I really think the white C4S is a spectacular looking car, however those wheels look like they "raised' your car significantly?? WHen I look at the Lambo

and your car there seems to be a significant difference?? Are those wheels 20's??

    Demosan

The wheels look like the 19" 997 Turbo wheels to me.

  2. To add my two cents... I added the XPel (which I think is superior to 3M) clear bra to my car this week and am so far happy even though I do have some stone chips and was worried about how everything would look. I'm getting ready to do a DE and didn't feel like the painter's tape route.

I worked w/ an installer here in Atlanta, who does a lot of work for many of the exotic car dealers here in town. Cost for full bumper, 1/2 fender & hood, and side mirrors ran a little less than $600. The same install at the dealer was quoted at over $1000! Also, if you're thinking of doing this yourself, I would think twice. I watched this guy do it and while I'm pretty sure I could get most of it done properly, the parts around the curves and corners takes some finesse!

  3. Thanks, everyone for the comments. I look forward to learning all I can and hopefully adding a comment or two from time to time. Can't wait to get enrolled in a DE class and learn what a P car can really do!

check out the "official 996 C4S" thread at 6speed, if you haven't already done so. great pics and C4S posts...

Thanks for the 6speed reference. I will definitely check it out. Its amazing how much there is to learn at this point.

  4. I bought a 2003 C4S this week. My first Porsche. Picked up the car last night and took it for a spin after dark. Didn't take long for someone to bow up to me. A new pimped out Mercedes. I guess you get used to that?

I am looking forward to joining the Porsche Owners Club in town (Maverick). I feel like there is a lot to learn about the car besides just flooring it on the freeway on-ramp (which is fun, i am not knocking it!)

My next challenge is to buy a booster seat for the kiddo.

Thanks in advance for all the advice and knowledge sharing here on RennTech.

Welcome to the site. I'm a new owner of an '03 C4S as well. Can't wait to get the car on come great mountain roads her in GA and see how it performs.

  5. great looking car... I enjoy mine as well. I'm stumped on the YF-23, and dont mind asking what you mean. also, consider going to the clear side markers instead of the amber, several good threads on changing over....

and what happened to the headlight question??

One of my pics is in front of a "monument to flight". The aircraft represented are YF-23's, which lost in a head to head competition with the F-22 to take over for F-15's. Don't even know if there are any flying versions around anymore.

Definitely correct on the side markers, have them on order. What type of bulb did you use - amber of clear, LED's?

The headlight question had to do with alignment and the stagger affect of aiming the beams for Bii-Xenon's. My other cars go through a process of self leveling when the lights come on and appear to be balanced. On my P-car, I was told that the self leveling affect takes place when you turn on the ignition and that the driver's side light should be "slightly" lower than the passenger headlight due to oncoming traffic.

  6. Thanks for the comments! Nice catch on the YF-23 - the eventual loser to the F-22 in the head to head competition. That pic was taken at the entrance to the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson. Its located next to the plane graveyard @ Davis Monthan AFB. Pretty cool old warbirds in there, including the SR-71, a couple of Buffs and several neat fighters...

Still haven't seen my old plane, RC-135 :notworthy: , on display yet.

  7. Greetings everyone! I've been lurking around the board for a little over a year now as I've waded through the tons of information out there on 996's. IMS, RMS, oil changes, tire size...you name it. About 2 weeks ago, I finally pulled the rip cord and purchased a 2003 996 C4S in arctic silver w/ boxster red interior and only ~20,000 miles on the clock.

Took delivery in sunny California and proceeded to drive cross country home to Georgia. Truly outstanding trip. I've included a couple of pics from the road and here in ATL.

Sorry on the headlight question. Problem solved!

  8. What year car? I did mine last fall on a 2001 996 3.4. The job entailed removing the tranny etc and also locking the cams at TDC. I did not replace the clutch as it was a year and 2,00 miles old, I did the LNE upgrade. Parts $650 for the kit, $85 for the tranny bushing and labor totaled $2k with a tranny flush and refill, oil change and tranny suport bushing replacement. If the mechanic has done these before, it should take 4 hrs at best to do the upgrade, clutch, tranny in and out, about 8 hrs. total should be 12 hours.

$3K seems a bit high but not for a dealer.

With the tranny out, have then check the bearing for excess radial and axial play. At 23 K miles I would think the bearing should bo OK, mine had 94,500 miles and lots of play.

    Good luck.

I have an '03 C4S w/ ~22,000 miles on the clock and I was quoted "Total price for the IMS Retrofit procedure which also includes a new rear main seal, clutch and pressure plate is $3900 for 4wd cars."

I think non AWD P Cars are cheaper.
