It was about a 5.5 hour drive. My wife and daughter made it a Saturday trip. A very long day. The dealer was in a northern suburb of Chicago (Motor Werks of Barrington). We went together and followed each other back home. You have a little further to go. A cheap flight would work. if you can find one.

Hi Everyone,
I'm new here, and could really use some advice. I found a 2005 Boxster online on Autotrader that I am in the process of buying from a private seller. I am in TX, the seller in Florida. I am a first time car buyer (used public transport) so I am realizing that I dont know anything about buying a car out of state from a private dealer, much less a Boxster. I have yet to see the car in person. Only pictures.
So far I have:
1. Pulled the carfax (looks good, but I hear they are worthless)
2. Called the bank of the first owner to see if the title was sold to the seller free and clear. Checks out fine.
3. Contacted Mark's Autowerks in Florida regarding a PPI. Should be done this week.
But somehow I feel like I am missing a whole chunk of important steps somewhere in-between. Or am I? I just need reassurance that I am not buying a lemon or setting myself up to be screwed because I was being rash. Any words of wisdom from you lot would sure be appreciated on the formal order of operations for buying a Boxster from a private seller out of state. Thanks in advance.
First, welcome to the site. I'm fairly new myself. Pretty exciting impending purchase. I purchased my 987 out of state; however it was through a porsche dealer. Are you planning on making the trip to finalize. If possible it may be a good idea. Your expectation may vary from someone else. For me it worked out great. The porsche far exceeded my expectation. Good luck on your purchase . keep us updated.

Just bought an 987 base boxster. When I release the clutch on 1st I get a driveline vibration that appears to be uneven clutch action. The car has 9k miles. Maybe this is normal for Porsche. It only happens on slipping the clutch to engagement.
What your describing does not seem normal. just to make a comparison. I have a 987 (2006)base w/6 speed. I experience no vibration what so ever. And the shifting is very precise and smooth. I'm sure you will receive some very helpful leads on your question. I just wanted to give you a comparison that your problem doesn't seem normal.

Check for:
- loose spark plugs
- cracked coil packs
- coil pack electrical connector not snapped into place
The last item is the most likely cause.
I don't mean to be funny, but did you set the gap on the plugs. I only say this because you didn't mention it.

Try to find a silver bulb that illuminates amber. These look best in clear corners. No "egg yolk" effect.
Thanks for the idea. I will look into that bulb. Any quick leads for me on this.
May want to try Hoen. I never bought any of these so I can't give you any recommendations. Some people on a couple of Mercedes forums have used them and like them, especially the Xenon-match bulbs.

I' ve got a couple of bulbs on the way. There silver but emit amber.
Also I noticed that LED's are an option .Any thoughts on going LED.

Are amber bulbs required with clear side markers or can clear bulbs be used. I'm thinking the US. requires
amber. Am I mistaken.

I'm curious. there seems to be a few topics on intermittent problems. Can a durometric tool be set up trend these problems to diagnose a pattern. This tool would be a good addition to our bag of toys either way. Thanks for any imput

B) New to forum. I been browsing for a while and have been impressed with topics and tech info. I'm just slow to take the plunge. I always do my homework first. Well some quick info. I am currently enjoying,
2006 Boxster (2.7) Arctic Silv. Met/ Gray Top and Gray Int.
W/ 6sp sport pack. (No Chrono)
PCM 2.1 NAV.
Pref. pack, Wind Deflect, Bi-Xen Lghts, and more.
And i am big fan of the 3M clear bra. (worth the $)
Lastly I immensely enjoy this car.

Anybody ever get any peeling back of the edges on the clear bra. I'm getting a little of that and end up with wax build up along some edges
I personally have not had any problems. It may fall back on preparation before the film was applied. As far as waxing i'm light on the application and pressure particularly at the edges.

Very nice!!
I was going to get a ride in this past weekend. But bad weather set in. Now I'm sitting in 9 inches of snow. So I'll be daydreaming a few more days until the roads dry up.
Again congrats.
