  1. oops ... forgot to Welcome you Alastair .... so welcome sir to the Renntech forums! :clapping: (btw im also a bit new here, and new to Porsche)
  2. http://www.gtpurelyporsche.com/pastissue.asp?issueID=17 ... this mag had a GT3 997 buyers guide ... does anyone have this article and would love as well if they can scan and post ... EDIT: i found it ... yay!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.gtpurelyporsche.com/downloadtra...File=997GT3.pdf. by the way regarding the RMS, the porsche tech replaced it with a 996TT seal, and so far no problem .... people mentioning it reduces HP by 5, i honestly cant see how a seal can do this ... Absolutely brilliant adamr, thank you so much for the link, this is exactly what I was looking for. So is the RMS a problem I should look out for on the 997 GT3 as well then or were you just unlucky with your car? Again thanks for the PDF it will help me to pick the right car. Cheers Alastair the RMS apparently was pretty common on a lot of GT3's RS included, so i have been told. My particular one used to leak one drop per week ... told the mech about the 996 seal, and he first looked at me stumped! i think he did his own homework and then just put in the 996TT seal

  4. Yeah, and how many of these have already been wrecked?? thats true and with this car im sure they are a few Can I do this to my Boxster S over the weekend and then call her a "Boxster S RS"????? :D LOL! ... you just need the "klak-klak-klak" idle sound from the install of a lightweight single mass flywheel then you officially have a Boxster S RS !!!: )
  5. my experience with the RS is that if the car is cold the gear changes are tough, but when the car warms up gear change is pretty easy .... i would assume you are allowing your cars oil to warm up before revving it to 6k RPM doubt you did any damage, but i guess if you do it a few times, then yes you will damage the box ...
  6. a lightweight single mass flywheel broader rear track 12 o clock on the the steering wheel is painted yellow plexi-glass rear windscreen roll cage the camber i think is setup more for track use and they primarily came in 4 colours, silver with orange wheels and decals black with orange wheels and decals green with black wheels and decals orange with black wheels and decals 1900 worldwide ... mmm .... im so desperate to know how many worldwide ... the stats i have is 200 in the states and 14 here in South Africa ... LOL!
  7. As the title asks how many 997 GT3 RS's have been made in the world
  8. ok they replaced the seal with a 993/996TT seal ... the mech did his homework before choosing this seal ... but honestly how on earth can a seal cause 5hp power loss, makes absolutely no sense ... so lets see how the car handles the seal ... V10 M5 vs GT3 RS ... how would the Porsche fair? ... im talking straights
  9. thanks Patrick for the info ... the car is now at the Porsche specialist and I will hopefully drive the car back home on Wednesday wiith a maintenance plan and fresh service having been done. (gonna be gritting my teeth waiting for my baby, already do miss her :() I have already indicated to the manager that the RMS sweat is a common issue on these cars and he indicated that he will liaise with their Porsche specialist technicians on the matter, 1. Has someone who has tried the 996/993 TT seal still experience leaks? (seems to be the solution) 2. Has anyone tried the new 997.2 GT3 RMS? and what's the success on this seal? (maybe its me but have not seen anyone commenting on the above two points as not having worked) As per your link Patrick the vacum being faulty now just = more $$$. Sounds to me like people now guessing what could be wrong :) ... id think after two years of the car being on the market there would have been a solution to this problem
  10. Thanks for the welcome Loren ... :) Am taking the car into a local Porsche specialist who will put the car on a maintenance plan and do the yearly service on the car which includes changing oil with Castrol Edge (that is why the oil question) Will monitor the oil sweat on the car when the car is back ... On the smoking: Every single time i start the car up, it lets out a puff of smoke and thats it, after that she is fine (for the three days i have the car, its been doing this every single day when i start her up) ... so technically not really smoking, just that initial puff of smoke (have had the BMW ///M cars before and am not use to seeing this that's why the silly questions :)) @patrick, wonder if i should just tell the Porsche specialist to rather just leave the seal, if this issue has not been resolved ... will hear what they say :renntech:
  11. Hi All, im new to Porsche and have purchased a silver/orange 997 GT3 RS, the car has 11000km ... a few observations and i have been told these are normal and just need to confirm them 1. The car smokes on start up? told this is normal 2. The car makes a "glak glak" sound when idling, and when one depresses the clutch it goes away ... told this is normal due to the car having a single mass flywheel 3. Car has an "oil sweat" on the RMS ... seen the other posts wrt this and has there really been a solution? Should i have Porsche change the seal or just leave it? What are the recommended oils to use in the car (excluding Mobile1)? Castrol Edge or Castrol TWS motorsport? ... we dont get Mobile1 here in South Africa ... any DIY links for this car? Thanks Adam
