  1. I disconnected the plugs and cut the plastic mount off the rear of the housing. reconnected the plug (very tight fit) and wound the light in. Before I did this, the connections would not engage properly and I had all kinds of error codes and light problems. How any engineer could think it is a good idea to use rails to locate a multi pin plug defeats me. I have had no problems at all since making this quick mod...

    I had to do this to both sides of my 2004 Cayenne Turbo.  Before, it would throw errors and have intermittent failing lights, mostly turn signals.  Afterward, not a single problem.  It should not be a tight fit, however.  The short harness allows a fair amount of room to fully seat those connectors before sliding the assembly back in the rails and locking them down.  I agree that the design is lacking!

Has anyone added the factory TPMS back into their cayenne?  I have most of my driver's side taken apart and am waiting for parts so looking for other projects I can do.  It looks like the parts are available on ebay.  It would be a more seemless integration than an aftermarket version.  It put one of those in the boxster but only because it hooked into the new nav head unit.

    Oh how I hate TPMS.  More trouble than benefit, IMO.  Who didn't check their tires monthly anyway?

    And you know this because of your current or former employment with Porsche or a tire manufacturer supplying N rated tires?   Just curious.

    You want only N-rated, fine.  You don't feel you need to pay the premium for N-rated, fine.  And as was previously noted, if your re-shoeing a Cayenne, don't think you're dealing with a GT3.

  4. Mine is broken as well on my 2005 Titanium Metallic / Black interior - silver trim cayenne S. May check LA Dismantler for the part. I have a more pressing issue with the Passenger seat back needing to be reglued  :cursing:

    Had to re-glue mine, too.  Used Gorilla Glue and a brace to press it tight as the glue set.  Just find something that will fit very snugly from the passenger rear seat to the back of the passenger front seat, without damaging the passenger seat, of course!  Worked fine and is holding well now after 6 months.

Good luck.  The link I posted describes the issue with the LCD display.  Whether it's lines dropping or a dimming issue doesn't matter.  Check further.  It's the connection.  Oh, i have an instrument cluster from a 2004 model.  LCD has no issues.  PM me if you want to talk about it.  I've changed my cluster out with zero issues.

  6. Hi Martadon. They say that metal caps are a problem and it looks like they are with some sensors. I suspect it has something to do with their antenna orientation. I always had metal caps. Last year I had to replace the sensors which I did with 1/2 price chinese ones. They work great even with the metal caps on. Go figure. It is good that everyone is warned about the problem. Changing caps is way easier then changing sensors.

    Absolutely. Since the metal valve stems w/metal caps are the transmission antennae of the TPMS sensors, I suspect that removing the metal caps from the aftermarket sensors changed the radio frequency (RF) characteristics of the stems (antennae) so that the aftermarket sensors became more compatible with the receiving end of the business. Just my theory--as an old, 30-year retired USAF radio and radar guy. ;)

  7. So you didn't have to do any re-codeing? I'm about to do similar (04 CS with a euro cluster back to US). Mileage showing correctly? My indy has PST2 from Porsche. Any clues on how to get mileage showing correclty?

    My mechanic @ the dealer said he couldn't code it to my car and then put the old "S" cluster back in. I asked my Service Mgr "Well, did anything work on it?" He didn't know so he had the mechanic put the Turbo cluster BACK into my car and fired it up. It worked perfectly with full functionality! Go figure. Also, if you read a few posts earlier here, you'll see the issue of "RB4" and "RB8" incompatibility. The "S" cluster I took out was "RB4" and the Turbo cluster that went in is "RB8" I have no idea--it just works fine. As for mileage, I sent the Turbo cluster to ODO-PRO.COM in Colorado and they programmed the cluster to reflect my mileage. Thet say they can hit it +/- 300 miles. They did. Eighty bucks, one day turn around.

    Do remember, though, that my car IS a Turbo. I got the car with the "S" cluster installed. I have no idea why or when that occurred. Good Luck!

  8. Well, this applies to all Porsches w/TPMS, I suppose. I had to replace all four TPMS sensors last year (dead battery on 2 of them) and got some aftermarket sensors at less than half OEM cost. Subsequently, my TPMS system would intermittently loose the sensor signal and go into Learning mode on its own. Worked well--didn't work well, randomly. My Porsche mechanic said he never had good experiences with aftermarket TPMS sensors so there was nothing he could do as my TPMS system wasn't at fault. After living with this for months and months I had an idea. I removed the aluminum (I think) stem caps and put cheap, green plastic ones on (N2 filled tires) and tested the TPMS for the past 2 months. Long story short, everything is fine! No intermittent re-learning and the system picks up all four signals even when the car is at rest. So, if anyone has experienced similar anomalies I suggest similar action and see if it works for you.
