  1. Have your OPC refer to TSB 1/05 9110 PCM2.1 System Connection: Complaints and Repair -- dated May 5, 2006.

    Excerpt...

    Thanks.

I'll check they have read that TSB.

On another note, I have just managed to order the Dension Gateway 500 unit. If I wanted to install myself, is there a TSB that covers the acces to the appropriate units to be connected?

    Thanks.

Did you get this problem resolved? I too have a pre MY06 997 and my in car head unit does not read mp3 which is a feature I would love.

Look forward to hearing on a successful resolution to your problem.

    Regards

  2. Both the 996TT and 997C2S are great cars. Great performance and whilst the TT does have a significantly more hp, the NA 997C2S engine is very responsive and immediate.

You should really also consider the fact that you will need to be prepared to be hit by a bigger wedge of depreciation with the 997.

I considered both and whilst the financial side of things meant I should go for a 996TT, I couldn't get away from the better looks of the 997.

  3. I would not recommend that anyone really "pushes" the car until fully warmed, as stated by Mr. Larson. I am not saying that you have to sit and idle, in fact, this is not advisable, but keep the RPM's below 4,000 until the temp gage is at normal op. temp and the gear box has loosened up, during very cold conditions (like winter driving).

I would echo these comments. 'Pushing' the car engine when cold is definitely a bad thing to do.

I understand that using more than 1.5l of engine oil 600 miles = replacement engine required.

Some people report very little oil usuage, others higher.

Jean, from what I've seen, your half a quart (half of 946.35ml) every 1000 miles is not something to have to be worried about.

That said, your service department would have given you the same response if you were using that much oil every 3000 miles.

  4. Guys,

Any thoughts on ordering 997 TT with tiptronic gearbox. Recently read article where test driver/motoring journalist had manual TT for one week in everyday situation - i.e. going to shops/taking kids to school!. Said he was getting tired of hitting the rev limiter all the time when he decided to open it up on UK roads.

I assume the clutch is heavier than 997S??

No, the clutch on a manual 997TT is actually very light, noticeably lighter than the C2, C2S, C4 and C4S.

Not a problem once you get used to it.

  5. Uhmmm, that's an exhaust pipe.

It gets sooty no matter what car it is. Your ok and enjoy your ride

Thanks for the input, unfortunately not helpful. Maybe I didn't explain my initial post. My concern is not about having soot, it's the fact that one side has so much more than the other side.

Had a phone call from another chap on rennlist with the same problem as mine. He is needing a new engine and is having it replaced this week.

Any others needing new engines or having similar problems? Comments are most appreciated.

  6. My 2005 997C2S (manual, coupe, RHD England) has sooty left hand side tailpipes.

I noticed other people have reported similar problems at other forums (rennteam, rennlist, etc).

Has anyone else had these problems?

My car is currently with my Porsche dealer for tests, but I would appreciate any comments, advise or experiences on this matter.

People report of high engine oil usage, something my car suffers from, and engine oil in certain exhaust ports.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Citation, sounds like you are in a similar position to me 12 months ago.

I'm in my 20s and whilst having the brakes on my Z3 2.8 changed, I took a M3 out for a test. Really liked it and very nearly bought it, but did not feel I was ready for a proper 4 seater saloon.

Took delivery of my 997C2S this January and absolutely love it. I don't get to drive much, so it has taken me 6 months to get past the break in period, but even driving it conservatively is very enjoyable.

As Benny says, the power and handling are great. But for me, I was taken by the nimbleness of it, bearing in mind it is not a physically small car.

Moving from a 2 seater with no lugage space to the 911, I actually find this car more practical as well.

As many others say - Porsche... if you can, you must.

  8. The helicopter noise is due to variations in sound pressure.

With sunroof fully open, it cannot be heard below 20mph; is really loud from c.30 - 70 mph, and then is not a problem 80+ mph.

I find that opening my side windows just a little bit (half cm) remedies this problem.

With regards to the rattles, I'm getting it on bumpy roads, especially with PASM on sport setting. The dealership used teflon tape within the roof lining to try and cure it, but this has had no effect. I took a technician out with me on a subsequent visit and he said the noise was similar to a problem on 996 with sunroof. I was told there is no absolute fix ?!?!
