  1. I just spent about $1,500 to replace my main display in my Cayenne Turbo. OUCH! The halogen backlight went out in the digital screen. No way to repair it..only replace the entire gauge cluster. Since then the display always returns to Average Speed when I shut the car off. I always used to keep it at Range and never remember having to cycle through to it every time I would drive it. Now, It always goes back to Average Speed and I have to cycle to range....obviously unless I just want to keep it at Average Speed. I already selected Reset to Factory Settings to see if that fixed it (it fixed other problems before) but I'm still coming up with Average Speed when I start the car even after I shut it off with Range selected. Any suggestions? Anyone have this happen before?

  2. UPDATE: I sent the whole instrument cluster to a repair shop and they found that the flourescent lamps that light the LCD display had gone bad and could not be repaired/replaced. I've ordered a Porsche Remanufactured unit from Sunset (about $1,400) and will have the local dealer down-load the data (milage, etc) from the old unit and up to the new unit. It's suppose to take about 30 minutes. I will then reassumble the dash. All and all, it's going to cost me about $1,500 total. Oh well, what can you do. <_<

So, if you display goes dark just save time and evergy and buy a new unit.

  3. If you're talking about the tray that slides out that also houes the ash tray, it's quite an intensive job I've heard. I would try to get the coins out by going from above. The horshe trim that goes around the HVAC and radio is pretty easy to remove and then you can remove the HVAC controls pretty easily. Note, I used dental floss to remove the horshoe trim instead of a pry bar/screw drive. Just work the dental floss under it and pull it out. I found that this did less damage to the surrounding leather.

Also, the trim that goes around the shifter is very easy to removed. Remove the two trim screws under the center console cover and then just lift it out from the back to the front. Very easy.

    I hope this helps.

  4. It's been a couple of months since I installed the wheel arch extensions, mud flaps and spoilers that I installed. I thought I would give everyone an update...they're holding up great. The wheel arch extensions did get a few chips due to a drastic inscrease in sand and gravel that was added to the salt due to a salt shortage in Ohio. I noticed it on my wifes car too and a drastic increase in sand and gravel that built up in the garage this winter. The mud flaps and spoilers are holding up great. The mud flaps look a lot better since I installed 22" wheels. The wheels fill up the fender a lot more and make the mud flaps more proportinal to the car. Now the wheels stick out the same amount as the mud flaps. I used the OEM spacers on the back.

Anyway...the paint is holding up on the mud flaps. BTW, my body shop used a product called Bulldog and added a lot of flexer to the paint to ensure adhesion and flexibility.

  5. They sound very good......like the vehicle should have sounded from the factory. However, I would not call them loud. You'll notice the difference but doubtful that someone else would not. At wide open throttle, it's definetly louder though. In my opinion, they're just load enough. At normal driving, you won't notice a difference at all. I like them and thought it was WELL worth the price and time to install. Note, my experience is with a Turbo. I would assume a NA would be louder if that's what you have (wasn't sure).

    Take care,

    Matt

  6. Picked up a set of clear markers, is there a reason on the clear that the bulb installs in the rear of the lens now as oppose to the center on the old? Is it to hide the orange bulb?

Yep. I really tip my hat to Porsche for thinking of that. It keeps the lens clear during the day when the bulb's not on. I was considering putting a clear bulb in it anyway to make sure it looked clear (non-yellow) when it wasn't on. But, there was no need. During the day you cannot see the orange bulb at all. And it looks nice when it's on.

  7. Do a Spark Plug search. I found the directions somewhere on this site. It's not too hard. I did it on my 04 TT last month. It's a little time consuming (about 4-5 hours). I would order and replace the ignitors while you're doing the plugs. They're notorious for going bad. I put an UpSolute chip on my car which raised the boost substantially and two weeks later it started to miss fire a little. I was told the replace the ignitors. ALL 8 had large cracks in them and they were only two years old. They cost about the same as the plugs (about $15 from Sunset Porsche). Trust me, you'll be removing them to replace the plugs anyways....just have them there to replace at the same time.

  8. Sorry, I meant that the rims stick out a little more than factory. But, if you're using the same rims, that'll not be an issue. I did a full fit check with the car in the lowest and normal position with no rubbing. I did however hear a tire rub last week when I had the car on the highest (Special Terrain) level when the wheel was turned all of the way in one direction. Not really an issue, just don't crank the wheel all the way to one side or the other when you're in Special Terrain mode. Other than that, after almost a month I've had no issues and love the way the car rides and looks. I highly suggest the 305/35-22 size tires on front and back.

  9. Fulmer,

For that price, I would skip it. I've actally had a couple of electronic gremlins that we think might be linked to the Entry and Drive. So, I would suggest putting that $2k into some nice wheels.

I can't think of any other options that I would highly suggest. I do like the parking assist. But, any Cayenne with whatever option will be a great car. Enjoy!! I know how exciting it is to get a new car.

  10. I ordered and insalled the FabSpeed pipes last month and was very happy with them. Call around and you should be able to get them for around $600. I ordered them through a local shop.

The install is very straight forward except the top bolt on the passenger side. You have to have one perosn use a (approx) 5 foot socket extension to turn the bolt while another person directs the socket onto the bolt and then holds the bolt with another socket. The other five bolts will take you 20 minutes and the last one will take another 20 minutes.

All in all it wasn't a bad job at all. I suggest the upgrade and was impressed with the quality of the pipes.....polished stainless steel. Very nice and great fit.

  11. Hello everyone,

I've ordered a new Cayenne with the Entry and Drive option (as well as a lot of other options).

In Japan, the option costs about $1900 US.

Do you think this is really worth the high cost, or is there some other option that you would recommend instead?

Do you like this feature? Is it useful?

    Thank you for your time

    Fred

I like it. I don't know if I'd pay almost $2k for it. But, I'm really glad my car has it. It's very nice when it's raining or snowing.

  12. I've been able to change and store my desired comfort settings on each of my keys. But, I've been unable to set the comfort setting in BOTH keys and I lose the comfort setting when I use the other key. Meaning, every time I switch keys, I lose my settings. I like to use both since I keep my work keys on one and keep the other free of other keys. Suggestions (other then.."use only one key")

  13. I installed an aftermarket TPMS from Orange Electronics. I love it. The display actually matches the factory dash...silver boarder with a black inner area. Check out the pics. I like the unit because it constantly shows the pressure, or temperature or both (cycle), of all tires all the time. The digits actually turn red when the preset low or high pressure is hit (or high temp).

I had to disassemble the unit and modify the casing to flush mounth the unit. But, it was well worth the effort. It look factory. :D

I used a bolt under the center area for ground and the far left wire in a 5 wire-wire harness that's located directly beneath the TPMS. Be sure to use the far left, not the right. The right one will be on when ACC is on, but will go off when the brake is depressed. It's the signal that tells the shifter that the brake is depressed.
