  1. Just replaced the battery a day ago and started working on the drivers seat which has been inoperable since my daughter was driving the car and she moved the seat forward.  I was able to remove the lower portion of the seat to inspect and diagnose but havn't been able to fix.  While I was working on the seat I put down the top.  When the top is down the front windows go up if I hold down the top button till the are up.  Then I go to put the top up and the top goes up properly but when it closes,  it used to put all the windows up,  now the top latch opens and closes like it doesn't know that the latch is closed properly.  None of the window switches will do anything,  and when i put the key in the door and turn to close the windows nothing happens.  I also unplugged the alarm box under the seat and plugged it back in again and that didnt help help help!

  2. Just did this fix on sunday and i want to thank scb71 for the post and pictures which make it easier to understand> I did everything up to the part removal and could not figure out what type of screw was in there and i came on the blog and saw it was a flathead. Interesting sidebar about this, i left the battery connected and after the hookup my remote functions on the key worked again (wife put the key through the wash ). Saved me at least $100 to have the key reprogrammed !! So I actually saved about $200.

  3. I have a radiator fan that is not working on the drivers side front of the 996. Seems that the covers that are located underneath in front of the wheel wells are missing and there is 2 sensors which operate the fans and 1 has broken away from the wiring. The metal tube shaped one is still intact. Anyone know what the correct part # is for the other sensor and the cover that protect them on each side ? Fan will not switch on and car overheats. Thanks in advance for your help.

  4. The hose likely blew because it was old, deteriorated and weak.

You really want to go with stainless steel screw type spring clamps.

    Loren,

thanks for your help. Another thing that I have a problem with is the headlight switch has not been working and i saw some post that it is possible to clean with MAF stuff but i cannot find where it is sold, any thoughts ?

  5. Recently the coolant started leaking from my 2002 996. I took to the garage and they told me the expansion tank was cracked and it needed replacement. A few days after the fix was done, I went for a ride and the car got up to heat and i pulled into a parking lot and a hose blew open on the spring clamp and all the coolant blew out. I took the car back to the shop and asked if they had seen any fluid go into the expansion tank when they tested the car and they said no. I believe the spring clamps are there instead of screw down clamps because of a issue with pressure so the car will blow off the clamp if too much pressure exists.
