  1. Hi all,

I found this little hose unattached from the other end in the gasket near battery, on the passenger's side. What is it and where should it be connected?

    Car is 1997 986, US-model.

    Thanks!

CEL is on with code P0447 which stands for:

P0447 EVAP Canister Shutoff Valve (Output Stage) - Open Circuit

I am also getting similar whirling sound that lasts for 1 second and comes in frequency of 5 seconds, seems to be coming from the evap. canister. Related? Shutoff valve malfunctioning? Is there a part-number for shutoff valve or is it with the canister?

  2. I am still trying to sort out my annoyning wet carpet problem. I have noticed that I get water in from different places and one of them is B-pillar. I have been reading through the previous posts and found this picture, I know it is from 987 and I have 986 but it looks quite the same. I marked my missing part with green arrows.

It looks like a seal in the B-pillar? Is it that? Anyone help with part-number?

I have tracked one of the leaks to that specific place. Some of the water goes under the soundproofing foam and from there under the seat instead of the drip pan.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Hi,

I got readings from my Boxster 1997 today. The car is US-model and made in Stuttgart. I have my Check Engine light on with code:

    P0447

    Code: 96 (Shutoff Valve Activated)

    Code: 99 (Tank Pressure Sensor)

I reset the codes, tried with another (although used) cap for the tank but it did not help.

If I reset the code and drive on the highway (tried for 1 hour), light will not come but if I leave the car running while parked, light will come in about 10 minutes.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks again!

  4. Hi,

I have lost my fuse chart and I am trying to locate fuse for drivers side tail light and same side brake light. All fuses seem to be intact so I don't feel like checking them all with multimeter. I tested the light-module with the passangers side and it worked alright.

I found chart for '99 Boxster from the forum but couldn't find fuse for those lights from the descriptions.

    Car is 1997 986 US-model.

    Thanks in advance!

  5. Thank you Maurice, I will order the replacement parts and get some bolts with big plastic washers to make the trays stick better.

I have been busy trying to dry the carpets, I guess I have to remove the seats next weekend.

There was no unit under the passanger side but a black box under drivers seat. Fortunately water did not reach that far.

  6. Post some photos so that we can have a look at how bad they are.

Replacing them completely is also a DIY and requires removal and re-installation of the entire top and frame assembly. That procedure is MUCH easier than stripping off and replacing the canvas part of the top.

    Regards, Maurice.

This picture is from the right side. It is pretty bad I think, notice the hole that has been made in order to access the bolt underneath, DUH! After removing the transmissions and bolts for the top, drain tray is hanging far away from the body and the water went straight in as the gaskets are what they are...

I think that DIY was not ex-owners thing, I am so glad that the box under driver's seat wasn't damaged.

I have some black Loctite 5922 around that would do the trick if the damage was smaller. First I was thinking about patching the big hole(s) with similar material and sealing with Loctite but in the end I am not sure how good it would last.

  7. If you are talking about the foam drain trays, that is another question entirely. :P

I think I spent too many hours checking out the car and reading the forums so my eyes were bleeding.

What I was looking was the drain trays alright. I transferred my problem to part number questions: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=28513

    Thanks for the great photoset!

  8. Hi,

I am having the same problem with my 1997 986 that many have suffered. Got some water under both seats, not enough to break anything, YET. I am the new owner of the car and noticed that the water drain trays are in bad shape with the gaskets so I am pretty sure my leakage is due that. Drain pipes are clean and work ok. It seems that they got broken while the ex-owner removed the mechanism for the electrical top, I wonder if the new parts (trays) are even going to be tight enough without transmissions attached to them.

I need some help confirming the numbers for the parts that need to be changed, thanks in advance!

I am unable to spot if the part number for the gasket in the bottom of the top (number 1) is 986 561 393 01 or 986 514 731 00?

Is the gasket attached to the body for the clamshell (number 2 in the picture) 986 514 211 01?

    I believe that drain trays are 986 561 805 03 (left) and 986 561 806 03 (right).

  9. but $1k for a piece of foam is a bit ridiculous in my opinion. Has anyone found any other options for replacing those things? I figure I might as well get it all done while I have the top off.

I have the same problem, my foam is completely ripped and teared. Someone tried to fix it but failed miserably.

Let us know if you find a solution somewhere.
