  1. I did this upgrade a couple of years ago and had to purchase the DVD drive for below the passenger seat in addition to the newer PCM. (Both out of 2006 Cayenne) The biggest problem was finding the cable to supply power to the DVD player. I believe I ended up with a Porsche cable for adding Satellite radio to the PCM which had the same connections as the DVD drive. (Part # 95504490066 I believe) I went to numerous dealers and no one could identify the cable in any of the electrical schematics. You also need the mounting bracket for the DVD drive, but it just snaps into place below the seat. (Replaces the drawer below the pass seat.) And the antenna needs to have a jumper so that it will reach the DVD drive below the seat.

I added the Denison 500 at the same time but have been unable to get the tracks to show up on the PCM. I did have someone program everything at the dealer to ensure everything was recognized in the BOSE loop in the correct order.

  2. I'm getting ready to switch out my PCM 2.0, it is the CD version. Before I post on eBay I figured I would offer it to someone here. No issues with it, I am just upgrading to different head unit. It is still installed, it has the most updated CD's. I really don't know how much to ask for, the ones on eBay sell for $1500, but I can't imagine it really being worth that.

    Thanks

I forgot to mention that it will come with NAVTV Ipod adapter where you can control your Ipod from the head unit.

Are you installing a PCM 2.1 or aftermarket? I'm looking at upgrading to the 2.1 with the DVD navigation drive.

  3. Hello,

I'm new to the board and so far love it! You guys have some great input!

Anyway I just picked up a 2004 Cayenne Turbo and the navigation isn't working. I have the Porsche nav DVD in the head unit and when I go to enter a destination it says "route guidance not active" so then I go to NAVI settings and try to check the "active" check box and it does for a brief second but then un-checks itself.

    Things I done...

Checked to make sure it's the right disc and as far as I can tell it is. It says North America Map Disc or something like that. It has the DVD logo on it where as the second Porsche disc is only a CD. Neither of the discs work.

Checked to make sure the actual GPS locator works and it does, under the INFO button I show 10 satellites tracking me in 3D and it gives current long and lat readings. I also get correct elevation readings.

Checked to make sure map disc isn't scratched or damaged and to the eye the disc looks very clean.

I looked under the passenger side seat for the DVD player that is mentioned in the manual but all that is there is a slide out fire extinguisher.

I'm running out of ideas here guys, please help.

Thanks for your time in advance!

The 2004 Cayenne has a PCM 2.0 based system and used a CD in the head unit. 2005/06 and later use the 2.1 PCM head units and access a DVD drive below the passenger seat. Hope that helps.

  4. You need a navigation DVD drive to enable the navigation option , the PCM only reads audio CD's it doesn't read the navigation DVD. You will need a navigation DVD drive plus the Map DVD and a GPS antennae to get the navigation system operational on your PCM. You will also probably need a new MOST fibre optic cable to add the new DVD drive to the loop. The navigation DVD drive only plays navigation DVD's it wont play video DVD's or music. Depending on what coding was in the PCM before it was removed from its original vehicle , will determine if you need a porsche dealer to recode the PCM to accept the navigation DVD drive. If you press main and trip buttons you get a menu page. If navigation is listed as a module in the list then its already coded on the PCM and you only need connect the hardware to get it working. The GPS antennae connects to the navigation DVD drive , not the PCM.

Regarding bluetooth etc, you need a nav tv, dension, or mobridge unit to allow this function to be added. The devices need the CD changer enabled on the PCM ( look at the menu displayed with main and trip to see if a CD changer is coded) to communicate with the PCM.

Before you buy a navigation DVD drive you need to check that its hardware is compatable with your PCM. You can do this by looking at your PCM part number and the chassis range that it is associated with on hte PET parts catalogue. Then get a nav DVD drive that has a part number associated with the same chassis range as the PCM. If you get an older nav drive or one intended for a Gt3 or carrera 4 it may not work properly.

I am in the process of also updating my 2004 Cayenne which has CD based Navigation with a 2006 PCM and DVD Drive unit. I'm having a heck of a time determining which cables I need between the PCM and DVD Drive. I believe they are: 955-622-313-00 Optical Cable, 955-647-207-00 Coax Conn, 955-647-208-00 Connecting Cable. If the GPS antenna connects to the DVD Drive, if I disconnect it from my old PCM is there enough cable to re-route it to the DVD Drive below the seat. Sure hope someone can help with these questions. THanks in advance.
