  1. I've taken off my static rear spoiler off and re connected the cables for the electric auto spoiler. It goes up to a full extension with one push of the button (down in the footwell). I have to hold the button down to lower it.

1st question - is that normal?

If I raise and then lower. I can not repeat the process without first turning the key to OFF and then back to ON

2nd question - is that normal?

Lastly, when I am driving I can see (don't ask how  ) the spoiler go up. When I drop back down under 55 (or even lower) the spoiler does not automatically go down. nor can I manually put it down.

3rd question - is that normal? Obviously, this last one is not normal. I just don't know what may be causing the problem.

BTW - I did notice however there is another wiring connector (2 wire) that is not plugged into anything. I'm sure it should be plugged in somewhere, I just don't know where or what it goes to.

Also, the dash light for the spoiler does not go off

    Thanks for your help!!!

  2. The 2.7 did not come with the remote/alarm as standard. It was an option on the base Boxster. If you have a passenger side door lock like this then you do not have it.

Also, if you had it your would have the option code 535 on the option sticker.

    TP,

You are dead on. I DO have the passenger side lock. I also verified the option codes and do not have 535 listed. Now I know. I guess I'm sticking with a third-party alarm system.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

    Regards,

    Will

  3. When I bought the car, it came with 2 laser cut keys with just plain fob's that has the Porsche emblem on one side and a push button on the other for a embedded light. I also received a third key. The third key had a molded grey-in-color fob that I was told is the valet key.

I actually mute my alarm when I unlock/disarm and lock/arm the car because I'm tired of hearing the loud beep-beep sound. I liek the sound of BMW's and my wife's Sequioa...but I guess I'm asking too much.

If I did go through this would I guess I'm purchasing the fobs and then having them programmed for my integrated alarm system.

    Is that right?

    Thx,

    Will

  4. I've had the same problem for a year. I though it was bent rims or out of round tires. I took my car to a wheel specialist that can also do high-speed balancing in Atlanta (Butler tires).

They found every tire and wheel to be perfectly balanced. So, I drove back to Tampa and still had a vibration above 70mph.

Note: It starts to go away when I reach 100mph. But maybe it's due to my attention elsewhere...Cops.

Anyway, I had my tires replaced, AGAIN, last month and still have this vibration. I can feel it in the seat, steering wheel...everywhere. The wind deflector vibrates. My Sirius Radio mounted to the floor vibrates. It feels like the whole car.

I just do not know what else to have checked and I'm tired of spending money with no resolution.

    Any thoughts, comments or advice?

    Thanks,

    Will

  5. When I bought my '00 2.7L it had a third-party alarm on it. After owning the car now for 5 years, I'm interested in removing the alarm (DEI Viper Alarm).

    Here's my questions:

does my car come with a factory alarm? if so, what needs to be done to make it operational.

Also, my keys did not have an alarm Fob, so would I need to get those replaced or is that the indication there is no factory alarm.

    Thanks in advanced,

    Will

  6. If this is the broken clip you are talking about - then replace it.

is the clip replaceable or do you have to replace the whole mounting assembly? Mine busted a while back, so I removed the wiring harness and snapped off part of the bracket to get it out. It was the only way to get the wiring out far enough to manually attach it to the light. It appeared at the time that this clip is part of an entire molded piece that the headlight assembly sits on.

Please advise. Also, where does one get this, how much, and what's the part number?

    Thanks,

    Will

  7. Make sure they are truly warped. In my travels this is an over used term for standard road cars. The rotors may cause uneven pad wear or the calipers may not be preforming well but it sure takes a lot of heat or poor quality to warp a rotor from standard road use. Racers need not argue!

I heard something....I'm not sure if it true, so maybe someone can verify.

US shops are buying (in quantity) Zimmerman's that have no drilling. They are just cast rotors. Then the local US shop drills them and slots them and finally some dip them. In tune they sell them on ebay for big bucks.

I found a few articles about the process of dipping them especially when it comes ti Cadmium, Zinc-Nickle and other coatings.

Anyway, maybe someone has some info to back this up.

  8. I also checked with another company that was suggested in this Forum. It is Porsche Apart. here's what they stated.

"We have that item in stock at £120+VAT plus carriage"

that means it's about $240 plus whatever VAT is and shipping (carriage).

Strange - I bought one from Porsch-Apart about 9-10 months ago for £70.00(GBP)+VAT. Also, they shouldn't charge you UK VAT (17.5%) if they are shipping out of the UK. I bought the stalk, a '99 cruise actuator and throttle pedal for £140+VAT+shipping.

Just realised - maybe they were talking about brand new - mine was second hand.

    Hey Richard,

That is strange isn't it? I pasted part of the email that I received from them in my post so that there was no loss in translation. I was really looking forward to a great deal, bu alas.

Thanks for the posts. I guess I'll have to check to see if anyone has a broken assembly and have them unbolt the OBC stalk. I have a 3-stalk so I guess that could work with the correct wiring.

  10. Years ago the going rate was $150, but I'm sure prices have gone up. Check with Sunset Imports in Oregon.

If you know anyone converting their Boxster to a track car you might check that out. We have a local owner that converted and he had the 4 stalk unit. But I have told several local owners about it so I doubt he still has it.

    Thanks guys.

First place I looked (for a year now) was ebay. I've checked CraigsList, here and a few others.

I got this from Jeff at Sunset.

"158.38 for just the 4 stalk unit and in stock. Plus 7-10 dollars shipping depending on zip code. Thanks, Jeff. 996-613-219-10-EWC."

ToolPants, if you here anything let me know. I'll check with my Indie WrenchHead. I think he's doing some race stuff.

If anyone here's anything on it, drop me a line at willcapp@gmail.com

  11. I have a 2000 2.7L. It has for the most part always ran just above 180 (needle just past the "0"). I tried to calculate that to be 187F.

There have been at times that the temp has gone above that spot and only in the past couple of years.

sometimes when I sit in rush hour traffic on a hot day.

    AND

when I was low on coolant.

Low on coolant I would have thought would not make a difference, but the temp started rising (to around the 200F mark) and the red indicator light on the Temp gauge started flashing. Again, while I was sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic. I called my Independent Porsche Mechanic and asked his advise. He said the coolant was low.

    I hope that helps.

  12. Hey folks,

I have been doing a lot of research on the OBC/cruise hack. mainly here at RennTech.org, but I have not found any place to get the 4 stalk inexpensively.

I've seen lost of references to the part numbers and some posts about the approximate price.

Does anyone know of the the least expensive palce to get part number 996.613.219.10 EWC (which I believe is the 4 stalk non-glossy one)

    Thanks,

    Will

  13. Hey all,

I have had a problem with my driver's side seatback not moving. It instead has blown a fuse 4 times.

    Here are the symptoms:

    1. I attempt to move the seatback, it moves a little and then stops...regardless of direction

    2. Seat no longer moves

    3. Notice fuse is blown.

    4. Replace Fuse

    5. seatback moves a little then stops.

    6. fuse is blown

    See the pattern?

I'm not sure what the cause is. any thoughts?

2000 Boxster, 2.7L, no memory seats, no heated seats, 3rd party alarm system.

    Thanks,

    Will
