  1. PCM2 CD Mechanism Swap - Due to ejecting problems

    PCM2 CD Mechanism Swap This tutorial will show how I sourced and replaced the CD Mechanism in my 996 PCM2. I replaced the mechanism due to problems ejecting the CD and intermittent problems reading the Sat Nav disk. I couldn't find any reference to this on the internet so hopefully someone else will benefit from this tutorial Please note I actually took the photo's in reverse, i.e. when putting everything back together. Step 1 Remove the Fascia - A description of this is already in the for

  2. Hi

    I tried to update my PCM 2.0 from Software Version 2.0 to 3.0 and the update failed

    The weird thing is the original outdated Nav CD says to use version 3.0 but this works OK.

    Here is a photo of what is on the system at the moment

    IGNORE the checking PIN, it's just checking my SIM Card PIN when I turned on the ignition

    The Weird thing is that the Telephone Version has got ????? against it, what do other peoples state ?

    Here are the steps I take when upgrading, when the upgrade CD is inserted.

    step1.jpg

    Select YES

    step2.jpg

    Then

    step3.jpg

    Then an error

    Step4.jpg

    No matter how many times I reinsert the upgrade CD I still get the same.

    The only thing I can think is that because the Telephone update is completed 1st (as detailed in the .inf file on the disk) and because my version is unknown i.e. ?????, the update is failing

    I've thought about altering the .inf file on the update disk so the telephone update doesn't complete, but the Gateway & MMI does. BUT I am very scared incase the telephone module is then unrecognised, or the PCM dies.

    I did insert EU NAV CD3 (2008) and it did install/update PCM successfully and appears to be working OK.

    Has anyone seen this before or does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my PCM upgraded to Version 3.0, preferably without going to an Official Porsche Centre

    Regards

    ALL

    I took the plunge and edited the update32.inf file and removed reference to the Telephone on the PCM v2.0 to v3.0 update CD files.

    My inf file now reads

    [system]

    ReleaseVersion=3.0

    AllowedDevices=6631,6632,6633,6634

    [gateway]

    Path=/gateway/gateway.bin

    ReleaseVersion=3.0

    Inst=03

    StartAddr=98368

    Memtype=06

    Format=00

    Name=PCM2 HU-Gateway/ST10

    Date=13.03.2003

    ECUSoftwareVersionNumber=03114AD1

    ECUSoftwareNumber=1103

    Comment=

    [MMI]

    Path=/Mmi/Porsche.bin

    ReleaseVersion=3.0

    Inst=04

    StartAddr=262144

    Memtype=06

    Format=00

    Name=PCM2 HU-MMI

    Date=28.05.2003

    ECUSoftwareVersionNumber=03202ED1

    ECUSoftwareNumber=2203

    Comment=

    I then burned this together with folders, 'gateway' & 'MMI' using Nero to a CDROM at 4x Speed

    I inserted this into my PCM and went through the same steps as detailed above, however this time is reported Device 1 of 2 (for the 2 updates, as expected)

    At one point the update failed and asked me to insert the CD again, however I didn't and the update started again without removing the CD.

    This time everything was successful and the update took place, it does take a little while so don't panic.

    Also at the end of the update the screen goes blank when the PCM reboots for the update to take effect.

    I am now running version 3 software.

    I haven't noticed any real differences apart from NAVI now shows POI's and has 2 settings for the display colours but thats about it.

    Although those features might have been there before, I am unsure.

    Anyhow, this answers my own question and hopefully many other peoples.
