  1. On my 2006 C2S I notice when going up through the rev's (fast or slow) there is a high pitched squeal or whine from the rear of the car above 3500 RPM. It occurs whether I stay on the throttle or lift off as long as the rev's are around that 3500 range.

    Just curious if anyone has experienced this as well or perhaps have some thoughts. My car has 14k miles and has always been meticulously maintained.

    YES! I've noticed the squeal since last fall. I hear it most clearly when I am driving with the windows down, next to something that reflects sound, i.e. a wall, a jersey barrier, etc. It goes up and down with engine speed mostly with throttle on and lifting the throttle. It is driving me nuts! I took it to the dealer and got a tech to ride with me, but he couldn't hear it.

    Not sure what to do. Feel like I'm slightly crazy, but I'm not.

  2. I'm preparing to tackle the transmission fluid change on my manual 2006 997S. I've purchased one gallon of Mobil 75-90 Delvac Synthetic gear oil for the job. Does anyone know the exact capacity of the gear box? I'm pretty sure 1 gallon will suffice but read recently on another forum that just over 1 gallon is necessary for filling to the upper fill plug.

    How did you choose Delvac? Did you consult the approved list, and if so can you post it!?! :) I'm thinking of doing the same for my '06 C2S also!

  3. Only the electronic related part of the PSE is diagnosed, it remains important to check the mechanical parts as well. EOBD (OBD II) is a help, not a cure all.

    the car doesnt have PSE its not sports exhaust and jus tfound out that there are no diverters on exhaust if its not sports

    so the question is why the sound faded and lost it growling the porsche dealership says everything is fine they dont see any issue whereas i am not enjoying the drive anymore :(

    Hmm. Mysterious. Have you listened from outside? Perhaps if you have someone rev the engine and you are listening from a position behind the car, you may get a better sense of how the sound differs... Just a thought.

  4. I recently acquired a 2006 C2S with the factory nav. I have to say that it is torture to use it. The $200 NuviI bought for my other car is dramatically better! The C2S unit isn't a touch screen, so you have to use the knob to select letters: rotate until the letter is selected, then push, rotate again, push again, rotate past all of the letters to the menu item that allows you to input the text you just selected. I didn't spend the couple of hundred to update the database, so some streets are not recognized. Yes, it is nice to avoid the wires and mounting hassle of a 3rd party unit, but how about this: use a nice mounting bracket to avoid the suction cup nonsense, and have the Garmin or whatever hardwired through the glovebox? You'll save alot of dough, and have a a unit you will be happy to use. spend the money on a bluetooth/ipod retrofit unit from bumperplugs.com.

    I can't comment on the aftermarket head units. Some folks on the forums don't want to mess with anything that isn't stock, that can't easily be undone.

  5. The first thing to figure out is if you have all season tires or summer tires. If you have all season's then I think you're all good. I'm in the NE but used to live in Norcal, and went to Tahoe a decent amount. CHP will let you through with 4wd and no chains, but if you have summer tires you will be slipping all over the place in the snow. It will be unsafe. I don't have experience with summer tires and chains, but my guess is that summer tires and chains in the snow is not a great idea.

    To me, snow is an abstract concept that is best seen on television, but it looks cold. For some insane reason, my wife's family has decided to rent a house for a week in Squaw Valley by Lake Tahoe at Christmas-time. I can read the owner's manual and try to figure out this four wheel drive stuff, low gear setting, and what-not.

    Do I also need to carry snow chains? I have an '08 Cayenne S, 19" original Continentals with about 24K miles on them (not down to the wear bars yet), and air suspension. If I need snow chains, what should I get? I'm sure Porsche sells N-rated tire chains, which are probably the same as some other brand with more expensive brand marking. I assume they go on the rear wheels, correct? Any tips, suggestions or good jokes to keep thinking about if I have to put them on?

    I am definitely not looking at winter tires or a second set of wheels for the snow.
