannot fit it on your C2S since you have the exaust separated on each side where as for the GT3 it sits in the middle, so you'd have to look at an aftermarket one that has the vents like the GT3 but hollows for tips on each end. Ground clearance is different just because the GT3 sits lower, so depending on the bumper you order may or may not sit a bit lower than what your OEM bumper has.

    I have an 05 C2S cab with the front completely changed to a GT3 RS, I will send you before and after pics, looks unbelievable! definitely worth every penny spent.

  11. Hi Sam - is this a commercial CD? If it has a label that is glued on to the surface of the CD these labels can sometimes detach a little and foul up the eject process. Try a very thin blade inserted at the upper part of the CD opening and very gently try to guide the CD out while pushing the eject button. It may take a few time to get it too work. I have had success with this technique in the past. Good luck

    it is a burnt disk, but I have been ejecting it fine the past couple of weeks. I have tried with a dental pick but it seems the CD sits slightly lower with respect to the opening so would have to get under it somehow to pry it up towards the eject roller... how did you get this to work? and do you have a PCM or the older style unit?

  12. So I've had my car for over 2 weeks now and this morning I tried ejecting my CD and nothing. The CD plays just fine but will not eject. I have used this CD before and ejected just fine but will not anymore...

    anyone has any opinions? I've tried everything, shutting off the car, taking out the fuse, shutting down the PCM...

    Everything else works fine with the system.

    Very useful thread, I was hoping somebody could help/confirm the optical wire I need for the following application:

    I have a 2005 C2S cab (997) with PCM, the PCM does have navi/phone buttons but I do not think either are hooked up ( I do not have a nav unit in the loggage compartment ).

    I purchased the CDC4 changer/mount etc but the wire I have does not work since I have the amp/booster.

    The instruction manual I have reads 997.622.712.00 Optical waveguide LWL, without nav unit, is this what I need? if so it is not listed above. I basically need a 1 to 2 optical wire if that makes sense since I need it to hook up to both the booster and the changer.

    I found a post on this forum for the 996 but are not sure if it will be the same as 997 or not since the installation tech manual does not include some of those part numbers listed there
