Just thought I would share. My wife and are are going on a 7 day road trip starting 6/20/11 in the Pcar. The car's getting a fresh oil service Monday, just got the new custom interior installed, new regulator installed, and fresh detail today. We are going without any real plans, going to do alot of hiking, camping, driving without any firmly set destination. We are going West until we run out of time, then coming back.
Our direction will be across Texas, stopping at anything interesting, Tuscon, AZ, Tombstone, AZ, maybe California, Grand Canyon, and Route 66 all the way back to Amarillo (eat at the 72oz steak house), then back down Dallas, Tyler, then back towards the Louisiana border behind the Green Pine curtain in southeast Texas.
Anyone who would like to meet up or share something interesting/worth seeing are more than welcome.
5 states, approx 4K miles, with no time schedule should be fun!!
Hi
Hope you have a great time on tour. The weather in the UK is rainy and windy - not inspiring!
Would you be able to put up any pictures of your car showing the new interior?

Hi
Me again with 996 C2 Man with PCM2
The car has had a new battery and front s/assys and since then the gps is not seeing any satellites, and the clock that takes is time from the gps is not working
Have tried various fixes:
disconnet battery
1-4-8 on sat nav
taken out fuses
left car outside etc
and still no satellites being seen
so thinking that the GPS antenna is bust, - could anything have been damaged when the battery was replaced? To check the antenna is best to start with the PCM2 end or up on the dashboard?
My DIY skills are poor
Any advice - help - suggestions would be great, Have to say that I am on a budget and cant afford dealer prices
Thanks in advance, becoming obsessed with this

Hi
I have 03 996 C2 man with PCM2
Local garage have replaced the battery and since then the clock on the dashboard has stopped working - and also the sat nav thinks its about 100 miles away from where i actually am!
I have tried 1-4-8 on satnav, reset the clock etc. Status on satnav says that no satelites are being seen, is this because i have not reset it properly or could the antenna be bust?
Have disconnected battery and removed the three fuses
Can anyone help please with a definative sequence of actions to i would over the moon
Many thanks in advance

Oh, sorry - you're in the UK. Well those places should ship internationally... but there should be local suppliers there who have competitive pricing.
At least you can look at the links I gave you for alternatives (the tirerack.com link lists other Bilstiens and Konis).
Perhaps someone will chime in with some suppliers in the UK.
Here's an interesting auction you might want to see:
http://cgi.ebay.co.u...N-/150612516422
They are new upgraded struts for a IX74 option. I'm not sure if they would be a direct replacement for the standard kit.
Hi
Many thanks, will check them out.

if you have car outside for 10-15 min and see no satellites then your antenna is likely gone. you can try to take it out and replace yourself (gbp80) or take it do a dealer. there is a chance that if you buy antenna yourself it may turn out that there is more serious problem like the PCM itself so you are 80gbp out of pocket
All sorted, as if by magic!!!
SA321 - many thanks for your help

Hi All
I have read this post, I have followed in the instructions in the diagrams that Loren supplied. How much force is required to get the unit out. I dont want to damage the surround.
I have a 2003 C4S. I get the System Error: Phone, Amplifier, CD Changer not availble, I need to check the wiring at the back or it €2000 to fix. The unit seems to function but I have no audio at all.
Many thanks
John
Hi
Not hijacking your thread, but I need to do the same to see if the aerial plug is still attached to my PCM2, can i feel at the back or do I have to take the unit out?
thanks

dead sat antenna is one possible explanation. clock in 2003 996 is set automatically once nav picks up satellites (there is a TSB about it and how to set it up). if antenna is dead=no satellites=no clock
Hi
SA321 - spot on many thanks.
Have checked the status of the satnav and no satellites are being found.
So whats the next stage, I know I need to take it to a high point, lock the car and leave for 5 - 10 mins but what next? Do I start the car and press 1 4 8 or do i just turn the ignition on or just unlock the the car or what?
If this does not work am I safe to assune the satnav antenna is broken?
Any polite advice would be great, becoming obsessed with this problem
Many thanks in advance

Now sorted
Posted: Sat Oct 09, 2010 9:42 am Post subject: Help needed, problems with satnav and clock Hi
Would be very grateful for any guidance - help with my problem
Have a 2003 (2004 model) 996 C2 man with pcm2 in the UK
When we were on hols in Somerset i set the sat nav to get us home, within a few miles the displays kept on comming up with "off road"
Thought it was just a glitch, took the satnav cd out, left the car for two weeks. Went to check the car last Sunday and its still the same, the car still thinks its in Somerset - according to the map, I can put a destination in and the car calculates it as if its still in Somerset.
Have tried 148 to reset, then I thought i would disconnect the battery, so undid the negative lead and tha alarm went off, put the lead back on and the alarm stopped, by this time I was fed up and thought I will reset the clock and have a drink, reset the clock but now the time does not change.
The clock in the dash is there as well as the one in the Pcm but the the displays do not change!
Any advice would be great, my blood pressure is off the scales with my pride and joy not working
Many thanks

Help 996 C2 drivers window stuck at the top
in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)
Posted
Hi
My 2003 996 C2 coupe o/s/f window has stopped working. Its stuck at the top, does not budge when locking / unlocking the car. I can hear a noise from inside the door when moving the window switch, seems louder when pressing the "up" button - bearing in mind its already up!
Also since I have had the car (3 years) the sat nav has not worked for 80% of the time, its not reading any satellites!
Any ponters/help etc would be great
Kind regards
Jon
