  1. Well, though my experience is with other turbo charged cars, I've removed cats and mufflers from three other turbocharged vehicles and....

    1. They made more power with the absolute lowest backpressure (post turbo). I don't believe "backpressure" after the turbos is important at all since there is so much backpressure before the turbos. Even at full boost (minimal backpressure pre-turbo) there will still be sufficient backpressure. Like I said, with three other cars, more power was gained when the minimum amount of post-turbo restriction was achieved.

    2. The turbos act as mufflers and I still have the main cats, which also act as a muffler. I'm not sure how loud a Cayenne Turbo would be without the rear mufflers. There's a You Tube video that's labeled Cayenne Straight Pipe (or something like that) and it's not what I would call too loud. If anything, my Cayenne Turbo is WAY TOO QUIET now. And the Cayenne as SO MUCH insulation, I’m thinking it couldn’t' get too loud. But, I would like to talk to someone that's done it.

Thanks to you both for the reply. :renntech:

  2. I've ordered a new thicker TechEquipment steering wheel and a new airbag since my buttons are scratched. Does anyone have detailed instructions on how to remove and re-install the steering wheel and airbag? I've found the instruction below, but was hoping for something more detailed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Retract the steering column too the max.

Turn the steering wheel 90° too the left

Insert a flat screwdriver in too the hole on the back of the steering wheel till he hooked after a steel spring

Push the screwdriver in the direction of the steering column, while pulling on the airbag module

Turn the steering wheel 180° to the right and do the same handling in the other hole

Remove the airbag module and the connectors

Remove the center bolt in the steering wheel

    Remove the steering wheel

  3. I've been hearing a clunking noise from the front right wheel area when it's compressed, i.e. when bracking hard. I'm assuming this is a bushing going back, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue? It's not all the time, must under very hard braking and also when turning hard (full lock) in a parking lot. I've done a search in the Forum and couldn't find anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  4. Can anyone give me a suggestion on cross drilled rotors for an 04 Cayenne Turbo? I hope I don't offend anyone, but I'm looking for someone that's installed a set with no issues/good experience. I know of companies that make them that I've used for other cars I've had. However, I'm looking for someone that's used then on a Cayenne. I've looked on E-Bay and see a few but am always a little nervous on using someone new with personal experience or recommendation.

Happy New Year to everyone! :renntech:

  5. I have an 04 Turbo model with 35k miles. On the way to work on Friday my car spewed 7 qts of engine oil onto the ground in about 90 seconds. It turned out that a screw/bolt on the oil pressure regulator came loose and allowed the oil to shoot out. Luckily, no engine damage. They tightened it up and said it was good and didn't need to be replaced. I just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else. Two dealerships said that they've never seen it before.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  6. I have a 30k mile 04 Turbo. Running great. No issues. Until it pumped about 4 qts all over the ground just before arriving to the gym early yesterday morning. Luckily I shut down the engine fast enough that I think I didn't damage the engine. The leak is around the passenger side in the front corner of the engine bay. The dealer I talked to told me that they've had an oil line bust that leads to the turbo. I looked under and around and it's not leaking from the drain plugs, oil filter or lines leading to the oil cooler.

Any suggestions...anyone else have this happen? I would like to attempt repairing it myself if it's just a rubber oil line.

    Thanks,

    Matt

  7. UPDATE: I sent the whole instrument cluster to a repair shop and they found that the flourescent lamps that light the LCD display had gone bad and could not be repaired/replaced. I've ordered a Porsche Remanufactured unit from Sunset (about $1,400) and will have the local dealer down-load the data (milage, etc) from the old unit and up to the new unit. It's suppose to take about 30 minutes. I will then reassumble the dash. All and all, it's going to cost me about $1,500 total. Oh well, what can you do. <_<

So, if you display goes dark just save time and evergy and buy a new unit.

    Matt

That price is steep! How much are you saving by getting the remanufactured cluster? I am thinking of getting a new cluster too because the front display is noticeably dimmer than usual, not sure why because everything is stock (untouched so far!), and the clear plastic cover is scratched too.

$1,500 is for a Porsche OEM remanufactured unit purchased from Sunset Porsche and not an aftermarket or non-Porsche reman unit. It was like brand new and is backed by the standard Porsche warrenty. You could buy a new one for about $500 more but I don't know any advantage.

  8. I have an 04 Cayenne Turbo with an UpSolute Chip and secondary cat bypass pipes. Back in February, about three weeks after increasing the boost with the UpSolute chip I had a misfire at high boost levels. Nothing too bad, just a cylinder or two not firing when the boost got high (around 12 lbs). Everyone said to check the ignitors (known problem). I replaced all eight ignitors and plugs with OEM parts. All ignitors that were in there did have cracks. They were about three years old. However, that was just over four months ago and about 5k miles and I'm getting the problem again.....missing cylinder at high boost levels. I know the ignitors are bad...but they're not suppose to be THAT bad. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've known over Cayenne Turbos with increased boost and they don't go through ignitors and/or plugs THAT quickly....usually about 20k miles.

    Looking for any suggestions. :renntech:
