I was having this problem (2005 MY) and replaced the battery inside the key. Whether it's coincidental or not that fixed the problem. I'm thinking that the transponder uses some current? Or maybe merely the act of dismantling and reassembling the key to exchange the battery put things right?

I have the 18" Michelin Aplin PA2 snows on my '07 Carrera coupe. I bought them from the Tire Rack in November of '07 with a set of their "Cup" wheels and TPMS sensors. Total cost was $2386.00, including mounting, balancing and shipping to the Chicago area. These are the best snow tires I have ever used on any car I have ever owned. In fract, I think they perform better than the original Continental Contact 2 tires that were OEM on my car (since replaced with Michelin Pilot PS2). I had the N-spec Dunlop snows on my 2000 Boxster S, and I thought they were good until I got the Alpins. I swap them myself every fall and take them off on April 15, income tax day, and I haven't had any problems for the 4 winters I have used them using the factory wheel bolts with no spacers. The TPMS woks fine too with the Beru sensors supplied by the Tire Rack. I don't know about the Pirellis, but I can certainly vouch for the Alpin PA2s-I think they are great. Yes, they make more noise than the PS2s, but snow tires usually do that.

+1 on this setup, I have the same on my 2005 C2S. Nice tires and the "sportcup" rims from Tirerack are fine for the winter use.

My advice would be to step up and get an 06+. The 05's have engine issues and should be avoided. If you must have an 05 make sure it''s a CPO car. Believe me...You don't want to go through the dreaded "engine replacement" on one of these cars "out of pocket".

If you have a CPO warranty and the engine goes it will cost you nothing.

I will never have another P car without a Porsche warranty..

Thanks for the advice Phil. I was originally looking at 996's but after reading about the issues they have I thought an 05 997 would be a better buy. I guess I'll have to go one notch higher and start looking at 06's. I read that some of the 05's have the larger IMS bearing - does this mean they would be just as reliable as an 06? How can one tell if an 05 has one of these engines?

The engines did not get the update until mid 06 model year.

I don't think that's 100% accurate. I opened up my 2005 C2S to do the LN Engineering upgrade only to find that it already had the upgraded IMS from the factory. I think the changeover occurred at some point for MY 2005 cars -- I don't know precisely when. I didn't buy the car new, (I'm the second owner) but it was delivered in May 2005. Safe to say that not ALL 2005 cars should be tossed under the bus.

Good timing -- I have the same issue. Broke off my face while inserting a SIM card. It's a delicate thing. However, my unit is still functional -- the drawer still slides in and out, it just looks a little "off" without the face on it. Thinking about just gluing it on, or simply going without.

+1 on the Dakota Combi. It's a backless booster, fits like a glove, looks good and is only about 35 bucks.
