i would like to get some clarification on the "ims" issue.

first: we are aware there a percentage of 996/997 engines grenade due to ims. we have no real data as to the frequency -only an anecdotal percentage of perhaps 3-5% -never confirmed by porsche.

second: ln engineering has created an elegant replacement bearing for the intermediate shaft. is it a must do?

now the hard stuff. will this replacement if done in a preventive manner remove all of the ims issues from our cars?

i know this is a new item and we are unaware of its own longevity - aside from that is original bearing failure the only or the most common cause of ims?

i appreciate you input to try an get a better understanding of if it makes sense to do this "upgrade" .

when the dealer does the rms repair what fluids are replaced the gearbox fluid or the differential or none? thanks

all german parts sells textar pads which they say are oem -so are the same as the textar pads sold in that porsche box from sunset ? thanks, larry

anyone using b.f. goodrich g-Force T/A KD ? tirerack lists them as having great performance and tread life - comments?

at what mileage have people replaced their pads -front or rear -with moderate driving, not track. have you also replaced your rotors at the same time? have you needed to do both front and rear at the same time? now - the important question what has it cost?

the story: brought my car in to swap out my winter wheels and tries for the summer set and got to talking to the service rep about brakes. (i currently have 28000 on my 02 C2 - they said front pads 60% left - rear 75% left). his answer was around 50,000 or so with a cost of $1000 per axle for pads and rotors?

what has been your experience? thanks larry

so i warmed up my car - tried the oil level gizmo -it wen through its cycle and shows 2 bars low - now what? how much would you add?

about to buy a 2002 c2 with 25000 miles in fabulous condition -fully serviced - highway miles. still has 2 years on the original warranty - i have been offered an additional 2 years up to 100,000 miles as a porche certified car for an additional $1600 -now the question is it worth it??? i would appreciate your responses..

anyone have a line on a low miles well priced c4 - what year makes most sense in terms of car and price? thanks, larry
