I have a 2003 996 C2 with a rebuilt 2005 3.6 in it. It also comes into the power band at 3200 rpms. I can feel the car start to pull harder and accelerate as it passes 3000 rpms. My Miata is the same way, the power band starts just pass 3000 rpms.

At 38 - 85 911 targa
39 - 86 944
40 - 74 914
44 - 87 924S
45 - 03 996
The 911 targa is a project car.
The 944 was bought for my wife, she loves this car more than her 325i.
The 914 is my autocross / time trial car.
The 924S was bought for my youngest daughter, she needed some money and sold it to my wife. It is now my wife's autocross / time trial car.
The 996 is just freaking awsome, I love this car.

I normally will idle the 996 for about a minute before backing out of the backyard. I pickup the newspaper and close the gate to the backyard which takes a couple more minutes. This all takes about 5 minutes before I hit the road. Once I'm on the highway I keep the rpm's roughly between 3000 and 4200 till the temp reaches 180 degrees.
