  1. I'm not entirely sure. If I were to guess, I would say it is something to do with both the structural design of the hood in case of a front end crash and/or aerodynamic reasoning.
  2. I know what people have said here and I know EXACTLY what you are referring to. I am telling you that EVERY SINGLE 997 has the same hood design and the same appearance as the picture you posted. Yes, for those of you reading this who think their car does not have this indentation, it is there. I promise you. The problem is, that different colors reflect this in different ways. On my car (midnight blue metallic) you cannot see this at all, under any circumstances, lighting conditions, etc. However, when I have my car cover on it, it is plain as day. It is a very weird engineered design, but it is definitely there on every 997 I have come across. This is not a problem, this is the engineered design.
